Game-Breaking Frustrating Problems with Siege Weapons

@ZOS_BrianWheeler @ZOS_GinaBruno

There's a major problem in Cyrodiil for anyone who wants to capture keeps, defend keeps, or generally pursue campaign objective. Siege Weapons and Repair Kits are bugged in a truly game-breaking frustrating way.

I got into Cyrodiil a little late this update, since I pre-ordered Summerset and wanted to try out the Psijic Order skill line (which I really enjoy, by the way!) and while I think the new Defense Tick Credit System seems to be working well, @ZOS_BrianWheeler I have to say that this siege bug has greatly impacted my play and my enjoyment of objective-based play in Cyrodiil.

How the siege bug happens Part 1:
I start playing and everything works normally. For about two hours, I could siege with pact ballistas and attack with fire ballistas. I was able to defend keeps with oil pots. I was able to repair walls and doors. This is how Cyrodiil should work.

Unfortunately, mid-way through a serious defense of Chalman, I couldn't repair the door anymore. The front door of the keep was wide open, ready for repairs. Other people could repair. I could not.

Okay, I'll move on. To Bleakers, where its abundantly clear that EP has to siege Bleakers or else we are all going to die. I can't lay down pact ballistas - the green circle doesn't show up anywhere. I can't lay down fire ballistas - the green circle doesn't show up anywhere. My EP compatriots are dying and I can't even lay down the siege weapons I need to flag Bleakers. I wanted to siege and I couldn't. Needless to say, without Bleakers flagged, we all were overwhelmed and pushed back to Chalman Keep.

By the time we'd made it to Aleswell, I still couldn't repair the doors or walls, or fire my ballistas, so I was like "IDEA! I'll grab the cold-stone trebuchets I have in my mail!" And that worked! I was able to siege again with cold-stone trebs. Now, mind you, that's not what I wanted to siege with because trebuchets are slow as molasses to fire, but I did it because in order to capture a keep, you have to siege. ZOS may have buffed light attacks this patch, but light attacks don't bring down keep walls. Siege does.

How the siege bug happens Part 2:
This morning, I hopped into Cyrodiil for a bit of early morning PVP.
I started off defending keeps and I could drop oils and fire ballistas. It was great!

Captured a keep and I could drop pact ballistas to siege. it was great!

Went to capture Aleswell and I couldn't drop either pact ballistas OR fire ballistas. Um, so am I supposed to light attack the walls downs? No, sorry, i want to actually contribute to capturing a heavily defended keep that requires siege to capture! We eventually won the keep, but again, I couldn't repair the walls we'd broken and I had to rely on the few teammates in my small group to drop extra siege.

So, the saga of BRK begins: First time, we siege, I can drop cold stone trebuchets. Second time I siege, I can't. By the third time we siege the keep, 3 out of the 6 people in our group can drop siege. Those 3 people were champions, dropping extra siege for those of us who couldn't, but they shouldn't have had to. My siege should have been able to drop - but I couldn't even get the circle to appear. Naturally, we got smashed each time on siege because BRK was heavily defended and we couldn't drop siege to fight them and break the wall.

FRUSTRATING! I want to siege! My group wants to siege! We can't!
We eventually stopped playing this morning because half the group can't set down siege and its unfair to ask the other 3 members of the group to keep setting down double the siege to cover for those of us who couldn't. There wasn't any point to trying to capture any objective harder than a resource because we couldn't drop enough siege weapons or repair it if we'd captured one.

BUG TLDR: Eventually, I can't repair or drop any siege weapons. I can't repair, capture, or defend objectives with siege.

Why is this a Game-Breaking Bug in Cyrodiil?

1. Cyrodiil is all about that siege ('bout that siege)
Cyrodiil objectives require siege. To capture a keep/, you have to siege down the doors/walls. To flag keeps so enemies can't resurrect there, you have to siege a door/wall to 50%. To defend keeps, you usually need defensive siege supporting aggressive defenders. To keep your keeps, you have to repair the walls/doors you broke and keep those walls in good repair over time. You can't capture a scroll without siegeing 1 to 3 keeps.
Siege weapons have to work. Repair kits have to work.
Otherwise, players can't capture/defend/repair keeps, outposts, and scrolls in a gameplay mode where the scoring system is entirely design around capturing/defending/repairing objectives like keeps, outposts, and scrolls.

2. The new AP Credit System uses siege to assign credit.
From the Summerset Patch notes, getting on the credit list for defending or attacking objectives can be accomplished many ways, including "Healing and damaging Keep pieces within the area of a Keep."

Hey, guess what this bug doesn't let me do! That's right, if I'm bugged and I don't have a piece of siege weapons or repair kits I can use, I can't heal or damage Keep pieces as part of the new Credit System. (Yes, this has happened already. My small group made it into Arrius in time for clean-up with nothing left but repairs. I couldn't repair the broken doors of the keep. Frustrating!)

TLDR: Siege is necessary in Cyrodiil for objectives. Eventually, I can't drop siege. See the problem?

Uh, Varanis, I don't siege. This doesn't break MY game.
Hey, so the thing about siege is that you have to siege to capture objectives like keeps, outposts, and scrolls. So if you do anything at all with those objectives, you are depending on other people to drop siege. I know, I'm one of those other people who almost always drops siege weapons at objectives.
The problem for you is this. I can't drop siege. So if you were depending on someone else to drop siege so you can break into that Keep/outpost and get the delicious AP inside or you were depending on someone else to drop oils so you can go kill the enemy, guess what? I can't drop siege weapons! Some of those people you were depending on to drop siege can't drop siege anymore. That means less siege. Less siege means longer fights to capture keeps. Less siege means harder keep defenses.

Its one thing to have practically no siege and a huge long fight outside Bleakers or Alessia ending in a wipe because we're a bunch of PUGs who just want to kill players and light attack the walls. Its a whole 'nother thing to want badly to drop siege and not be able to, so the fight drags on ending in a wipe because we can't drop siege to flag the keep!

So unless you never ever have anything to do with capturing/defending/repairing objectives in Cyrodiil, this siege bug is going to start impacting your play even if you never drop siege. If you are depending on someone else to drop siege, eventually they get bugged and can't drop siege.

To ZOS:
@ZOS_BrianWheeler, I really enjoy some of the new changes in Cyrodiil. Unfortunately, I also really enjoy capturing/defending/repairing objectives to win the campaign and this bug directly impacts my ability to do so. As I keep playing in Cyrodiil, I eventually became unable to set down the siege I bought, unable to repair the keep I helped, unable to help capture or defend keeps with siege. Its extremely frustrating because I want to contribute to the campaign score and to good PVP fights by capturing/defending/repairing keeps. Please get this bug fixed ASAP!

To Players:
Have you experienced this bug with becoming unable to set down siege weapons or use repair kits? Tell us about it here! Have you sent in bug reports to ZOS? I've sent several. Feel free to post your ticket numbers here. Have any ideas for solutions that don't involve logging out of Cyrodiil in the middle of Vivec primetime? Please share, or I'm going to start slotting 8 different types of siege in hopes that something works!

Same!! Since the day of the patch. Those things would work for a short time, then just stop.
    I have done /reloadui
    I have alt f4
I have deleted repair kits that I had & gotten new ones

    NOTHING FIXED THE ISSUE

It has been frustrating beyond believe & almost emmbarrassing. Everyone around me is repairing or sieging & I'm just standing there. Since nothing will work.

The other thing I noticed is certain food won't work. I normally use the Witches Brew every 2 hours but I also have 3 or 4 citrus something or other(gold good).
I notice I need to reapply, I try WB & nothing. It makes the sound effect but doesnt register. But it lets me eat the gold food.

Any siege/repair kits that won't work I've also noticed that I can't deposit them back into my bank when I'm in Cyro. But when I leave Cyro, I can then deposit it into my bank.

    PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

Thanks OP for this important thread!

Careful with this bug. I've noticed when it happens, it makes a duplicate of the siege you were using in your inventory. I was down to my last cold fire siege when this happened to me, and then I had two of them. I left PvP and relogged and both cold fire stayed in my inventory. I put in a bug report, but I could see peopling getting in trouble exploiting this bug.

So far ive been unable too use trebuchets after using and placing one seconds earlier the Placement Indicator no longer shows and cannot be activated.

The same with alliance war potions from vendors they cannot be used.

Friends have experienced 1% doors that they cannot walk through but everyone else can including walls that are already down and cannot be walked through.

Also Regen for stam and mag is acting weird...there have been times where me and a friend havent even been in a fight and we're using our abilities as normal I.e shadow disguise and we'll lose almost double the magicka for some reason, then when in combat without cost poisons procing on you, its almost as if your regen doesn't exist sometimes then other times it does.

Cyrodil is being really strange at the moment.

Also if they're assigning credit for sieges that means not everyone will get credit due to the siege cap so they should uncap the sieges but lower the damage so more people can be involved without the keeps being broken into far too quickly.

UPDATE: The Conquest Bounty board does not allow you too take another quest from it (not always). The other person im grouped with managed to get another quest but I could not.

Its not just sieges, it just seems that cyrodil is generally broken at the moment.

We had some interesting issues last night with door health at BRK in Sotha and at a few other places. It would show the door %health at different numbers for different people in our group. And this would also not correlate with the door being intact/dented/smashed down. Saw the Aleswell door at 100% health but dented. And our ram actually rolled right through a BRK door that still had 10-20% health and we couldn't get through. Something strange is happening.

But all said, I really enjoy the credit lists and changes to O/D ticks. I seem to be earning a lot more AP from actively engaging in the battle and not loosing it to people who show up at the end.

    .

To be entirely clear, gaining credit for sieging is one of many things you can do to gain credit. Its very rare that I find myself only getting credit from repairs, but as I said, rushing to defend but getting there on the tail end of a keep defense where the attackers were already killed but nobody repaired the doors yet is exactly that situation. Usually, I'm able to heal allies or assist with killing enemies and get credit that way.

They did expand the number of defense siege slots up to 30 depending on the resources, but in my opinion with people getting credit for effective healing or assisting with killing enemies, more siege slots is not needed to give more people a chance at getting credit for the tick. In any situation where you need more siege spots, you can get credit by healing or helping kill enemies. Its just that if you are bugged, you can't get any credit from repairing keep walls or doors, and are forced to get credit by healing/killing instead of siege.

But thanks for the updates, with everything else! Ive gotten the Conquest bug not offering me a new quest too.

With the game designed around either taking objective, or defending it (at least PvP is)....not being able to drop siege after the first one or two times means you cant do either of those very quickly in any gaming scenario. Since AP is handed out based on what you do during those instances, again....you as a player are denied a basic game function that is part of the design and now your rewards from the game are being impacted directly. At some point, those out pushing objectives will get to where no one can drop siege any longer- fights will dry up and Cyro gets stagnant. They will defend until they cant do repairs any longer then just log off as they cant play either offensive or defensive Cyro.....how in the world can this ever happen and a better question is why isn't someone from ZOS in here speaking to the issue right now?

You might find this thread of interest as well since its a running list of 'bugs' the game currently has in one place in the hopes someone associated with 'fixing' them would like as many as possible in one place to 'tick off the list'

Maybe we just didn't tag the relevant person to get some response at this point that they are aware and working on the issue. Since it breaks the game for PvP, let me tag and see if the relevant person/persons simply didn't see whats going on.

While I havn't experienced these bugs yet I did come across a situation though, I ported to Aleswell and heard what sounded like a wall coming down. Went outside and all the outside walls were at full health and no signs of siege but the inner wall was destroyed except it was showing full health and had the door there lol

Unfortunately, my Sunday night looks exactly like my Friday night so far.

My siege weapons and repair kits worked fine for two hours, though numerous people in my group complained they couldn't drop siege/repair.

But as soon as I started to solo play...

I went to defend Kingcrest, couldn't repair the door. Ticket #180527-004344

I went to attack Aleswell. At first, all was good. I could use regular and fire ballistas on the outer walls. Unfortunately, as I rushed to the inner keep, I was unable to set down neither fire nor regular ballistas to siege the inner keep while under heavy defensive fire where every extra second counts. I wanted to siege and couldn't! (No, we weren't at siege cap, since I could lay down oils, but that would be useless...)

    Ticket #180527-004442

Hey, got back in after disconnecting, and I could repair the door at Chalman. ONCE. Seriously, I got ONE repair in and then it stopped working. Ugh.
    Ticket #180527-004487
On the plus side, getting disconnected fixed my regular ballista, so that's a plus, I guess...

These bugs have been happening for me over 2 years...You'd be surprised what other bugs I have encountered. I even had a bug that let me walk through keep walls before (think I have video of this one before I logged out)...I've long suspected that these bugs have to do with how the client is processing the terrain and your player's position on it. The problems seem to be random for me, but always after playing the game for a while and noticing graphical abnormalities (on the ground).

Absolutely agree with OP. I'll just add that this "siege" bug was one of the many issues that was reported and discussed during the PTS. Frustrating that so many of us took the time to do ZOS's testing and provide feedback on broken game mechanics - only to see the game broken so badly when it was released live. And a week later, not only is the game broken, but we have no acknowledgement from ZOS that there is even an issue.

I have put in several tickets this week on the siege bugs. Not sure if everyone affected should do that or not. It seems like an exercise in futility.

as this appears to be an intermittent bug that doesn't happen to everyone and doesn't start right away I give it 3-6 months minimum before it's completely fixed, not that it'll affect me as I still can't play atm 180524-001963 :(

There were also bugs where the side doors of an enemy outpost were at 100 percent and open (the door stayed, but you could walk through the wall), and also times were you couldn't attack anyone, neither with light or heavy attacks or skills.
But yes, experienced the siege bug (and the duplicate bug).
Hope they fix this, because this plus the lag makes it a bit hard to play... :)

Can confirm some of the bugs, have a new one. Actually the only thing that works consistently for me (until now) is the sieges

    - unable to repair door or walls while everybody else around me is reparing ("item is not ready"); putting repair sets out of the quickslot and back in does not fix the bug
    - unable to mount horse after some time

Changing campaign (I ported from Vivec to Shor and back) removed all bugs for some time, but ofc that is not feasible when there is a queue.

This morning worked out the same as Saturday morning.

    Everything started out fine.

    Then I couldn't repair doors. Ticket #190528-001373
Then I could repair the wall once and not again. Ticket #180528-001517
Then I was down to my last 2 oil pots while fiercely defending Chalman. I placed one and still had 2 showing in my inventory and couldn't place another oil pot. Wrote a ticket, can't remember the number.
Then I could drop one regular pact ballista and not the second while trying to capture Blue Road Keep. Ticket #180528-001587

    Then I disconnected.
Suddenly, I can drop all my siege weapons and repair again!

I mean, I'm no fan of disconnecting in Cyrodiil, but I guess they have an unintended bonus of fixing the siege bugs?

I really, really hope this all gets fixed on Tuesday's maintenance, because this constant random "Can I siege/repair or can't I?" is really frustrating as I'm trying to pursue the campaign objectives. I've had the Conquest "Capture 3 Keeps" quest and I hate basically leeching off the people who can drop siege because I'm bugged and can't siege/repair randomly in the middle of battle.
