Do you have feelings for your characters? Do you care for/respect/love them?

Well, I kind of care about lots of NPCs... So my characters are out of question, I know most of them as fingers on my hands. Some of them get more love, some less, but, well, most have their own background and reason to exist. Only one char exists for the sake of being a mule and I kind of feel sorry for him. Maybe I'll delete him soon, and if not, he is going to get some better destiny

P.S. And I think some people in this thread are somewhat confused about the meaning of love. In simple terms, love is giving your time and attention to something/somebody with certain emphatic context behind (sentimental or romantic context is a more conventional way). So yes, in these terms I love my characters as well as I love my hobbies and lots of other things. I would probably go as far as to remove any mention of any context, in my reasoning even giving your attention to something is a certain representation of love.

It’s sappy, and possibly a little weird, but I love my characters--especially my main character, whose backstory I’ve fleshed out more. They have their own temperaments and quirks, and I just like to imagine them all hanging out in my house when I’m not logged on, and doing their thing  I miss a toon if I haven’t played with them for a bit, and when I do, I greet them like greeting a friend. I’ve worked on their skills/gear/role, we’ve been on a lot of adventures, and I have spent so much time with them, that I’m absurdly fond of them, and would miss them dearly if the game was ever to come to a close :pensive:

Actually, as far as my senche tiger mount, Sentinel, I'd say I love him. Same with my housecat, Spirit - she's something special. Nothing with any other pets though, except maybe my imgakin monkey, who I have an unnatural spite toward...

It depends on the character for me. I'm an RPer and get attached to my characters. I enjoy their stories and how interactions with others dynamically change their lives and outlooks. I enjoy the creative process with them.

I also enjoy when it is time to retire or kill them off, and try to make sure it is a meaningful, appropriate, and satisfying end to their story.

I guess I do respect them in that way.

I mean, I had this happen already since I played Star Wars Galaxies for years and then it was shut down. I still have some nostalgia for that game and the memories/friends I made there, but I don't miss my actual characters.

I just transplanted those characters to other universes. I have four characters in particular that I recreate in every MMO I've ever played.

I never really lose the characters, cause those are my creations--their personalities and appearances and etc. My main is a Breton vampire and was once a Sith pureblood in SWTOR, and before that she was a blood elf in WoW, and before that she was a Vanir in Age of Conan, and before that was a human dark jedi in SWG. The setting and aesthetics change but the core stays the same and that makes me happy.

My characters are never lost, they simply change....venue.

Right now, I have 3 characters I would not be happy about losing at this point. My top 2, and my newest and unlisted character who is a drunken zombie wood elf stam sorc and completely hilarious to play.

Most of my characters I keep for just in case I feel like playing some other way. Never really happens though.

They puppets playing different roles, but same as @Tasear stated, they embody parts of me.

Delora Xiaphia is my main, she's my curiosity and will to explore and learn new things. Her looks also change every few days, she isn't stale, she's changing and evolving.

Ugrim gro-Khar is the anger I overcome and maned to keep in check for many years.

    Bellatrix Lealiena, my darkest thoughts.

    Fjorik Firebeard, my depression

    Ophelia Adele Maris, self-pride

    Drinks-in-Silence, my apparent calm.

Floriancen Larethian, a melancholic warrior, but also my love for a certain band.

Zahir at Unar, my motivation, my goals.

If I care for them? Depends on how you put it. I don't want to delete any of them to make space for a new character, but I don't have the same kind of feelings I have for a real person. They are the toys I don't want to give away, but it won't be the end of the world if I lose them.

All my toons I dress the same, similar hairstyle, etc with little variation - and with a pretty practical vibe. I don’t speak on voice comms with some quasi Renfes accent or behave in a contrived way. My personality isn’t something I feel the need to escape or experience another variation of.

Tamriel is just another place for me to be. It is an extension, if you will.

I felt really bad about deleting my original stamsorc, a Khajiit. He had a nice holiday and is now much happier as a Warden... fortunately I had a screenshot of him so it was easy to recreate him, and I'm glad I could do so. As an answer to one of OP's questions, I don't like deleting characters, which is partly to do with how much effort is required to level them and how much I grow attached to them in the process of levelling them. If I was going to delete any of my 10 EU toons now it would probably be my Dark Elf magDK but even then I'd probably buy another slot instead.

I don't create backstories for all my characters; my overarching story is that my main has adopted all the other toons into her "family" and now takes care of them by providing nicely decorated houses and any armour/consumables needs etc.

like, not romantically or anything. i have a dude i respect quite a bit.

he's a priest of Stendarr, and he really sticks to his principles. i was chasing the Covenant Hero achievement, and i was really close to getting it, but he had to abandon a quest that would have had him making a deal with a Daedra. it was hard to find another one. he's also a huge patriot, which i think is interesting, (because i love my country but not my government,) and he can make sacrifices that i wouldn't be able to make. sometimes i learn from him too, because as a Stendarr devotee he's obligated to help people who ask him when's capable, which can be very inconvenient for me.

i have another guy who's just selfish, wretched, and foul. the way he acts is just deplorable. he'll go to any length to amass power, and also manipulates people sometimes just to amuse himself. if i didn't know he was just a videogame character i think i'd have a healthy fear of him.

I do get somewhat attached to my characters in general, not in the way I would care for a real person by any means, but like a fictional character you may be particularly fond of. I do spend hours and hours playing them after all.

I've found I am a little less attached to my ESO character than I was to my other single-player RPG characters. I guess it's because of the differences between MMOs and SP games.

    Probably my tank/healer/nightblade.

Two I made because of friends (tank + nightblade) healer was a side project that turned me into a main healer pve and that was mostly for me having a secondary character to run trials with too.

As my characters are simply extensions of my psyche, I neither love nor hate them. I simply accept them as they turn out to be as I play through the choices offered to them, much as in R/L.

It is somewhat easy to find out, if you care - think about what you would do, if you would have to delete one of your characters in order to make room for a new one?- If you have an easy time, selecting one, you don't care about that character but just about your overall gameplay. 'If you, on the other side, have a problem to select one for termination, you definitely care, and if you are unable to terminate that character or cannot choose one at all, you are definitely attached to that character enough to treat him/her/it like it would be a sentient lifeform - and most likely it somewhat is, because you are likely to be a role player.

I am definitely attached to my 14 characters enough to not want to terminate them - they are nothing special, objectively evaluated, but they are special to me, I like all their quirks and flaws - so in a way, it is more than just pure attachment.

    Dehyesha, the Khajiit Sorceress...

She's gone through two different characters and several appearance changes over the course of my playing ESO. At first she was your standard Tigress, however badly built cause I was still learning the game. I unfortunately deleted her thinking it was too much of a hassle to go back reworking everything. I then recreated her again and did everything right, the completionist way. She's gone from a Tigress, to a White Tigress, to a Snow Leopard, but she'll always be magical Dehya.

...except since I actually recently respecced her into a Stamina Sorc.

I also love my StamBlade, Katt. That beautiful black furred thing with her white tummy and her pension to stab things. Just wanna scratch her ears.
