ZOS needs to be up front and honest as to what really happened. Why did the game function so well for the first 6 months or so in 2014 and then just take a nosedive in 2015? I've heard all the theories, but now I want the official answer.

Balance.
Stop nerfing class abilities. Just stop. The balance problem was always with the power creep caused by other factors. Removing softcaps, putting so much power and raw stat enhancement behind the champion system. Counters are more important than nerfs. Many nerfs could have been prevented if smart counter-skills were placed in the game.

Stop "Shaking up the Meta." Changing how PvP works drastically from a skill and resource perspective every six months isn't fun. We want more content, more to do in Cyrodiil. Making towns capturable was a great addition but it shouldn't stop there. You should be able to upgrade the towns and add defenses around them. Also some quality of life things like letting wall repair kits stack to 200, getting access to your guild stores from cyro banker, and putting some guild traders in the base camps that you can hire for AP. The current system of guild traders at keeps just doesn't work. We go out there to fight, not trade.

Rich Lambert's famous words need to be considered in the reverse. Does HE actually want US here? Does ZOS actually care about the PvP community? Several key events in the history of this game has led us to doubt strongly that it does. There has been a TON of ZOS sponsored RP events, PvE events, but ZOS has been pretty hands off with the PvP community. They even had a policy at one point not to feature PvP builds on Buildmasters corner if they showed players killing other players. What? I don't even. We desperately need the air cleared publicly. It sucks to feel like the *** sons of ESO. I guess I know how the Orsimer feel now. But something's gotta give. There are plenty of great PvP MMO's on the horizon. ZOS won't have the monopoly on open world based PvP forever. So its time for them to decide if PvP has a place in their game, or just board up cyrodiil and turn it into a PvE zone so we can all move on for good.

@ZOS_GinaBruno It's time to deliever some proper answers.

I haven't heard from ZOS_BrianWheeler for months, but I've sent that dude so many ideas to help PVP I would always hope that at some computer screen he's reading and listening. The PVP community in ESO has been neglected and feels neglected. Particularly in cyrodiil. I wish ZOS cared more about us but from looking at the campaign screens of all factions it seems like there are at least 1200 characters on each side that login to campaigns within a 30 day. And there are about maybe 100 regulars that you see every night in cyrodiil.

Now zenimax won't go forward with the actual numbers for PVP, but it seems to shrink every patch. I remember when campaigns had 500 people allowed in at one time on each side. And now it seems like only 100 people are allowed in on each side. Sometimes DC on vivec is pop lock but we can't find those DC anywhere and we're struggling to hold our keeps against team Orange. Who we definitely know has 100 players because we're getting double team that and Ash.

The Imperial City and cyrodiil should have its own separate queue system. It really hurts the score when you know that there are 20 players in the Imperial City controlling the districts, but you're down to just your 3 keeps near your Gates.

I sincerely hope that next DLC is cyrodiil related or a massive PVP overhaul, because as someone who primarily PVP and hates 2 PVE(except to get gear for pvp) I don't feel like I'm supported. This game was marketed as an alliance war cyrodiil was its main feature, and now it's been forgotten about like a Dusty Book on a Shelf.

I honestly would pay $30 for another chapter if it was nothing but PVP related. Perhaps The Alliance War is Over and one side was the winner. Perhaps cyrodiil is nothing but a guild versus Guild location where people can Quest at their own risk. Either way I hope that zenimax and its developers and those focused on PVP really take a good hard look at the state of PVP in the game and come together and fix it. Perhaps host a PVP event or two.

I think if Zos just focused on smoothing out the lag and bar swap issues, Cyrodiil would be far, far more enjoyable. I'm still having tons of fun in PvP, but fixing these two issues would make a world of difference to personal enjoyment, in my opinion.

All that other stuff is well and good, but these two fixes would stop a lot of complaints players have about PvP, and might breath new life into Cyrodiil. I can't count the number of times I've died because I couldn't get to my back bar heals, because that 2 1/2 second bar swap delay made a horrendous difference between survival and death..

You know how many posts have been made like this one? Man if they haven’t answered by now they don’t have any plans to. As you say, it’s been years. Even if their plan was to put a little effort into PvP as possible, you think they’re gonna say that? Don’t be silly. They make more money promising us that every patch is gonna be the PvP patch or promising that the balance is coming and then blowing is off. At this point it’s on each one of us to jsut decide whether we’re gonna stay or not. Either keep playing and try to have fun/don’t overplay and come here to complain once in a while or do what some have done and move on. I would absolutely not hold your breath for some amazing reveal from ZOS concerning PvP.

The game isn’t built for pvp. They aren’t catering to long time players. Their business model is a cash grab every 4 months to get people to come back and spend money in the crown store, play for a week, rinse and repeat. Been involved in dev meetings in the past, 99% of what any of us said made it into the game, those that did were basically half done antics to feign “listening to the community.” (ie flags in towns)

I posted the same video on the forum. Half the comments to it was there was no problem and that the video was sensationalism. Yet there are countless threads about such topics. I don't get it. It's like Zos locks the thread and a bunch of their employees get on and crap throw in the thread until op abandons ship lol.

i honestly wish they had never instituted battlegrounds...that's where all the pvp resources keep flowing to...

i'm on console - so, looking forward to seeing how the new scoring changes affect gameplay...

the new bounty quests seem interesting - but, instead of battlegrounds I wished zos would invest more time in to "fixing" imperial city (direct access, remove t-bag/rez timer, allow us to red on any friendly alliance platform), and, investing resources in to some environmental changes in cyrodiil...

They do... they shove content and novelty items down our throats. And their actions regarding anything is clearly evident with their patches. They literally used to have whole PvP guilds meet with them about balance and progress, now by virtue of their inability to or unwillingness to fix their shortcomings ( and no offense to any guilds running at the moment) but there really aren’t any guilds left. So you get that half hearted class representative program nonsense.

Good luck getting ZOS to answer. PvP doesn't make them money so they aren't going to care about how well it performs or what the effects of their changes to it are. Proc sets, Cyrodiil lag, zergs, lack of PvP content, slowly adopting a P2W system - all of it shows that they don't take this area of the game seriously enough to listen to the community.

To get a good idea about community concerns, and where they really come from, it should be encouraged to have a platform designation. That video posted in this thread seemed like it was based on console community rather than PC. Sypher leaving was at a time where resources were being nerfed, and to be quite honest, 1vX's in my opinion shouldn't always happen. 1vX possibility was being threatened and that's when you have people leave. I enjoy the game as it is right now, but I can agree that ZOS has a responsibility to address the community concerns appropriately, and not with vague responses. Recently I committed my pvp time into Sotha Sil, and decided to have the CP for PVE. That is a good way to look at it, CP should be PVE based.

That would only leave sets, poisons, and pots plus the siege weapons for cyro.

I get it, ZOS & ESO both have their problems. I'm not saying the points brought up aren't correct, but to play devil's advocate for a minute...
I've played BDO & still continue to play alongside ESO. If you want a cash grab, go check it out. Idk how many developer's wives are rocking new Gucci purses at my or my guilds expense.
I love their open world PVP but guess what? They have this terrible karma system that wasn't so bad at launch but has been nerfed so hard you almost can't kill 2 people without worrying if your gear is going to degrade. BDO IS both a PVP & lifeskill game. They have broken almost every aspect of pvp. BDO has 0 dungeons, trials, or real PVE content but guess what?
I play BDO for the PVE grind & ESO for PVP.

    Some terrible things like proc sets come back to haunt us, sure cloak is broken every other patch, but I really feel like they try; even if they aren't all that great at coding. Management in any company will basically never care about anything but cash, but if you're that one developer that actually cares, it's up to you to make the difference. This is the best patch I feel like we've seen in a while. I've spent less money on ESO than BDO & played it 2-3 times as long; {ashamed}
So in general, I guess I'm saying take it easy on the hate, if you really think it's that bad then take a break. I did, and I'm back.

The game did not perform so well after release. Cyrodiil was a mess. Maybe the time that has elapsed has fogged up the memory. Many of the best PvP players left the game during the early months and went back to GW2, unfortunately. Yes, some remained.

    Performance was in the toilet.

EDIT: balance issues is not due to power creep. Never hear that before. I am certainly not suggesting nerfs are great, but the reasoning of power creep being the balance issue is beyond the pale.

    I stopped reading.

Zos will never give a straight answer concerning PvP. Why would they? It'll probably directly result in them losing the business or a significant chunk of the PvP playerbase. They'd never come out and go "Yeah we screwed up PvP so bad we decided to just throw you a bone every now and then, it'll never see any real investment".

It's been YEARS. If you're still unable to discern the answers to your questions by looking at their actions, then by now that's on you.

All credit goes to @Yolokin_Swagonborn for this awsome, well written text.
I dunno why he didnt posted it himself, but it just felt wrong to let it die in some old post.
Waited to posted this post SS chapter, so u wont have any excuses that multi core will help.

This is coming from PVP prespective, so if youre PVER, keep going.

    Content
Stop "Shaking up the Meta." Changing how PvP works drastically from a skill and resource perspective every six months isn't fun. We want more content, more to do in Cyrodiil. Making towns capturable was a great addition but it shouldn't stop there. You should be able to upgrade the towns and add defenses around them. Also some quality of life things like letting wall repair kits stack to 200, getting access to your guild stores from cyro banker, and putting some guild traders in the base camps that you can hire for AP. The current system of guild traders at keeps just doesn't work. We go out there to fight, not trade.

    Support

I think it’s time that PvP’ers stop seeing themselves as separate from the rest of the community. The game was designed with a balance in mind, meaning players can PvE, and then take a break from monster hunting to PvP. It’s not, nor has it ever been, a all or nothin to proposition; it only is viewed this way by players that predominantly PvP. Those RP/exp events? They benefit everyone, including you.

What if I just played the game to work the market and do trade skills? Should ZOS change their operating procedure simply to cater to the fact that I don’t want to diversify my experience? You’re not either a “PvP’er” or a “PvE’er.” You’re a player, and at times you’ll be doing PvE, and others PvP.

ZOS doesn’t like PvP you say? So their making Battlegrounds open to all was a negative? How about the Jubilee, where folks in Cyrodil had a definite advantage in accruing reward boxes with the sheer number of easy, repeatable quests? When the community was up in arms over BG’s being cp? ZOS responded to player complaints by makings it non-cp again.

The reason Cyrodil gets boring is the same reason Trials get boring; repetition. This isn’t a design flaw, it’s simply a matter of course in nearly all video games. You do something enough times, it’s going to get boring. I’m not going to blame McDonald’s for not making my McMuffin more exciting, I should blame myself for eating something out of habit instead of enjoyment.

And if you have cant enjoy facets of the game outside of Cyrodil, that’s your hang-up, not Zos’s.

W/e u guys are saying, doesnt change the fact that Cyrodill exists, and unplayable for years and hasnt got any major update aswell.
Thats the main point of this thread, @SmellyUnlimited Also, BGS means nothing to me as they are non CP, And dunno if you have noitced but after this patch, high rank BG'ers have to queue for 40+ minutes.

I’m on console, which I think doesn’t very long wait times. I didn’t know that BG’s match you with comparably experienced players; how does one find out their BG rank?
