@ZOS_BrianWheeler @ZOS_GinaBrunoThere's a major problem in Cyrodiil for anyone who wants to capture keeps, defend keeps, or generally pursue campaign objective. Siege Weapons and Repair Kits are bugged in a truly game-breaking frustrating way.
I got into Cyrodiil a little late this update, since I pre-ordered Summerset and wanted to try out the Psijic Order skill line (which I really enjoy, by the way!) and while I think the new Defense Tick Credit System seems to be working well,
@ZOS_BrianWheeler I have to say that this siege bug has greatly impacted my play and my enjoyment of objective-based play in Cyrodiil.
How the siege bug happens Part 1:
I start playing and everything works normally. For about two hours, I could siege with pact ballistas and attack with fire ballistas. I was able to defend keeps with oil pots. I was able to repair walls and doors.
This is how Cyrodiil should work.
Unfortunately, mid-way through a serious defense of Chalman, I couldn't repair the door anymore. The front door of the keep was wide open, ready for repairs. Other people could repair. I could not.
Okay, I'll move on. To Bleakers, where its abundantly clear that EP has to siege Bleakers or else we are all going to die. I can't lay down pact ballistas - the green circle doesn't show up anywhere. I can't lay down fire ballistas - the green circle doesn't show up anywhere. My EP compatriots are dying and I can't even lay down the siege weapons I need to flag Bleakers. I wanted to siege and I couldn't. Needless to say, without Bleakers flagged, we all were overwhelmed and pushed back to Chalman Keep.
By the time we'd made it to Aleswell, I still couldn't repair the doors or walls, or fire my ballistas, so I was like "IDEA! I'll grab the cold-stone trebuchets I have in my mail!" And that worked! I was able to siege again with cold-stone trebs. Now, mind you, that's not what I wanted to siege with because trebuchets are slow as molasses to fire, but I did it because in order to capture a keep,
you have to siege. ZOS may have buffed light attacks this patch, but light attacks don't bring down keep walls. Siege does.
How the siege bug happens Part 2:
This morning, I hopped into Cyrodiil for a bit of early morning PVP.
I started off defending keeps and I could drop oils and fire ballistas. It was great!
Captured a keep and I could drop pact ballistas to siege. it was great!
Went to capture Aleswell and I couldn't drop either pact ballistas OR fire ballistas. Um, so am I supposed to light attack the walls downs? No, sorry, i want to actually contribute to capturing a heavily defended keep that requires siege to capture! We eventually won the keep, but again, I couldn't repair the walls we'd broken and I had to rely on the few teammates in my small group to drop extra siege.
So, the saga of BRK begins: First time, we siege, I can drop cold stone trebuchets. Second time I siege, I can't. By the third time we siege the keep,
3 out of the 6 people in our group can drop siege. Those 3 people were champions, dropping extra siege for those of us who couldn't, but they shouldn't have had to. My siege should have been able to drop - but I couldn't even get the circle to appear. Naturally, we got smashed each time on siege because BRK was heavily defended and we couldn't drop siege to fight them and break the wall.
FRUSTRATING! I want to siege! My group wants to siege! We can't!
We eventually stopped playing this morning because half the group can't set down siege and its unfair to ask the other 3 members of the group to keep setting down double the siege to cover for those of us who couldn't. There wasn't any point to trying to capture any objective harder than a resource because we couldn't drop enough siege weapons or repair it if we'd captured one.
BUG TLDR: Eventually, I can't repair or drop any siege weapons. I can't repair, capture, or defend objectives with siege.
Why is this a Game-Breaking Bug in Cyrodiil?1. Cyrodiil is all about that siege ('bout that siege)
Cyrodiil objectives require siege. To capture a keep/, you have to siege down the doors/walls. To flag keeps so enemies can't resurrect there, you have to siege a door/wall to 50%. To defend keeps, you usually need defensive siege supporting aggressive defenders. To keep your keeps, you have to repair the walls/doors you broke and keep those walls in good repair over time. You can't capture a scroll without siegeing 1 to 3 keeps.
Siege weapons have to work. Repair kits have to work.
Otherwise, players can't capture/defend/repair keeps, outposts, and scrolls in a gameplay mode where the scoring system is entirely design around capturing/defending/repairing objectives like keeps, outposts, and scrolls.
2. The new AP Credit System uses siege to assign credit.
From the Summerset Patch notes, getting on the credit list for defending or attacking objectives can be accomplished many ways, including "Healing and damaging Keep pieces within the area of a Keep."
Hey, guess what this bug doesn't let me do! That's right, if I'm bugged and I don't have a piece of siege weapons or repair kits I can use, I can't heal or damage Keep pieces as part of the new Credit System. (Yes, this has happened already. My small group made it into Arrius in time for clean-up with nothing left but repairs. I couldn't repair the broken doors of the keep. Frustrating!)
TLDR: Siege is necessary in Cyrodiil for objectives. Eventually, I can't drop siege. See the problem?Uh, Varanis, I don't siege. This doesn't break MY game.
Hey, so the thing about siege is that you have to siege to capture objectives like keeps, outposts, and scrolls. So if you do anything at all with those objectives, you are depending on other people to drop siege. I know, I'm one of those other people who almost always drops siege weapons at objectives.
The problem for you is this. I can't drop siege. So if you were depending on
someone else to drop siege so you can break into that Keep/outpost and get the delicious AP inside or you were depending on
someone else to drop oils so you can go kill the enemy, guess what? I can't drop siege weapons! Some of those people you were depending on to drop siege
can't drop siege anymore. That means less siege. Less siege means longer fights to capture keeps. Less siege means harder keep defenses.
Its one thing to have practically no siege and a huge long fight outside Bleakers or Alessia ending in a wipe because we're a bunch of PUGs who just want to kill players and light attack the walls. Its a whole 'nother thing to want badly to drop siege and not be able to, so the fight drags on ending in a wipe because we can't drop siege to flag the keep!
So unless you never ever have anything to do with capturing/defending/repairing objectives in Cyrodiil, this siege bug is going to start impacting your play even if you never drop siege. If you are depending on
someone else to drop siege, eventually they get bugged and can't drop siege.
To ZOS:@ZOS_BrianWheeler, I really enjoy some of the new changes in Cyrodiil. Unfortunately, I also really enjoy capturing/defending/repairing objectives to win the campaign and this bug directly impacts my ability to do so. As I keep playing in Cyrodiil, I eventually became unable to set down the siege I bought, unable to repair the keep I helped, unable to help capture or defend keeps with siege. Its extremely frustrating because I want to contribute to the campaign score and to good PVP fights by capturing/defending/repairing keeps. Please get this bug fixed ASAP!
To Players:
Have you experienced this bug with becoming unable to set down siege weapons or use repair kits? Tell us about it here! Have you sent in bug reports to ZOS? I've sent several. Feel free to post your ticket numbers here. Have any ideas for solutions that don't involve logging out of Cyrodiil in the middle of Vivec primetime? Please share, or I'm going to start slotting 8 different types of siege in hopes that something works!
