As the title asks, it there any point to crafting purple or gold jewelry from the number of writs offered?

Getting a master jewelry writ now is the equivalent of a kick in the nuts, lot of expensive materials for a ridiculous amount of vouchers, not worth in the slightest and not even possible to sell them.

If you are referring only about every day writs, well you get some pewter and some whites selling low by now, sometimes an intricate platinum still selling for something, best case scenario you get a survey.

So I would suggest to do those but you better hope to not find a master writ out of them because they are just a waste, ZOS cannot balance ***. They made purple and gold materials a big grind and then assigned the same vouchers as if we are using rubedo leather along with clothing mat upgrade, lol, it doesn't make any sense.

    They really should fix that.

needs to either use 1/12th the mats or reward 12x the current value

Well... since you need 10 times more upgrade materials it would be fair (at best) if Master Crafting writs would give 10 times more writ vouchers...
And it is actually more than 10. In order to upgrade something to epic quality you need 10x more green, 10x more blue and 10x more purple plating...
Currently I am only doing jewelry crafting dailies to get jewelry crafting surveys...

Even doing the mental math on how many nodes I’d need to harvest to get enough raw material to get the 80 chromium grains necessay to do a Legendary one for a couple of dozen vouchers makes my eyes bleed...

I'm really upset how they did the whole craft. Why could they not stick to normal temper drops why did they have to add in 10 raw tempers to make 1 refined tempers is just over kill.

Not only is it over kill but there is just one place to farm the mats and with a ton of players farming it's not easy even to get to 200 raw jewelry mats. On top of the small amount of nodes the summerset map is small.

    How to fix this issue
    1. Change the damn tempers to 1 green blue purple gold equals 1 temper
    2. Much higher writ voucher amounts
    3. Nodes should be everywhere but only for the players that have the "chapter"

Until these changes I'm just going to save them for later on and hope they do a huge change to the craft maybe in a year or so.

Like a previous post here I’ve scrapped 2 of the 3 I got, I did try selling the last 100+ voucher one, dropped the price to 200 gold as that’s as low as the guild will allow, it’s just sat there. Took it down today and binned it, a hundred plus voucher Writ that’s utterly useless :/

You can farm the mats in every zone and you don't even need to buy Summerset.

Getting 200 raw mats is really easy, getting upgrade mats is the hard part.

JC master writs are broken - so broken that they will never be viable unless either they or jewelry crafting undergo a significant change. As an example, at current PC prices, an 8 voucher JC writ I have would cost ~13K gold per voucher to craft! That's about 30x the per-voucher cost of a comparable woodworking writ I also have! That gap will not be overcome solely by a long term price correction of jewelry mats.

Exactly, this is not a matter of time for the prices going down, we have 10x mats requirements and same vouchers as using single mats, sources aren't 10x either, it's ridiculous. I really wonder if they make decision at random and even know their own game because they just introduced trash master writs.

No, because no amount of writ vouchers from the "high grade" writs will make up for the amount of gold you need to sink for 8 chromium plating.....

With how much 1 chromium plate costs now, barely 800+ vouchers would barely make up for it :))

The craft cost is really high, and will remain so because even if the prices for those drop to the same level as those for the other crafts, you'll still need 10x more. At this point a low level one will cost 10K+ per voucher to craft, which is ridiculous, compared to 2-3 alchemy ones that summed up give the same number of vouchers and cost 3-400 gold per voucher to craft. That's more than one order of magnitude and it will only get marginally better. That's the reason I won't bother researching jewelry traits on more than one character; I've done for clothing, blacksmith and woodworking on 5 and started the 6th recently.

Another thing that bothers me is that top tier ordinary jewelry writs don't seem to have better rewards than bottom tier ones in terms of tempers. I have yet to see any chromium grain from the former and they both rarely give any tempers at all, most of green or blue quality; for the other crafts gold tempers have a ~1/3 drop rate, which is decent. It's vastly more profitable to do the bottom tier ones for surveys and the odd temper, then collect the surveys with a top tier character for the materials, and even as the skill increases on other characters, I won't bother investing those points in the passive any time soon.

The whole system surely needs tuning, first increasing the number of vouchers given by jewelry writs by a factor of 10, and increasing the temper drop chances from ordinary top tier writs.
