New skin. Zos becoming lazy?

But back on topic: the real scrutiny here is the absurd statement made by the ZOS rep on how this new skin was going to be JUST AS dope as the dromathra skin. Thats a gross exaggeration and pure PR lie.

    Here is the full quote:

“When we talked to our artists and looked at the rewards we've done previously, we realized that everybody loves the Dro-m'Athra Skin from the Maw of Lorkhaj the best," says Finnigan. “It's hard to get and is the most iconic and noticeable Skin in the game, so we asked for and crafted something that is as cool as that. The Shadow Skin is something that players are going to look at and really want for themselves."

    Instead we got another raisin

There are so many ways they could have gone about making a purple skin. They chose to make another mangled-flesh type skin with purple eyes, now featuring some purple cracks.....

I’m just sad that this was the best they could come up with :unamused:

My Sorc will probably use it for a Necromancer themed outfit but that’s it (currently using Ebony Epidermis). The Cloudrest skin is pretty bad tbh.

on promotion image ye, but in real its dissapointing (spiderkith but with less glow effect heavily dessaturated)
Personaly I'd like it more if it would be red but meh still better then the gold and silver skin

It's funny that you call this lazy.

Back when the ebony epidermis was on the store, there were threads calling that lazy, for being a reskin of the Spiderkith skin.

Skins are ugly. If I do a good job with character creation, why would I want to ruin it with a skin?

The only thing this skin have in common with Ebony Epidermis is color, however, compare it to the skin at the top of this page instead. They just took that Infernal Epidermis skin from crown crate, changed yellow color to purple, toned down emission and played around with masks a bit to make cracks a bit smaller. wow. awesome job! takes like 10 minutes.

Anyone that calls and developer of a MMO lazy has zero clue what's involved in building and maintaining a MMO especially in today's whinehard snowflake society.
I've made re-textures of in-game items for a couple of different games (Sims 3 and 4 mostly, but I've also done a few mods for Skyrim and Oblivion). All it takes to re-color something from blue to purple (for example) is a quick 10-minute edit of the texture file. So if this skin is literally just a recolor of another skin they've already released, then yeah, it's lazy. I should know; I've done that exact same type of texture editing.

I don't know if it's a direct recolor, though, since I'm not going to attempt to compare the two skins side-by-side to see. If they did a complete repaint/redraw of the skin, then that would of course take longer.

Not only is the skin lazy, but it'll doesn't even look cool. They really missed an opportunity to make a shade/shadow skin seeing as that's what the entire trial is about. A similar effect to the pre order shadow horse but in purple would have been super cool, not that hard to do and would have been different from any other skins they currently have.

The only question I have is, why is the elf not a purple raisin? Does this mean the skin actually doesn't cover the whole character in a human/elf race? Is this intended? Or it the elf there only as eyecandy?

And yes I agree. The skin is ugly. I don't see myself using it even if I managed to get it. Only reason would be for bragging rights. But then again that's why most people use skins coupled with skimpy outfits, aye?

This had more effort put into it than the others, whilst it is visually similar, its a completely new skin, no recolour like HOF/AS and, if they darken the grey/black parts, to make the purple pop, it'd be quite decent.

Tbh this will make the crownstore skin to be worthless, too. Since those players, who bought this skin earlier, won't be wearing it, because they'll fear other players will think about them that they're 'cheating' as trying to make others feel they're copying the trial-skin. So no, trial skins should be really different than the others, obtainable from any other sources. I'd really be curious about a cool green skin (but really, Summerset -> nature -> magic -> nature magic -> green. You know :)

i kinda dig the look of it TBH, but it all depends on how the texture appears in game. But everyone saying it looks like that epidermis skin but i dont really see it. This one looks pretty good.
I have to agree, I mean the colours are the same but the skin does have a different look to it.

Maybe it won't stand out as clearly vs others but I think it looks good.

Maybe they should add a "hide vampirism" in the Vampire skill tree, which would remove the skin effects. Or maybe this could be acquired through a quest as a toggle-able blessing from Clavicus Vile, pretty much in the same way as vampires from the Cyrodiil Vampyrum Order manage to hide their condition.
