Placing a bounty? OK or Not OK?

Say there's a player who's been annoying to you. Is it okay and NOT griefing to place a bounty on that character?

Or is it griefing in some way, even though they can only be slain in Cyrodiil, where PVP is ok?

(Dear mods; I read the TOC and see nothing against! That said, if I've broken some unwritten rule, apologies in advance and feel free to close!)

I voted that it was OK to place a bounty because I may have been attacked or harassed in game, or I think it would be funny to be alllowed to place bounties on very strong/well known players for the lols.

I'd say it's ok to an extent. If it continues for days then weeks and possibly months, then it may qualify as harassment eventually. It's a bit of a grey area. If you offer a bounty for the next kill or for just that evening, I don't see a problem with it.

    @redspecter23
Yeah maybe there should be a weekly limit on bounties upon one person/character or something?

Like one kill of x per week, and if there already is an outstanding bounty, you cannot place another until that one is fulfilled or a week's time - whichever is longer.

So you could have multiple in place, providing they weren't fulfilled; but if one gets fulfilled, then the rest after the first are lost funds, and there's a week long CD for the next.

I think only the best bounty hunter should profit, and the rest should just lose their gold.

For my purposes: post in guild/friends/zone: offering 100k for screenshot of kill on x character.

    Get screenshot, pay gold.

None of it would be game endorsed or supported.

It would all be on a player to player basis!

Oh, you meant an automated system of some sort? I'm not sure if ZOS would want to go ahead with that. I was assuming you meant me just typing in zone "Kill "xXxUrMumxXx" and send me a screen shot for 1 million gold!" or just talking among my guildmates and putting a bounty on someone.

And just like EVE, I hope you realize posting an open bounty on someone else will result in the target setting up a kill with a friend, and splitting the gold.

Great way to pay your enemies.

No. OP is speaking of a personal system. Not an in game system. Certainly not something Zos would consider as described.

Trying to figure out what OP does to get harassed. In PvE or PvP I have never been harassed. Yes, I have gotten hate whispers after killing a noob but I ignore them and they move on.

Not worth voting but I doubt this would be considered griefing since who would care or even know of some petty action. People die in Cyrodiil all the time. They would not even know it was due to someone placing a little county on them. Seems pointless.

I wish there was a bounty system in the game where someone hires someone to kill someone else.

But heres the twist, if the person who accepts the bounty is killed by the person the bounty is on, the person who has the bounty on them collects the gold and a new bounty has to be put out. Of course if the bounty hunter is successful, they get paid.

Just think that might be a cool feature /shrug

I don't think it's against the rules, but I do think it's ridiculous. If someone's annoying you that much kill them yourself. If you can't then...that's probably what's annoying you. Practice and kill them later.

    But then I read this:
And just like EVE, I hope you realize posting an open bounty on someone else will result in the target setting up a kill with a friend, and splitting the gold.

Great way to pay your enemies.

Now I like the idea. Could be a great way to make money from idiots.

There are bounties all the time. Bounties however, are not always of physical nature as in being valued in gold. Very often, a bounty is the satisfaction of gaining your revenge and in the case of certain people, they must achieve this revenge by opening a hunt, for they are not capable alone.

I don't ;-) but it would be fun anyway! In all of my time since beta, playing over 2 servers, I've made one 'enemy' and I frankly still believe it was down to a misunderstanding.

So nah, I just think it would be fun!

I'd be more liable to place bounties on friends than randos who farted the wrong way!

Consider that Fallout 76 is being developed with countermeasure to prevent this kind of thing. There’s a reason for that - it ruins someone else’s game and is very much a form of harassment.

My hot take : in principle there's nothing wrong with putting out a simple bounty on someone, but in practice I can easily see it leading to a breach of ToS if you're not careful. If it gets into harassment territory with non-PvP actions, or if you're paying people in that person's faction to report on their movements, etc., then my bet is it's gone too far. Keep it simple and in a spirit consistent with the community guidelines and I can't see it going wrong.

I use Kill on Sight because I wanna Kill certain people personally. I wouldn’t go to the trouble of placing a bounty on someone. The system already has revenge and avenge notifications so I can’t really see how ZOS could oppose bounties.

    THIS!

This is the one way it would concern me; is when it leads to annoyance outside of PVP.

Of course for the purposes of this poll, I am talking strictly kills. Not harassment outside that.

I prefer the black sacrament then bounty.
So you can preform a black sacrament on a target, with huge payload like 100M (we are talking about assassination here so the cost is high) and all, and other player can choose to accept this writ and go out and try to kill the target.
But the catch is if the prey (target) outlasted the hunter (assassin), not only the hunter will most likely got killed and lost the pay, the prey can get the writ and see who try to get them assassinated, and they will get a quest to execute revenge on the requestor.
So, it is a double edged sword. You can cause grief but can also ends up of you being under the crosshairs.
