Why do so many people play PvP in ESO?

Why do people play PvP in ESO or in MMOs in general? The only game I have which focuses on PvP is probably overwatch lol

*Edit: I am not saying PvP is bad or you have to choose between PvP and PvE! Some people think I am trying to hate on this but I'm just curious why people play PvP in ESO or MMOs in general*

You have to understand, you're taking the same stance and mindset as the people who do consider you a filthy casual. Both sides refuse to accept that people are individuals and can have different interests. That's what this entire thread is predicated on, right? Asking why people enjoy something you don't?

PvE can be challenging. Not taking anything away from that. But even at its hardest, it's a script...once you learn "do x at y time", you got a great shot at beating the content.
PvP is anything goes...expect the unexpected and react to it. It sharpens your hand/eye coordination and decision making.
You win some and you lose some. I've long believed that's why alot of PvE players avoid the PvP landscape. Because in any given fight, you can do all the right things and still lose. It can be a tough lesson to swallow.
Personally, I tend to enjoy PvP more, but I like PvE just as well. Never understood why it has to be a "either/or" choice.

I think you misunderstand me, probably you did not understand the joke. I do not mean anything to offend anyone. I am just asking why people play PvP in ESO or in any MMO..

I do wonder sometimes, why people care so much about the unbalanced pvp minigames duct-taped to the side of the mostly-PvE MMOs that I've played over the years, when they could be playing a properly-developed and balanced "real" PvP game.

Not meaning you per se, just a general thing I constantly see in any gaming forum.
There's always threads about PvP vs. PvE. Wasn't saying you are personally assuming anything. Just remarking on a constant trend where this topic is concerned.

Yeah when I think PvP my mind doesn't go to MMOs to be honest.

Because PVP in this game is among the most mechanically interesting, complex, and challenging combat I've experienced in a video game. I can't say the same about PVE.

There was no offense taken or meant. I was just suggesting that a little self reflection might make people realize the ones they don't understand are more similar to them than they realize. Two sides of the same coin.

    People's interests are diverse.

Because I find running around Cyrodiil with a bunch of friends playing a war game with large scale combat and strategy to be a ton of fun.

This surprised me a lot, because I started this game as a Skyrim player who never wanted to do any form of group content or PVP at all.

Ideally the reward is the gameplay itself.

Reward? There doesn’t need to be a reward in order to enjoy it. The gameplay is fun and more challenging than pve. And on the flip side, the vast majority of rewards in PVE are worthless

Did shooters for years, got way too good at it, insanely boring

Games like Overwatch are just fancy shooters.

Very few "real" PvP games allow you to be creative with your character. In ESO there's 1000's of combinations of sets. There's themes, and there's progression.

My character starts weak and I make him stronger. I hate starting and staying at the same level as everyone else.

Example: COD you can memorize exactly where to throw a nade immediately to kill people. That's not skill. That's boring AF. Oh cross hair on head, pull trigger repeat ad nauseum.

I can't think of any game on console that has such control over my character's stats etc and PvP

PVE is really bad in this game once you’ve done the most challenging stuff a few times. PVP is the only thing that offers any difficulty after a while—as cheese as it can be. There’s rarely anything predictable about what you’ll face (except for Sload’s atm).

Weird i don't find it boring at all.. What i find boring is rinse repeat gameplay, like die, respawn, run back, die! such as PvP..

The difference is everyone has the same setup same stuff same skillsets so its balanced which people like more. The only thing left is playerskill so everything is almost balanced in many of those games, mmorpgs is just a mess pvp wise..

So saying its all muscle memory isn't totally accurate.. Its at least a lot more balanced gameplay wise than this is.. Also mmorpg pvp is really just aimed at gankers and zergs.. Both of which is incredibly boring after say one hour.

I don't find Cyrodiil fun at all, but I like playing BG. I don't have to travel endless miles to get to a keep or getting ganked by a NB half way through on my very very very very long cross country journey.
