Yeah, when I read his journal upstairs it was the saddest moment in the game and I couldn't stop tears. Now, everytime I will see dawnbreaker in next TES games I will always remember friend who sacrificed himself to purify it.

Why did you do this to me? I'll never look at Meridia's quest in Skyrim the same way again.

Now if you'll excuse me, Darien and I are about to go wreck some Volkihar vamps with the Dawnguard...

He died as he lived: gloriously.

Even though I'm a little annoyed that "Dawnbreaker is the divine artifact that we need" came out of left field at the very last quest. If that need for a divine artifact had been built up better, I wouldn't feel so blindsided.

That moment when your writing a quest, nearing the end and realize you've run out of voice actor dialogue.

It also makes me wonder who will be the cover character for whenever there's a DC-centric Chapter next time, like how Nayru was for Morrowind and Razum-dar for Summerset, Darien was always that kind of character for the DC stories.

Maybe Gabrielle or Skordo, even Lady Laurent haha.

I'm still upset we can't tell Gabrielle and Naryu about what happened in summerset, maybe both will show up in Murkmire.
After you read his journal you can go back to find Gabrielle at Anvil on the Gold Coast and tell her about it ( will need Dark Brotherhood dlc). She is there looking for a way to find Darien after Coldharbour. Otiginally when you talk to her there wasn't this option

Reading the book was really sad, but I think it was also beautifully written. I went to find Skordo in the Hollow City to see if I could tell him about Darien, but the dialogue was unchanged. I wonder if any versions of the characters mentioned will ever have their dialogues updated to reflect this.

In fairness Skordo somehow manages to forget everyone he encounters.

Yeah I know this is a necro but...I just did it again on another toon and it made me cry AGAIN and this time it was worse, because I'd convinced myself that I read a tone into that book at the end that wasn't really there, and omg yeah, it's there all right. It kills me to think of him up there in that sterile, beautiful, loveless place, slowly dying all alone and afraid. UGH UGH UGH.

They better write us a way to save him in future DLC!!!!

This is all very strange to me, because, personally, I've hated Darien with a passion since I first set eyes on him. His behavior just irritates me to no end. I was almost furious when he was brought back in Summerset, and growled when I found out that he's likely to be in another one. Why is it that the Daggerfall Covenant has the most annoying repeating npcs? AT least none of the other alliances had their repeating npcs grate on me on a personal level.

I just finished this quest and came in looking to see if he was brought back anywhere after he restored Dawnbreaker. I'm sad to see that so far he has not been. His talks to the character on Artaeum could almost be construed as romantic interest if you weren't aware of his attraction to every female he sees. But I had started to enjoy his company and really hated how first one, then the other strong companion was taken away from me in that quest. Having to tell Val that Leythen was gone when I'd been wanting them to somehow reconcile. Then finding the journal in the palace... Who thought nerdy game programmers had the ability to rip your heart out? Way to go ESO. LOL

I mean, some people dislike Naryu. Or Raz. Which is totally okay. I personally do not consider the two to be my closest friends, but I do consider Darien to be one after all that we've been through together. And he's the only friend of mine that was with me no matter what, work or other obligations, and sacrificed himself to keep my character safe.

I'm sincerely hoping that we'll see more of him further and find a way for him to stay himself and not irritate his daedric mom at the same time.

So where is this book/journal that people are referring to?

    Spoiler-marking it just cuz:
When you go to Alinor Palace for the meeting with the Sapiarchs, afterward two guards will be talking about a book appearing upstairs. Take the stairway to the left of the main door as you're facing it to go out of the room. It's on a bench toward the end of the balcony.

There's also a copy in Meridia's shrine in Eton Nir Grotto.

When you complete the Summerset story line and talk to everyone in Summerset castle, two guards will talk about a magic floating book appearing on the top floor. Just climb the stairs to the right (facing the throne) and it will be up there.

I remember listening to the two guards after the meeting going on about the book that a friend who'd finished the story a while back was telling me to come look for. I mentioned that the one whiny guard who first brings up the book's appearance sounded like Kermit with a head cold.

Then I read the book and got another punch in my darned feels.

Why are so many of the quests for Summerset sad or somehow tragic? Not only the main story but a lot of the side quests are like that too x__x.

If you chat with Skordo at the inn in Wrothgar he remembers everything. Well at least for me he did, maybe you're just not as interesting 😋

He's my favorite and I hope they bring him back for more.

It took me like 2 runs on PTS during initial testing to find this book. You can imagine how devastated I was, before I realized that there is still hope.
Summerset is an emotional mess. I hope the emotional mess continues tho.

Personally, I think they should make Majoll the main NPC in a quest line so he can forget about Jakarn and get a huge crush on all the male PCs. That'd be funny....

It's funny how they seemingly made him out to be an original object made human to serve Meridia when he originally was a character in Camlorn complete with father etc.

Just goes to show the discontinuity between the current teams and the original ones.

If you played the game with attention, you would've realized by now...
that it's heavily hinted that he was no a human on the first lace. He's created by Meridia and placed in mortal plane to deal with the undead problems. Every location you meet him he's dealing with zombies, vampires or Molag Bal servants (i.e. imperials, loyal to Septima Tharn). He's also has supernatural vitality, powers and prophetic dreams of events to come. But friendship with PC (or romantic relationship in some cases) made him sentient, to Meridia's great disappointment and curiosity.

So did Meridia also create his father, or was Gautier senior brainwashed into thinking that he had a son?

Still feels a bit like a retcon to me.

It would've been if not all his base game diary entries, soul-poison immunity, Northpoint incident with bloodfiends exploding in bright light after drinking his blood, him calling Coldharbour a familiar place and so on. I'm not joking, there is a HUGE amount of hints in the base game, even before his Wrothgar letter to PC about Colored Rooms.

There was a speculation about his father, one group of people suspecting a demi-prince creation in work and the others - brainwashing and input memories. I'm personally in favor of the second theory, especially with Meridia being into such a thing. But we can't know for sure yet. With all Meridia-related content coming soon I'm sure we will tho.
