What’s the main reason for taking a long break or quit the game? If you do

Its just various things that add up.

Right now I've two main peeves plus a number of minor niggles.

    - minor niggles by themselves you just ignore but with enough of them they drag the experience down.

    - the Cyrodiil issues which count for a significant chunk. I want to be doing this content but the issues make it painful.

    - the level of grind introduced in Summerset. This has tipped the time investment from acceptable to "not fun".

The key here is the "not fun" bit. I'm playing this game because its my "me time" and and I want to be enjoying myself but right now its borderline. The design team need to look again at the balance between in game and enjoying yourself vs in game trying to force a result. The former keeps players, the latter does not.

Hint : for resource gatherers adding a 0 to the end of the requirements is the opposite of fun.

    Unbalanced gameplay
I am taking a break currently, I selected unbalanced gameplay, but more what I mean is I want to see a change in the endgame trials where a tank can actually equip tanking gear instead of Torug's Pact and Alkosh. I dislike that if I equip specific gear centered around keeping myself or my group alive that it is a detriment instead of a benefit, I also wish that it could be feasible to tank on every class, currently DK is still preferred over my Warden, and I feel it discourages people from doing this content if they feel they will have to reroll an entire alt just to successfully participate. I will probably stop playing till the end of the year and see how things shift then.

I would also hope to see a bit more love for PvP, cyrodiil has been neglected for a long time.

    PvP needs more love.

    Technical issues with the game
Right now I am taking a break only because of all the Summerset issues we had or are still having. I was not a happy player.......From what the forums have to offer it seems that PvP is still not running very smoothly and freezes or you get kicked out of the game. That was sooooooooooo frustrating to me. I'll log back into ESO here soon enough to find out for myself but right now I am enjoying playing Tera.

    People and guild politics
The main reason I wanted to quit the game was related to people management and group forming for guild veteran trials. It takes a lot of energy and effort to schedule a raiding day and making sure that the correct people will come (especially for vAS+2 and vCR+1,2,3). That alone may drive a person to want to stop playing.

Combination - Burned out/bored, Break is good, and Playing Other Games.

I came back 2-3 months ago due to pre-ordering Summerset & getting free Morrowind. So I had Morrowind + Warden to do, then the Anniversary, then Summerset. With this past free ESO+ week, I'm feeling a bit ground out, so I'll likely take a 'break' again now.

('break' will likely include logging in daily for the login bonus, and maybe doing the JC writ on my main JC'er.)

edit: bought the game in early 2017. I've probably taken like 4 "breaks". Major events tend to bring me back to real playing.

Bored of the game, nothing to do anymore
Well all of the reclusive activity from ZOS regarding long sought after improvements to the game was another reason. I wish they were more transparent with their overall game direction decisions.

The constant contradictions over game play decisions is another annoyance. The game moves in one direction, only to flip on the issue later.

Love ESO, I make sure to play every single day even if is a 30 minute session. Other interesting games come around however. Funny, been splitting time between ESO and Skyrim SE!

Poor server performance and lot of technical issues.

After leveling, there's not much to do but repeating samr stuff everyday.
    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

    Go dominion or go home

I could say Bored, but I have never found nothing left to do...
I could blame people, in one case I blamed PAKs... Punk Arsed Kids, that just annoyed me...
I could say balance issues, but I have never worried about balance as most balance issues are a misperception (the grass is always greener... Flavor of the month... )
I could say that all my friends left for other games, but I prefer solo play...

In truth, it's just a timing issue...

Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

There is never a "main" reason for me. It is usually a combination of enough things that make playing the game simply no fun.
Example, I played the game from launch but stopped after 2 months because of a number of things that for me personally made the game no fun
Phasing (was brutal at launch), about 20% of the quests were bugged or broken as i progressed, the only armor option for all classes was light armor and the only weapon choice was staff since realistically magic was the only real option for toons at launch. The decision to raise veteran levels to 12 then 14 so shortly after release of the game was out right stupid.

Lonely, no friends to play with
I stopped playing for two years because most people would rather play by themselves than do something with others. ESO is a solo-orientated game and it shows ...well, save for the group content ...that no one wants to group for. The problem therein is that ever since they added Trials (Raids), the game's population has been fixiated with them. Basically, ZOS ruined their one chance to be different than other MMOs and have become just another WoW clone, where it's all about them raids. Did you know that prior to Trials, crafted gear was the best gear? Now, it's not so simple.

Lonely, no friends to play with
I literally brought a guild of 30 people here on launch. After 1.3 update killed PvP, all but 3 of them left.

Those 3 stayed a while longer and eventually left the game. I rejoined a new guild, at the time we were one of the top guilds in the world. We always had top 1-3 scores in trials etc etc. After Sanctum Ophidia came out there was like 1.5 years where we got no new trial content, and got console release instead. When that happened all of the guilds I had joined quit because who wants to beat on content you've beaten 2042358345683 times. So I left. I think there are 4-5 people between all those guilds still left in my friends list.

I came back prior to Morrowind and was playing again and enjoying the game, beating vMOL etc with my now 3rd major guild. However when the Morrowind expansion dropped and they said it wasn't DLC (Which they now say it is, F you very much ZMI), I quit and didnt come back until Summerset.

So I've quit twice, both times because lack/cost of content drove PVE players away, and almost quit once because everyone left after the PvP performance got ruined.

Focusing the gameplay on ultra fast skill requirements with the implied requirement on pitch perfect Light Attack weaving was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Its such an odd gameplay decision. You are basically telling your playerbase that if they aren't dextrous and quick, they can't compete. For old farts like me it just drives me to play other games. I quit running the hexing pants build on Diablo 3 because it hurt my wrist. Non-stop animation cancelling in 1hr trials all day is just as bad.

This game needs to figure out what it wants to be if it wants to last another 10 years. Thats assuming ZMI wants that.

Multiple reasons. Game server issues, bored of the game, not enoughy content for end game becomes so repetitive. Dislike the mini trials. New games, real life, or just take a break from gaming period, among other reasons.

Bored with it. I'll play for a month or so and then move on.

Since I couldn't care less about achievements, trophies, collections, belongings or stuff and haven't a competitive bone in my body, I get bored with it easily.

I've got plenty of other games and this one is little more than a child's diversion.

I left because people I was playing with were too demanding of my time, and attention. It got to a point where I was getting spammed with messages and invites for weeks.

I have just recently started playing again, but this time I am on PS4 rather than Xbox One. Couldn't beat the deal for $10, and got a few of my friends to join in. Much more comfortable guild this time.

Bored of the game, nothing to do anymore
The PvE content was great the first time I played it, but I can't bring myself to slog through it again just to try another class. It's a waste of time and I'd just rather play another game. Cyrodiil isn't fun because you spend most of your night being crashed to Dashboard. Trials aren't an option anymore because my friends' guilds have long since disbanded and newer guilds want "skeleton tests" and other toxic BS. With these reasons, I've lost any motivation to continue. I'd rather play another game that respects my time commitment instead of forcing me to repeat old content in order to experience a new class or new content in general.
