BGs are very fast, just play the game mode you enjoy the most/ are the best at and you will have it unlocked pretty quickly.

I like Cyrodiil if you have a fast horse. You'll want to join a group and either spam heals (magicka) or tag as many enemy players as you can with your bow (stamina). You'll need to ride to keeps under attack, so having a fast horse is good, otherwise it'll be slower.

Battlegrounds is fun if you like small group, fast paced PVP. You'll get AP even if your team loses.

noob questions:
1. how do u tag with a bow?
2. is there a difference between cyrodil and imperial city other than location?
3. i have a slow horse...with that in mind, would BG gain AP faster for me than Cyrodil (or imperial city if there's no difference)?

This is probably the easiest and simplest means for someone who doesn’t PvP much.

1. Apply a poison arrow to as many targets as you can, or any other DoT for that matter as you can
2. There is, Cyrodiil has a higher probability to even meet other players and to gain AP at all. It's a lot more challenging going around in the IC because of the NPC who make you keep your guard down.
3. Defending keeps is easier than BG's most of the time. If you regularely check the map for activity and teleport in time, you have great potential for gaining AP and advance the skill line much faster.

A slow horse in Cyrodiil means you'll spend way too much time riding it, I think you're better off in BGs (Imperial City is useful to gather Telvar, I don't think it's effective as a means to get APs).

1. Do damage with a bow. Poison Arrow or simply light attacks will work if you are zerg surfing. You get AP for the enemies you help kill, so the idea is to damage as many enemies as you can. The bow's range is pretty good for that. (For magicka, you get extra AP from healing, plus its easier to stay alive.)

2. Imperial City has much less players and is oriented towards small group/solo PVP mixed in with a bunch of PVE mobs. Your AP gains are going to come from flipping district flags and killing enemy players. Generally speaking, I'd expect it to be easier to make AP in Cyrodiil as there are a lot more sources of AP.

3. With a slow horse in Cyrodiil, you'd have to focus on defending keeps. That means keeping an eye on zone chat for callouts about which keeps will be under attack and porting there quickly so you can be in position. You can make good AP that way, but its definitely slower than being able to ride around attackig and defending keeps and resources. If you just want to be able to jump straight into PVP and make some AP win or lose, I'd say that Battlegrounds in a good choice. However, in Battlegrounds you don't have the option to hide amongst more experienced players, the way you can if you zerg-surf in Cyrodiil.

No. Other than Midyear Mayhem, you can get the Cyrodiil delve boss boost to AP but that's the only other thing I'm aware of.

nope, XP boosters are for eXPerience, and AP stands for Alliance Points, and to my knowledge they're only boosted for PvP-specific events like Midyear Mayhem.

Battlegrounds. Hands down, the fastest way to get it. Capture the flag is the easiest. Just stand and shoot anyone not on your team. Pretty easy and you'll rack up the AP in no time.

It took me 3 hours to get Vigor. Another hour and I would have had Caltrops, but I had to leave. Never saw the need to go back and get it since making changes to my armor/weapons/skills.

A really great way to get a ton of AP with a bow is to lay down Endless hail during a keep siege at a breach. This works for most AOE ground target abilities. Lay them down at a breach and watch enemies and your AP go up. (This won't work if you are the only person defending the breach though...)

Oh, and why was time reduced. Was it a balance point to reduce the use by increasing the number of casts required to refresh the Cattrap field at keeps and breaches? Sorry if I seem confusing, I was bitten by an Argonian at BRK so I am mentally debuffed; Overload of Uni curriculum does not help either.

Caltrops duration was dropped to bring in more in line with other stamina DOTs like Endless Hail. Basically ZOS realized that every PVE stam DPS was using it in their rotation and decided it needed to be changed to fit with other similar DOTs.

I think most Stam DD builds use caltrops in PVE.

Head to Cyrodil and get some Gate and Wall repair kits. Fix broken gates and walls in a keep defend group.

I've gone for caltrops twice. Both times on bowbow chars. Rode with a group capturing keeps and resources. The first time, my char has 60 in horse speed and all went well. The next char took advantage of a Cyrodiil AP boost event and did it much younger - her horse was only at 8 in speed. The difference was big. She missed out on many resource captures because she would not arrive until the resource was already captured. Fortunately, keeps take much longer and, though she'd arrive well behind her group, she got to participate in most of the captures (and subsequent repairs). Unless there is compelling reason, I'd avoid trying to group in Cyrodiil to run captures without 60 on your horse.

That said, my characters were not only bowbow, they were pure pve (no impen etc). They simply used the group for defense and earned their keep with potent snipes and strafes from the middle of the group. If a group mate was engaged, she could very often turn the tide by killing their foe with her great ranged burst. On the other hand, on those occasions when a real pvp player caught her alone, she died almost instantly. Still, her kills equaled her deaths.
