Well, first of all, what a refreshing change, a dev posting here on the forums... So my number one advice is to keep a presence here on the forums in the future too. It's an important part of the job, and keeping the natives from getting restless is a really good idea.

My second is for you to keep an eye out for pointless grind. We do not need that anymore in this game. What we want are things to fiddle with. Systems that have blocks you can reconfigure and play with. I do not want to spend my play time gathering materials, preparing to do fun things instead of doing those fun things, and collecting gazillion bits of arbitrary junk before I can do something that is actually interesting. I want spend my time fiddling with things to create and combine stuff, and come up with new ways of using the bits and bops you provide within the game.

I understand that player retention is one of the primary driving goals of MMO design, but trying to accomplish that with hoops you need to jump through, will just lead to frustrated and angry players ready to jump ship the moment something better comes along. Providing people with interactive systems they can fiddle and play with for hours upon hours, will lead to players so engrossed in your game that they wont even bother to look for better alternatives.

Oh, and finally invest more time and effort in making better class balance. That'd be third.

@ZOS_RobGarrett: Hello, I am a returning player that participated in Beta before launch. Welcome to your ESO dev team.
I just wanted to put my two cents in. First let me say I took a year-and-a-half hiatus from ESO, because there were more interesting games for me out there. I returned when my new best friend started playing for the first time recently.

I have been reading the general forum and I see one common complaint repeatedly, and have experienced these problems myself. You say you are on the gameplay team, and I think this is right up your alley. It is purely in Cyrodiil, PvP. You need only to read some threads about the complaints to verify. People are complaining heavily about they get ganked in Cyrodiil after they have collected many TelVar stones and can't get back to bank them before they get ganked by either solo gankers or Zergs (hoards). They say they don't like what the flags have done to the districts, and the age-old complaint: server lag - ONLY IN CYRODIIL. I have not participated in these discussions, I am merely pointing them out.

My complaint would be regarding PvE: most of the combat seems "samey." The exception being certain bosses that have particular things you need to do to defeat them, such as the ones with the floating "balls" that you need to destroy, or particular kill order. One thing I would like to see is more difference with the different types of damages, to the bots, such as more bots highly resistant to certain types of damage such as: fire, shock, frost, physical, or magic ability damage. So you would need to adjust your attack methods depending on the target. The way it stands now, you merely just keep doing the exact same attack rotation with the exact same weapons through the entire area, with only the (few) aforementioned exceptions. This causes boredom & burnout over time.

Now that I have mentioned it, there is one damage type that doesn't seem to work well: ice/frost, particularly on undead. So this mechanic seems to work a little. The problem is: there is no balancing to the others and as a result: ice/frost has disadvantage, and fire/shock work much better, you only need to permanently switch to one or the other and you are all set. What about making some creatures more susceptible to just physical damage? Magic-resistant creatures? Yes, Sorcs would hate that, but you could counter that with things that are more susceptible to their damage, and Sorcs could carry physical weapons too. In other words, put a little more variety into the weapons needed.

And another thing bugging the game ever since launch: I read on the forums that there are still bots farming mats in the game (presumably for real-life money), particularly in what used to be the low-level areas such as Kenarthi's Roost & Bal Foyen. However, I haven't actually seen them myself since I have returned to the game a couple of weeks ago.

BTW, my biggest gripe with the game was: too much inventory management. There is just too many different things in the game. And then they keep adding new stuff. I don't believe that more complexity makes the game more fun, actually adds to tedium. When I quit, I went to play much simpler games, those that don't require all sorts of lookup tables, checksheets (too many recipes), and references. Anyway, I may be back for another year, not counting a break for Fallout 76 though.

Well I hope you can make a positive difference. Good luck to you.

Hi & Welcome! I'm looking forward to your input! If I could make one request, it would be to look at which roles are not fulfilled by some classes in the tough stuff. This could be seen by checking (for example) how many DK healers queued for and completed vBF. In a perfectly balanced world, it would be about 20% and whilst I know perfect balance will never happen, it should be something that is strived for. I believe there are some issues regarding some classes in some roles. I don't recall last time I saw a non DK/Warden tank, or a non Templar/Warden healing in vPUG finder :( This is making the game somewhat less interesting than it could be, and is forcing some players into roles they do not want to play (because they have fallen in love with their toon, but have now discovered it's not viable/desired in vtrial content.)

the game needs a more hard lined role distinction and less homogenization

Less focus on DPS meta more focus on Utility, PVE CC , healing , and tanking skills right now combat is DPS with secondary effects .

the scaling of Tam one needs adjustments

And you need to remove the CP system gut it and rebuild it, at this point in development your AA system should have a few layers. ive not seen a dev team leave there AA system like this especially when your trying a linear progression system. there is a vertical progression system it's just hidden behind traits in gear and RNG.

and can we for the love of jesus please stop balancing the game based on Duel/small group based PVP

Rob any comment on broken xbox chat, would think that would be pretty high up in the list for console. Been ignored for almost a year.

What did people expect to happen when everyone was jumping down his throat? Devs are humans too. No way I'd subject myself to such verbal abuse.

Greeting :) i would like to share an idea to increase the performance. please replace the auto generated models and textures, shaders, to a hand made ones. (include that method in every DLC or expansion) And please invest to the game bug fixes too. Also invest into the server upgrade. Also please invest for a stable game engine.

Welcome to Tamriel, Bugriel, Lagriel Rob :)

PS: i wish you a very happy christmas :)

Really, what does ZoS expect, consoles are in a *** poor place right now and they do not even acknowledge it, at this point it is more than insulting. So yeah, the console player base is up in arms, surprise surprise, not really. Also, pretty sure people tossing insults was not Rob's reason for leaving.

Yeah would have to agree. Consoles are in such a bad state, even brought a new pc to get access to sone real MMO's that have a better understanding of class balance, server performance, unique and engaging content.
Maybe then, people may stick around for more than three months and not be a frustrated with the game.

It's stupid that people are jumping down his throat already. We haven't even seen any of the changes that this guy was hired to do yet and we won't until Update 21.
Yes, I'm sure he's very aware the current state of the game is in a very bad place right now and needs to be cleaned up and fixed and balanced. Hopefully we get a good amount of those positive changes. But in the mean time, we all need to be patient and see what happens.
