Review of Arena Gladiator costume

I saved up 50 Gladiator Proofs, and redeemed them for the Arena Gladiator costume. I am going to divide this review into both Pros and Cons.

Pros:
1) Very good trend from Zos, releasing a costume you can obtain without Crowns
2) Looks amazing on female characters, no barrel chest, yay!
3) Detailed, fabric moves when you move, not static, very nice and fluid.
4) 50 Proofs is fair for the quality of the costume
5) You can either sell it or use it, it is in a Runebox you can sell/trade.
6) Feeling of accomplishment from obtaining 50 Proofs/tangible reward
7) Any new PVP content is welcome, this is a nice reward to work for.
8) Thighs look very nice

Cons:
1) It dyes very poorly. The images I have are of the default colors, I preferred their look to the look of it dyed. Sad it looks bad dyed.
2) The matching Arena Helmet for 20 Proofs looks odd combined with it.
3) It looks like a mix of the Elven Hero costume, Nord Hero Costume, and Minotaur Armor.
4) Some may see the 50 Proofs needed as a grind; I personally don't mind but others may.
5) Leather straps with little to no detail

Overall: If this costume allowed for more vivid dye to be applied, it would be knocked out of the park. I love it, even in its undyed form. I sincerely hope Zos continues giving us obtainable costumes without Crowns that look quality and give us a sense of achievement.

What blew my mind is when I tried dying the red fabric with the Red dye from Emperor achievement, it turned almost brown! I was hoping it would have been a brighter more intense red but sadly no. Luckily the default red looks pretty vibrant. Coldharbour Black looked faded and almost grey. I don't have Legate's Black yet so I couldn't test that color. The metal bits looked ok dyed Aylied Gold, but I ended up keeping the default color.

Literally what the heck is going through their heads when they do this? Are they not getting the overwhelming feedback that the dye system is important and that we want the colors as advertised?

As an achievement hunter, it kind of takes the wind out of my sails for unlocking new dyes...when we only have about 65% or so costumes/armor that clearly shows off the color. So many don't take color, or have undyable bits...dyes need some attention for sure.

I wish they didnt lock these costumes behind the quest. I have to buy it bc I dont have any pvp quest bc of a bug from back in beta. Asked for it to be fixed over and over and apparently I'm one of the few that have this issue.

Other then that I think it's a cool costume and look forward to buying it from my friends.

The response I get is "we cant reset daily quest you must wait 24hrs." I respond with I want them to exist not reset. I get no answer at all, worst part is with out these quest getting EMP is very hard bc the huge leap every one else gets in AP.

Have you tried taking a new character through the initial PVP tutorial quests (the munitions delivery, the siege target practice, etc.) up to the point where it unlocks the dailies boards? If you go straight to the boards you won't be able to interact with them.

If so, this may be a case where you need to video-document what's happening for support to be more helpful. It may not be a bug in the sense of what they've been trained to diagnose as a bug.

I asked both of my trading guilds, was informed there were none on the market in NA and like 2 on EU and some forum post I guess estimated it around 2 Million. I decided to use it, but I will totally save up 50 more and sell it in the future!

Here is it on my characters. The steel part dyes well, but others don't. The red on my orc is the original color, purple on my altmer is the contraband violet. I love the costume, but some parts of it would need more details.

In PVP you have what is called the Conquest Mission Board, when you complete the quest it gives you, you get the gladiator proof from the box the reward comes in. When you get 20 or 50 you go to the NPC called the War Researcher and buy the item for 10k AP that creates the runebox with the costume or hat in it.

I guess I'm the 'odd man out' (so to speak) because I really don't like the armor at all (although, I must say it looks kinda nice on the muscular male orc in @Balastar picture).

As a side note: you can make a close proximity to this with the motifs we already have in the game (you'd have to mix a few motif styles together).

Any new character has the quest it's only my main that was made during early access that is locked out from quest. I went to pvp at lvl 10 picked up the quest then didnt want to be in pvp so I left. After I left pvp I abandoned them to make room for pve quest. After the PC to xb transfer I went back to pvp and there was no quest at all. I do everything on my main with 27k achievement points. Would love to get emp and stuff but it seems there is no way to fix the issue.

I could just farm them on another character but I'm close to 5 star pvp rank and I would really like to get everything done on this one character.

Sorry to hijack OP post just really annoying when they release stuff I want like this costume and I cant farm it myself.

But ZOS doesn't care, I guess.

I suspect they DO care, but there may be little they can do.
All costumes we have in the game include a piece of digital artwork (the part we see ... it's the 'skin' that covers the mesh). The process to create realistic-looking 'production quality' digital art (i.e., not 'flat' or cartoonish looking) is complex, and part of that complexity effects us 'in-game' when we try to dye our costumes.

Why your dye station color looks different on different costumes:

I could probably write a 10-15 page detailed explanation as to why your chosen dye station color looks different when applied to different costumes .... LOL!!! I said that I could, not that I would!!! For the sake of brevity, I will try to keep this short and simple.

As you read this, it's important to keep in mind is that color used by digital artists can range from being fairly transparent (light shines through) to opaque (light doesn't shine through) ... digital artists need this variance to create various effects.

Achieving realistic 'production-quality' digital artwork is an involved process. Creating the artwork (including the coloring) is typically done in pieces through multiple overlapping (digital) layer sets. In addition to using a layer for the base color of the costume (costume part) there are also many other over-lapping layers with various colors used to achieve effects (i.e., metallic effect, other types of textures, shading, lighting, shine, dullness, patterns, etc.). Sometimes the most bottom layer will have the main color for the costume part, with adjustments for shading, lighting or other effects made on the upper overlapping layers, but, sometimes the layer with the main color of the costume part will be near the top and will be fairly translucent (and the effects will be on the bottom layers). Changing the order of these layers gives different results. Changing the translucency or opaqueness of a given color will also change the results.

    Dye Station
When we dye something, we, in effect, are adding a color layer on top of our costume. The colors in our dye stations have to be somewhat translucent so that various textures, shading, and effects on the main costume can show through (if this were not the case then dying something would result in it looking flat and cartoonish).

So, why do some things color well at the dye station but not others?
It depends on the amount of translucency or opaqueness of the colors and effects used in the base costume design, and to a lesser degree, the amount of translucency or opaqueness in the particular dye we use from the dye station. Our computer monitors are 'light based' .... they emit light - this makes translucent colors blend (like yellow and blue = green). Light shining through a translucent color makes it appear 'colorful' (i.e., not dull or muted).

Placing a 'translucent color' over a more 'opaque color' will usually not change the opaque color, or only slightly change it (depending on how much light the more opaque color is blocking).
