Non-tanks who taunt in dungeons: solutions?

What do you do with these players?

I thought people were exaggerating when they told stories about DPS running about with swords and shields using Puncture on everything... but I just ran a couple PUG dungeons where exactly that happened. I asked one of them if he wanted to tank instead; he declined, but continued taunting everything. These pseudo-tanks were doing unhelpful stuff like pulling Sellistrix into the water and turning her to face the healer. The other DPS and the healer in both cases were solid, but if this had been a less experienced group, the dungeon would have fallen apart quickly.

Perhaps part of it is simply that they don't know what a taunt is or don't recognise that some skills taunt. It might help to make the tooltips on these skills clearer (e.g. red text that it's a tanking skill).

I would also love it if the game offered a really basic tutorial on roles that players had to do before queuing for dungeons.

Its already in place, but that stuff does not work on players that DONT read the tooltip.

tbh I just wish they would remove the 'pledges' and the group finder and all this drama goes away

No reward for random grouping in a random group area, and no-one will want to do it, so the issue solves itself

On my tank I have run into HA'ing frost staff dps....quite a few times, most are wardens that can quasi tank and can handle whatever they pull, but I did run into one guy that was using frost staff qued as a healer and had no heals and was all its normal we don't need a tank or healer....except it was low level toons that certainly needed a tank and healer. once he died from the aggro he pulled i'd gather the rest and let the dps do what they do. Lvl 20 peeps dont have as many skills and mobs running all over makes things take longer.

Tonight was the first time i ran into a taunting sword and board DPS that jumped into every fight before anyone else was in the room. I think he queued as all 3 to get in pledge quicker, he was templar, and had no trouble with any aggro, and threw just as many heals as the healer that kept DC'ing. Great while in fight but must have dropped 3 times.

I /sitchair and watch them get killed by the adds then get up and tank everything properly.

Do what I do. Threaten to leave group (if you're a tank) and tell them they could sit and wait 20 minutes for another tank to show up. Meanwhile you can easily join absolutely any dungeon (as a tank) in under a minute.

1. Inform them they don't need to aggro boss.
2. If non-tank taunting persists, Ask if they know the role of the Tank. If not, explain.
3. Ask if they know Ice Stave heavy taunts target.
4. If they continue to aggro boss and keep dead-ing, don't rush to rez them because I am swole enough to carry 2 others through almost all Non-Vet dungs (results of Non-Vet DLC dungs may vary based on rest of team swoleness.)

1. Hasn't actually happened for me yet. Have no contingency plan for if it does, but I like the cut of VilniusNastavnik's jib on this one!

Never saw even a single player who taunt and didn't pick tank role. Well, except me Our tank decided to leave the group for playerunknown reason at the end of vet Fungal 2. So i equiped Chudan for 25k resists, Inner rage and start pull her out of circles as usual.

I have run with someone who was trying to level s/b for completion's sake and didn't actually know that the first skill was a taunt because they were not paying attention to the skill tooltips at all.

I explained to them what they were doing and asked them to stop using the skill so that I could tank, they did, everything went fine after that. If they had refused for some bizarre reason, I would have wished them luck tanking and swapped into my DPS gear.

i have given up with pugs and cant allways get guildes to do wgt for the healing sets , would be nice if we could hire mercs/henchies instead of players .

For me, if its non-vet, I just put on some dps gear and let the wannabe tank do his thing. Most of these dungeons are soloable even with a small assortment of skills.

If non-dlc vet, it depends on the situation:

- If its a dps with SnB, I usually just leave.
- If its a dps/healer with ice staff, I ask it they have the tri-focus passive. If they do, I tell them if they taunt it, they get to tank it, and if their taunting causes unnecessary deaths (other then theirs), they will get kicked.

For dlc vet, first I try not to pug those.

My principle is simple: you aggro it, you tank it. If you get rekt I'll give you a nice T-bag.

nothing grinds my gears more than when i am the tank on my stamplar or ice warden and some ding *** with a sword and shield or a frost staff starts taunting enemies.
when it happens i just perma block because i can handle taking the hits, and i watch the ding *** die.
i then tank the critters properly and refuse to revive the ding ***.
i poiltely say in group chat:
“you taunt it, you tank it”

that usually fixes the problem.

I stopped caring entirely at this point.
Tooltip states what does what and people choose to ignore them, why should I waste my breathe?
After everything is said and done, if we wipe more than three times because of them, I'll vote kick. If it fails, I drop group.

Pretty much the only time I ever had this issue went the same way. I explained to the other player that they were taunting mobs away from me and they switched the skill out immediately.

The biggest issue is a UI issue. It's not innutive to have frost staff taunting on that destro staff. Maybe would help with with people with shield and sword to have categories named tanking but then again isn't there an icon on tooltip?

How was their DPS on point enough with S&B to have lasted to the end boss in the first place? That's a first-trash-pull level correction.

Beyond that, stand back and let them melt a couple times. Further still, Sellistrix screams at random group member anyway, so for most instances, this shouldn't have mattered.

Also, what level was he? High enough to know better, I'm assuming?

Yep, let them die. You taunt it, you tank it.

But it can be hilarious in groups with friends. Like that one time when my healer slotted Inner Rage instead of Ele Drain. In vAS. And kept on screaming at me why don't I taunt the boss...

Ask them to stop. If you can figure out who it is address them directly. Maybe throw in a hint that ice staves taunt because that's usually the issue. Works better than a generic "stop taunting". I guess most people who taunt don't know they do or have no idea it causes immunity (which is an odd concept anyway).
