ESO Drops should be for all Streamers

It’s a control mechanism that zos designed to “keep streamers in line” when talking about their product. Many streamers do it for supplemental income which is partly based on how many viewers they receive and people subscribing to the streamer’s channel. So what zos does is make so zos can affect the flow of traffic to whom ever they like using the drops. A streamer who makes critical commentary about the game that does not cast the game in the manner zos desires are less likely to get the drops. (Even if that commentary is accurate and conveyed in a respectful manner.) Which can impact their earnings from streaming the game, as streamers who do have the drops will get more viewers gravitating to their streams and pull viewers from streamer’s who do not have the drops.

There does seem to be a lot of "control" aspect to the drops. I don't think that it is about silencing folks though since you cannot punish people for watching say Alacast's stream because he is honest about the consistently poor balance decisions Wrobel makes. People could easily watch it without being logged in. Similarly, promoting others dosen't really hurt Alcast since you can watch as many streams at once as your bandwidth allows.

The "control", to me, looks more about trying to promote. Maybe ZOS has the mistaken belief that they can influence who becomes future stars. Or maybe it is just about trying to promote a broader based streaming community and ESO presence in in that sphere.

Honestly, despite my general tin foil hat tendencies, I think that, in this case, ZOS is not really trying to manipulate who has success. I think there just trying to get more presence in the streaming community. They are comparatively, not a very popular game to stream. The secrecy is just standard ZOS policy run amuck. I do think that if they wan't better success in streaming though the best way is to do a better job in game design and policing. Better balance, better scaled raids with better mechanics, cheat engine policing, and better server stability in PVP allowing a decent population size again, would go a long way to making folks want to watch people play it.

Just curious but has anyone received a random drop? Watched about 10 hours of streams with the twitch drop enabled and did not get anything.

You won't receive any potential drops until Monday or Tuesday. If you do receive them, are likely to only receive 1, with the potential to receive a maximum of 4, but likely you will only receive a single one, even if you watched for ten hours.

Thank you for the response. That bit of info doesn't appear to be on the ESO page.

I may be mistaken, but drops are rolled based on the number of streams watched (there is a time component to count as, "watching" a stream; not sure exactly how long, though), not by the amount of time watching. So bouncing between Tech & Junk, @Ninja614, @xynode, @Inklings and @Alcast (briefly), means, I'm probably going to see four crates on Monday. Though, I'm not sure. But, if I'd just camped in Ninja's never ending Bloodroot Forge stream on Friday, that'd only be one crate, even though the stream ran for 8 hours.

So far my thinking is that ZOS does one crate drop per weekend regardless of how many streams are watched. I have always recieved exactly 1 regardless of how many or how long I have watched on previous crate weekends. On some of the big weekends I was able to do ~9 streams at once for probably 15 hours per day. I would love to hear different if someone has received several on a weekend after the 5 crate press conference (before that there was some testing time with multiple drops.)
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

I've gotten more than one crate from a weekend. As far as I know, only one stream counts as being viewed at a time. So, you can open nine streams if you want, but you'll only count as viewing one of them. I actually got bitten by this during the ESO Live stream. I was watching it, but I was also watching Tech&Junk version, because Rich was in chat, and Ryan was reacting. So, no crates for me from the Wolfhunt announcement. Sadly.

I'll add that drops were enabled on the @FENGRUSH stream a few weeks ago, I got a few crates from watching him.

I believe that was for all streamers not just the sponsored ones though

Yeah, I think there a pilot program, a weekend that was everyone in the directory, and then two weekends where it's been just the sponsored team.

I'm a little curious why @Tianlein isn't on the sponsored list. But, that's a different discussion.

Yeah I think anyone that streams ESO for hours a day should have drops enabled tbh, I hate having to miss there stream if drops are enabled since I can only have one stream open at a time with my wireless

I'm just guessing, but once the drops are available on console, I kinda expect they'll regularly be available directory wide.

If the system were set up to notify you and award the crate at the time you get it, then also tell you that you can earn another one in 24 hours (or whatever cooldown they want to set up) then the transparency will allow players to tune into a top streamer for a crate, then if they choose, they can swap over to another stream without drops until the next day.

I'm not sure if it's a technical issue or if it's done on purpose, but we never really know how many crates we get until they come in on Monday morning and flip the big red switch labeled "CRATES". I could see either situation being true for various reasons.

Beating a dead horse here, but as always I'll try and make my point...
Why arent events, ESO Live, drops, contests, etc., on the splash page at login or in game as announcements?
If something effects the game, announce it somewhere that people who play the game will see it...

It is 100% ZOS's prerogative to choose to sponsor the people that they feel represent the game and community in the way that ZOS wants it represented. I like that this program exists, and I watch, follow and subscribe to many, though not all, of the sponsored streamers.

I also follow and subscribe to folks that are NOT sponsored by ZOS, and am a NON sponsored streamer myself. Usually, as a Fam, we're all really good at supporting each other. What I saw this weekend was not so great for the streaming community as a whole, though. The sponsored folks passed their raids and hosts among each other, and the many, MANY other streamers saw viewership plummet. Personally, I made the tactical decision to cancel all streams for the weekend. If I were a person hoping to make a push for Twitch partner, the lowered viewership would have killed my averages.

From my understanding, ZOS was testing......something. I don't know what. There was hardly any sort of notification to the community that drops would be active on any channel, and as far as I can tell, there's no actual list anywhere of who, precisely, makes up the #ZOSStreamTeam. It would be so, so freaking awesome to have some better communication about this.

I love the #ZOSStreamTeam, and I think that's a valuable use of marketing effort. What I don't love is the selective drops that segregate your streaming community. Lots and lots of people in the streaming community work really freaking hard to earn things to give away, whether it's in-game items or spending or own money for stream giveaway items, and it sucks really hard to see that work go for basically nothing because ZOS made a (seemingly) split second decision to push a handful of channels over all the others.

The streaming community is a Fam. We work best as a fam, by supporting each other regardless of sponsored status, and when drops are off or on for everyone, this is how it has worked. When drops are enabled for a select few, it pits us against one another and is downright punishing to the non-sponsored folks, and unfortunately, that was 100% a ZOS decision, too. Also, unfortunately, the lack of communication to your community makes the motives of such a weekend seem suspect, which is 100% a situation that could be avoided with....you guessed it..... good communication.

If the point of the crates is to promote the game, then it makes sense to not use them to direct people to streamers who will do negative advertising.

Sadly, this is a very poor statement for the game if that level of control is needed. While I personally love the current state of the game, I am not a PvP player. I completely understand why they might act like the sky is falling. For them, it may be.

Zos generally seem to use drops to boost streams they personally appreciate (i.e. not honest comments on horrific issues like lag).

Only exceptions would be those few who criticise in a softy-softy manner rather than unpfront stating how unacceptable some issues are.

No matter how much other content he may compliment, if they dont bend over for isdues like lag, they wont get drops (unfortunately) as zos knows that allows full casual softy complimenty streamers to grow past them with drop farmers.

100% was thinking the same thing

Fengrush isn't getting drops because he is upfront with the glaring issues that this game has, and makes rant videos explicitly vocalising this. I don't think ZoS appreciates it too kindly.

Or glaring issues PvP has. So many comments here generalize about the game but, as someone who rarely does PvP, my daily experience is great.

    Hi everyone,

We do intend to turn Twitch Drops on for all streamers on occasion, and will announce when we plan to do so. Members of our Stream Team do have some special perks, including getting exclusive Drops weekends (such as last weekend) but that doesn't mean they are the only ones that will ever have them enabled.

As for Fengrush, we can't get into details but know that we talk frequently, and it's not our place to post the details of our conversations publicly.
