Why is there a difference between sprint toggle, gamepad mode vs keyboard mode?

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to ESO but one issue I just can't understand.
1. In keyboard mode you have to hold the sprint button to sprint. There's no toggle like in skyrim.
2. In gamepad mode you press the sprint button once on your controller and you can sprint until your stamina is gone. It's a toggle.
3. Even if you use mouse and keyboard while in gamepad mode you have a toggle on your keyboard, your sprint button.

So why is this mechanic part of the game? Or am I overseeing something?
Thx in advance!

My guess is that this is likely an oversight from earlier mechanics in the game or intended as controllers and keyboards have different accessibility adjustments they need. Let me explain.

Clicking in the thumbstick and holding it puts a lot of strain on your thumb, and makes it more difficult to do things like strafe or keep sprinting for a prolonged time. With a keyboard, however, it just takes a pinkie, and gives more control over when sprinting is started and stopped. Controllers don't have that just because it's an accessibility issue, and historically games with sprint have had controllers work that way because of those specific issues.

Another result of this is that a keyboard can allow more sprint options, or at least there were other sprint options before there was controller support on PC. For example, when I was playing ESO in the early days of PC before console released, there was a mechanic where you could either sprint normally, or tap the sprint button to drain stamina faster but also sprint faster. The other detriment to this was that you stopped sprinting entirely when your stamina ran out, rather than being able to continue sprinting on your mount and just be knocked off immediately when you got hit. I'm not sure if this mechanic still exists in the game.

The point is, the game has changed a lot over the years, and this was probably just an overlooked part, partly because it's not that important and partly because it's fine as is, I think.

There is a button toggle for sprinting; I don't know what it is, but a gaming mouse I bought had a sprint button. It's a life saver.

I suspect you can't find it through the keybind function due to a bug. I would file a ticket.

Don't forget there are several things that have no default key binding. Such as UI toggle (for taking screenshots).

I haven't looked, but sprint toggle may be in there just waiting for you to decide what key it should be.

This is one of few frustrating thing about ESO.

I play on gamepad on PC and i feel gamepad user are disadvantage when using sprint because we have to press it again if we move left and then right vice versa cause once you move left after making a right you lose sprint and have to press the sprint button again. It's so maddening frustrating to me compared to keyboard because I am not able to efficiently dodge and move away from aim sight during PVP.

Gamepad should be able to just hold the sprint button rather than pressing and depressing it!! Ugh.. another *** choice by ZOS i hope gets fixed soon!
