Mag Sorc: Altmer or Dunmer?

Been a Dunmer for 4 years now (even though I had the Any Race, Any Alliance bundle at launch...really should have just picked an EP Altmer).

Now that race change is available, do you think it would be worth the money to change races for the passives?

I personally don't think the difference is that important for you to pay ZoS on this one. The bonus stamina doesn't hurt you as a Dunmer in pvp and you get a nice juicy fire resist that altmer doesn't get. You're probably a vampire like everyone else as well so you're not hurting for regen. I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I don't mind paying, because I got paid this week and have no expenses to take care of for the moment.

It's just a matter of if I'll get more out of Altmer than Dunmer, really

I'd say it really just depends what you want out of the character. Dunmer offers you a tougher platform with very similar dps but Altmer provides better regen and -slightly- better damage output at a resiliency loss. Bear in mind Dunmer bonus fire damage does help a lot if you're using fire staff a lot. I'd really say it depends on what you're doing. Its a toss up and that's why I'm saying if you like being Dunmer I'd stick with it.

Does the fire resistance help? Last I check it was only about a 3%~ difference in damage received, but that info was somewhat old

It actually depends on how much spell resist you already have, I guess. Either way the stamina (which I agree with you is more useful) is nice for rolling/blocking/etc.

For a dps pet/daedric summoner build, or a healer an altmer would be more effective, if the intent is to make a dps without pets then dunmer with fire staffs is more effective.

For PVE - High Elf, there is just nothing to discuss.
For PVP - HE or Breton.

    Breton,

For when you pug a norm/vet dungeon and have to tank the boss, heal yourself, and do 90% of the group DPS at once. No tank no heals no problem.

I have some characters, play the game and do stuff. It's fun sometimes.

If you are running fire staves stick with Dunmer. Even if not, most of us are not really trying to push top dps so the difference is marginal.

This comment suprises me. You have often said being a vampire is required to min/max. The answer to OP's question is no less different for someone so keen on min/maxing.

Tried both. Still prefer dunmer for pvp (i find more useful that extra stam instead of mag recovery, but it depends on build). For PVE high elf for petbuild and dunmer for no pet

I think that the real question here is: pet or no pet? In the first case, a High Elf is the best option; otherwise a Breton does perfectly the job.

I have both a Dunmer and an Altmer magsorc.
Usually the Altmer pulls a tiny more DPS (like 1k) but at the moment if you go fire/fire staff + BSW, Dunmer is BiS.

ZOS officially stated that high elves were the most popular race. I think it's obvious which alliance is the most overpopulated.
