As beautiful as I think Summerset is, the way you've described the society, well it basically just sounds like the US lol. So that's a big fat NO.

I wonder when that property near hag fen is available to be bought - every time I go there it is not for sale.

I really wonder why ZOS thought it would be entertaining to make xenophobia one of the central themes of this chapter. It is seriously overdone, ubiquitous, overwhelming. In almost every quest our hero is reminded that they are an outsider, often in the most insulting manner. Xenophobia is the vile theme of almost every vignette, the subtext of almost every interaction between a Summerset Altmer and anyone else. Moreover, our characters are very rarely allowed to challenge or overcome that xenophobia.

This breaks one of the fundamental conventions of the genre. Whenever a fantasy hero encounters evil they confront that evil and defeat it (against seemingly impossible odds). In Summerset I feel my hero is left as nothing more than a mute and impotent witness to a very great evil indeed. It is not fun.

After one week spent on the same island as the Divine Persecution I can see why the Chimer took to daedra worship and left.

So, I will not be making a home in Summerset. In fact, after one run through all the content I doubt I will ever be going back to the island again.

But separation from the rest of the world for such a long time leads to things like xenophobia - they were not exposed to other races for a very long time, so they find it somewhat annoying to be bothered with it now - this is not different to how it is in the real world actually. Countries which just recently opened up a bit more display this kind of xenophobia as well - visit china and you will see what I mean.

Edit: well,I should add chinese people are overall pretty friendly people, but they treat you as a foreigner no matter what.

    This, absolutely this.

It makes perfect sense given the recent history of Summerset.

Any monoculture is likely tend towards xenophobia. I have lived in Japan for almost 4 years and many people I know well still refer to me as “the foreigner from the UK” (as opposed to being the foreigner from anywhere else).

Never understood the desire to actually live in ANY fantasy world like this.

A world where the town I settle in can be brutally wiped out because someone stumbles into an old half buried ruin or some depressed twit kneels at a candle and chants a ditty to a dark entity? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?

This, though, is weighted not against the safety of our world, but rather the absolute tedium of it. Being safe is lovely, I quite enjoy it myself. Truth be told, I'm quite partial to it. It's comfortable, isn't it? It's also cloyingly familiar. In such a sickeningly belaboured way that I find it difficult to feel invested in Reality Prime, it's not what you'd call fantastic. And by and large, the vast majority of the sapient beings here are self-obsessed, absolutely assured of their own superiority at the centre of their dead Universe. How frightfully, dreadfully dull, dreary, and depressing.

If I had to choose between the daily grind of life on earth, or exclaiming "WATA" at aliens to learn their varied tongues, or sitting in the shadow of my sizeable dragon-friend Farloft? That's a tough one to call. My partner suggests that more people are completely devoid of imagination than not, which is why this isn't a problem for everyone and why safety in homogenised surroundings is a no-brainer. For one such as myself, and for one such as my partner, it's not quite so clearly cut and simply defined. There are variables at play which simply must be considered.

If I knew I would very likely die a week from now, but I also knew that tomorrow I would ride a dragon (with whom I share a mental link, I see through their eyes as well as my own and use that to cheat at poker), would I do it?

I don't know if I could answer a question like that.

I don't know what it's like to be a person who could.

    Summerset: No.

    Artaeum: 100% Yes.

I only put "unsure" because Artaeum is linked to Summerset... so it's more of a "kinda". ;)

    Nah, I prefer trashy societies.

Khajiit have the most appealing lifestyle. Sleeping and doing drugs. Don't need anything else.

Summerset is by far the best looking zone though (along with Hew's Bane).

Summerset looks like Auridon and far too artifical for good - well it is artifical, that's why. A really awesome zone seen from the art work ZOS has put into is is IMO Grathwood - these forests look so amazing, I would not want to live there, but I really like the looks of Grathwood - I give you credit for Hew's Bane though, I really like the visuals of that zone at lot.

Summerset is much denser than Auridon with much higher quality assets and textures.

Well in this fantasy I would be a very well-to-fo elf in a world where I'd be achieving CHIM and becoming an immortal God.

I guess I would follow in Vivec's footsteps. Only with less people ruling.

I would definitely live there. When you talk to all imigrants (the ones long before the Queen's Decree) they make clear that the place is great.

    Geographically ...yes
    Population wise ...no

Those altmers are so up themselves!!!!

The entire Summerset thing makes me feel like I’m part of some socio/psychology experiment.

Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.
