I want to be able to collect planks

Sooo I need some planks in order to build a walkway in my ESO house grounds and tbh I can't be bothered to track down the merchant who sells these.

However..

I see loads of random building materials just being left to rot all over Tamriel!
Wouldn't it be awesome if we could harvest/collect these for use in our houses? It would be a bit like virtual skip diving...

Please implement this asap.. it could revolutionise the way players consume housing in the game...

UESP has a page that has all the furniture vendors in the game and what they sell.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

^^^ well I guess you could do it that way.. but is it fun??

    No...

Collecting random bits of plank and boards etc is interesting and fun...

The game is supposed to be fun..

The game you want to play is Fallout 4 with its scrapping mechanics for settlement building.

I would rather have fun picking Alchemy ingredients that sell for hundreds of gold and go buy the planks.

It’s the only way atm and it’s considerable work to decide and redesign aspects of the world to make them lootable furnishings.

Not suggesting you have a bad idea. Just that it’s unlikely due to the work it will require vs the reward it would provide.

Yes but we pay for the work it requires when we buy Crown crates..

Yeah, that's the crucial flaw of most of these "ZOS I have a great idea but you have to redesign how the entire gameworld works to make it work!" type ideas.

There has to be money in it for ZOS. Given that Housing was a free update, there's no money in this for ZOS.

Y’all do realize that weapons in racks weren’t always lootable either until they made the change...this isn’t redesigning Cyrodiil level changes

    Of course there is...
Introducing new features keeps the game alive and encourages more people to purchase housing etc...

I mean, how tired are you of searching crates and baskets for provisioning items that you already have thousands of?

What could possibly inspire you to go trekking halfway across the Alik'r Desert when you have already completed the quests and can fast port to all the necessary locations?? hmmm?

Housing was a huge free update but it is now stagnating.. being able to loot building materials would inject some life into this aspect of ESO, maybe the lootable items could also change every week to compliment those sold at the Luxury Furnisher??

Can you imagine having to trek far across some far flung and under populated part of the map just to get that perfect lamp base/cushion in an exotic colour/ornament/ even a different coloured candle flame???

    It would be awesome!!

You do realize we're talking about the ZOS devs, right?

If Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset are any indication, the drop rate on this looted furnishings will be super low and extremely grindy, all the better to fuel sales of those items in the crown store.

But I think I've been pessimistic enough for this thread. Have fun dreaming.
