This is supposed to work like the ring of light around guards in Heists and Black Sacraments and Hew's Bane and the Gold Coast and everywhere since. You know there is a range they can see you within and stop your stealth so you avoid it.
Just count yourself lucky they didn't give you a blue ring also that allows them to see you coming from around corners.

Why is it fair?
Why should my opponent automatically know that I am searching for them?
And btw, did you participate in the testing?
Do you know exactly how it currently works?

Consider it like submarine sonar, which is exactly what this is based on at its very heart from past human history and ideas.
You either listen/look for someone to give themselves away with sound or visuals or you actively send out soundwaves/lasers to bounce off them and detect them.
You cannot detect someone actively without giving yourself away because you are sending something out.
It makes perfect sense.
So stop using Magelight while stealthed by either stopping Magelight or stopping stealth because they are not intended to work together as they don't make sense to work together.
Also, it's rather unfair if you can detect them but they can't detect you when you are both stealthed.

Once again, did you participate in the testing?
