The visual effect that now appears over ones head when attempting to detect someone in stealth...

According to the patch notes, the following is about to become a reality:

•A visual effect will now appear over your character’s head when using Detection Potions, Magelight, or Expert Hunter to notify other players of your ability to see sneaking/invisible enemies.

Now I have a real concern about this: lets say my Magicka Templar is in stealth and uses Radiant Magelight, will it break stealth and allow enemies players to see that I am attempting to locate an opponent in stealth?

Now I assume that if you are not in stealth and use Radiant Magelight, then everyone around you can see that you are using a stealth locating ability; I am fine with this and I feel its fair that my opponents get an additional warning (as if the big glowing ball circling me isn't warning enough..lol) that I am looking for them...

But, IMHO, using Radiant Magelight (while in stealth) should NOT break my stealth and alert opponents around me that I am looking for them...

Can anyone that participated in the testing tell me exactly how Radiant Magelight works (while in stealth) as regards the visual effect that will now be appearing over your characters head?

Actually, I think that's fair. If you're using Magelight you should be unstealthed.

This is supposed to work like the ring of light around guards in Heists and Black Sacraments and Hew's Bane and the Gold Coast and everywhere since. You know there is a range they can see you within and stop yourself before that so you avoid it.

Just count yourself lucky they didn't give you a blue ring also that allows them to see you coming from around corners.

    Edited for typo.

    Why is it fair?

Why should my opponent automatically know that I am searching for them?

And btw, did you participate in the testing?

Do you know exactly how it currently works?

Consider it like submarine sonar, which is exactly what this is based on at its very heart from past human history and ideas.
You either listen/look for someone to give themselves away with sound or visuals or you actively send out soundwaves/lasers to bounce off them and detect them.

You cannot detect someone actively without giving yourself away because you are sending something out.
    It makes perfect sense.

So stop using Magelight while stealthed by either stopping Magelight or stopping stealth because they are not intended to work together as they don't make sense to work together.

Also, it's rather unfair if you can detect them but they can't detect you when you are both stealthed.

Sorry, but I am only interested in what someone who actually knows first hand about the changes has to say...

And is if fair that I can hunt them in stealth as they have the option to slot a detection ability and do the same to me...

    This is a videogame...not a submarine.

Using Radiant Magelight while in stealth is one of the very few ways of countering someone using Cloak...

That has nothing to do with it. I'm basing my points on your assumptions.

By the way, my point is just about logic. You're sending out magic to PING someone. They're going to know you're there when they hear/feel that PING, just like sonar underwater, so they can also know which direction it came from.

Sorry, this is going live and will intentionally break stealth/cloak because you chose to use Magelight. It's a necessary sacrifice that you go into fully aware of the consequences. No more cheating to find other stealthed players without being detected yourself.

I like to use Inner Light while in Cloak. Will it expose me from Cloak and show that I am looking for invisible enemies?
