To all the people who complained about twitch crown crates

Well guess what?

Nothing but good has come out of it.

ESO has consistently been within the top 2 pages of Twitch, bringing exposure to the game. At the time of writing, ESO has 5000 views on Twitch (this is off-peak NA time too).

I've seen a lot of players who are in the comments asking about the game, and Im sure a fair few would have found the game now that it's actually visible on twitch and not lurking on page 15 with under 500 views like a month ago.

The recognition of some of the streamers that put in the hard work also is significant. Alcast with 2k views, Ninja with 1k. Great ambassadors to the game who are actually reaping the benefits from this emerging exposure brought to the game.

Now it's all about ZoS figuring out a way to make this sustainable, so people don't just get a one-off crown crate and leave.

But yeah, twitch has been another good platform for ESO to cement itself, and with more exposure brought to the game, more money will be invested back into it.

I hung out in alcasts today for a few hours during work and he really replied to a lot of people and showed a lot of different game play and other stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised because I normally listen to music/videos in the background so do not watch many streamers.

When I have in the past it just turned me off because bong rips, loud quasi-rap music and someone umming and uhhing throughout just gives me braincramps.

So yeah, check out alcast. Also karraxx stream was nice but I don't have that link to hand.

I'd certainly say that this can't and won't be a bad thing whatever happens.

But I am still severely disappointed in the "rewards" we receive as Drops and in the chance of receiving them.

Seems to me that once people figure out that it's a one in a hundred chance they will just go on their merry way. Forums are filled with people trying to figure out why they haven't received anything after watching for days, and even once you do receive a crate, you just get poisons or other garbage.

Change the Drops to some useful things and most people wouldn't even be complaining about this.

Still, some advertisement won't hurt the game and the timing is very nice. New players even get the possibility to preorder Summerset once they see ESO on Twitch.

Why watch some random hobo play the game, when I can play the game myself?

That's the general mentality i have when it comes to a game that I am playing, and then offered to watch the same game played by some other dude.

The excuses I often hear why, are generally "Watch a "Pwo" pway it" (Insulting play on words intended), and to that I answer: I don't give a *** if the guy has a higher rating/level/gear level than me, I still don't see a reason to watch some random guy who looks bored half the time play a videogame, who potentially also has the most boring voice on the planet.

This is why I do not stream, or interested in the Twitch ecosystem what so ever.

    Agree with OP.

I was surprised to find that I actually enjoy having a stream playing on my second monitor, while I play ESO. I thought it would be distracting or annoying but it kind of just feels like playing ESO with someone else in the room.

To present a rather cynical approach to this (quite out of character for me, I know), it is interesting that ZOS has to pay people to watch game streams. Maybe that is where we are now, with the attention span of gamers. All that I expect will happen is that the Twitch viewers will camp on streams to get loot, multiple streams if they can, and migrate to the streams that give the best loot. Fickle players will be fickle.

I never could get into it either. My free time is limited. I'd rather spend it playing a game than watching someone else play.

Having said that, I'm glad this program is helping ESO. As much as I'm not interested in watching streamers, I know a lot of people are and Twitch is an indisputably great marketing platform.

Really? Are you saying you would honestly want to watch someone stream the game rather than playing the game? Maybe that is why they have these rewards, now. Not to get people to watch the streams, but to give them a reason to stop watching and play.

Are you getting paid for this PR?

Hold on, think I threw up in my mouth a little...

OK. If streamers are getting views on Twitch for playing ESO, that's good for ZOS and it's good for the streamers. That doesn't automatically translate into something every player needs to be jumping up and down over.

ZOS is a business, and TESO is their product. And as their consumer, there is a line here that I would prefer to not cross, because despite my being a gamer, I do have a few ounces of self-respect and self-possession.

As their consumer, they have an obligation to me to keep me happy or risk losing my business. That's how business works. Expecting me to be their unpaid cheerleader is not part of that deal, especially when you have as long a list of unresolved grievances after playing this game for 3 or so years, like I have--everything from how ZOS fails miserably and consistently in addressing harassment targeting players via their in-game chat and mail system to the bot problem to the gawd awful way they implemented jewelry crafting.

Streamers getting more views is simply not an indicator that I as their consumer is getting what I want from their product. My concerns with this game's current state are not addressed by more ads, promos, PR stunts on Twitch, shills (aka "ambassadors") and more and more free garbage. I want a game I enjoy playing, that doesn't make me feel like I'm wasting my time or money, that doesn't feel like a chore, that doesn't make me browse through my Steam library to see if there's something else I could be playing right now, and at the moment, there are some significant issues with that, things that ESO and Alcast getting more visibility on Twitch isn't addressing, but, if anything, is distracting from.
PC-NA since 2015. Tired and unimpressed.

Yes. Personally, I stream, play and occasionally watch others. Why? The community aspect of Twitch and building a friendly community is both very fun and rewarding. You get to meet new people, just as you would in game. I’ve met some awesome people that I never met before ingame.

Also why would I have to stop and watch? I can multi task and play. Just like another poster said why do people watch tv and movies? It’s all entertainment. If it’s not for you then that’s okay! You don’t have to watch, or you can always find someone who suits your preferences for entertainment. There are many personalities in the ESO streamer community, not just PvE/PvP/RP.

IDK maybe it gives some honest insight, I might be biased but I’m glad they introduced the Twitch Drops as it promotes connecting players (even if it just for free stuff initially). It might not be for everyone but the choice is there.

Some people have the type of job that they can have something playing, but cannot really actually game at the same time.

Some people don't really watch TV, but still have menial daily crap to do, like folding laundry, ironing, etc.

Some people have kids, and sometimes those kids get ill, and you need anything to keep you awake/break the silence over coughing etc.

These times are when I watch (well listen more often, to) streams.

I don’t blame them, I blame the kids who spend all their time watching some 25 year old with purple/red/green hair play a video game. It’s exploitative to some degree, but it’s the fault of the consumer and the parents who finance the whole thing.

    THANK YOU!
    I agree with you 100%
Maybe I'm old school, but every time I just want to shout at them "Get a job! Hippy"
Yes, yes...they say that IS their job. What a world. How does that get worded on a resume?
I would rather play the game than watch some tool play it. Never understood this.

They are entertainers like a stand-up comedian or a comic book writer. Or those people who are cooking in a tv show

But yeah, twitch has been another good platform for ESO to cement itself, and with more exposure brought to the game, more money will be invested back into it.

... dude I've been in 2 streams ( 14 hours) total and I got 0 crates.. I think this is just a cheap scam to get people to buy the game and get crates with money than actually winning them off by watching streams.

Yeah I just unlinked waste of time, it seems to pick favorites or something, after 2 streams of nearly 5 hours each I got 0 as well
