Don't like 20% discount on crowns?

Mavloc
Mavloc

After the sale ends, Zenimax will release all their limited time stuff again for 1 day only, and then everyone complaining about that 20% discount are going to be begging for Zenimax to grace them with a second chance at a 20% discount, while they splurge all their savings on full priced crowns.
Then no one will dare make a peep the next time a 20% discount comes around

It baffles me how anyone would have expected anything different from this company.

The OP is describing a common marketing strategy - while there isn't direct evidence we do know that some highly desirable items have been in the game files for up to a year. The best way to make players accept worse value sales is to make them really want items only available with crowns. I strongly suspect we will see some impressive crown store showcases soon.

Honestly, zos marketing is usually really basic. At the moment crowns on sale cost exactly what full price crowns would have cost me before they put the prices up... they have created the illusion of better value while charging what they were charging before. I am genuinely a bit offended by how simplistically they try to manipulate their community to give them money.

I must be missing something. It seems you are all complaining that the Crowns are on sale, and that after they go off sale they will add things to the Crown Store. Buy the Crowns now and then buy what you want later on.

If you people have your tinfoil hats on so tight and feel ZOS is out to get you and is so horrible why are you still here? If ZOS has impacted your life so much your life has turned to crying about a discount it might be time to hang up the keyboard and mouse.

Let me guess you dont even play anymore and are just desperate for attention and upvotes.

You people wanted a no sub required f2p/B2P game. This is exactly what you get.

And no WoW doesnt have the level of micro transactions this game has.

Who exactly are "you people"? ... because I know I sure didn't.

I pay a sub fee, and for that fee I expect to get access to all the game has to offer. I don't mind the odd thing in a cash shop, but this game is starting to feel like I need to pay a sub AND regularly buy crowns if I want anything above a bland experience.

Yes, I realize that I get 1500 crowns with my sub each month, but that 1500 hasn't increased to keep pace with the prices in the crown shop. It buys me less and less as time goes by.

Won't matter to me. I have sworn off ever buying ANYTHING in the store that is offered for a limited time only.

Actually, with the way things have been going with the F2P monetization in the game since Homestead dropped coupled with the absolutely absurd prices on some things (houses and outfit slots come immediately to mind), I have just about sworn off the Crown Store for good.

    Or....

don't buy extra Crowns and don't buy anything from the store outside of DLC (if your not ESO+). Then maybe ZoS will start coming down to the Planet Earth with everything going on with the store.

THIS! I even spend out on crowns - but this 'sale' is just crap IMO because prices have gone WAY UP of items, but crown sale is 20% instead of 50%? Keep your reskins. w/e.

    I need nothing that badly

How is it a tinfoil hat issue for pointing out an abusive pricing and marketing strategy, it's not like it's illegal, but it's a poor business practice and leaves customers feeling taken advantage of. I sub, I dropped $300 at Christmas to stock up on crowns and I enjoy the game immensely, but the pricing and OBVIOUS marketing tactics leave me feeling taken advantage of. The prices on items are high, when purchased with discounted crowns they are still on the high side, but are in line with some other games out there, right now the only game I can think of that has similarly abusive pricing would be Daum with BDO, which I did abandon because of how they exploited their player base.

Increase Crown Store costs/Devalue currency -> throw on a “20% sale” -> have customers feel like they’re getting a bargain

Can’t say I’m surprised but it feels so dirty. As far as I’m concerned I will never use the Crown Store ever again.....
..... unless there is a 50% sale ofc.

Until then it is impossible for me to care about any cosmetic stuff they sell.

You do realize that if you encourage people to buy from the 20% off sales and ZOS makes tons of money, we'll never see a 40% off sale ever again, right? Maybe you should think about the big picture instead of criticizing people for not being terribly happy about a 20% sale.

You know @Vaoh , I love ZoS and ESO . ZoS does a lot of awesome things for players all the time . They are very generous and helpful . I have nothing against ZoS making a profit . At all . Just like you wrote though , this "feels dirty" lol is exactly spot on and to me feels like someone different then ZoS runs marketing . Like their marketing department is run by some side department not even affiliated with any of the creative side . Just my opinion though . Still will buy things when a better bargain is presented but it's a definite pass on this sale lol . Anyways I have ESO plus so no worries .

Crowns were on sale, I bought them having ESO Plus as well, no problem. They were cheaper.

You spend 5 bucks on something that lasts a few minutes (candy, sweets, soda, whatever) or you can spend it on something that is bound to your account and will last for as long as you play the game (costumes, emotes et al.).

No one is forcing anyone to buy anything, so what are the complaints about again? ESO Plus is voluntary. Nothing in the Crown Store impacts gameplay anyhow, it's just cosmetics (and that is great that it's not P2W).

I pay for this game because I like and enjoy it and wish to support development so all those who just complain instead of pitching in can enjoy it too <3

I pay for this game and enjoy it too. I have ESO+ and I have bought the CE edition of every chapter and DLC that has come out because I want to support the game. (So yes, ZOS got double my money because I both paid for DLC AND have ESO+ and I am fine with that.)

I am not averse to companies making money and realise that ZOS needs to too. AND I don't want to support greedy marketing practices where items are a gamble to get and crowns are on so-called "sales" that are not really sales. So I vote with my wallet and do not buy.

I also am adding my voice to the protests against these practices in the hope that ZOS will hear us. Because the more that protest the more chance there is things will change these marketing practices that so many do not like. I do not want to be one of the crowd that just accepts change for the sake of change, just because I love the game, especially not if I feel it is to the detriment of the game that I love so much. I want to continue playing this game for the foreseeable future and I do believe that if ZOS continues on this path, it will have too much of a negative impact on players and the game itself.

From another perspective: If you just put 20% off instead of 50%, you are offering a discount while at the same time not decreasing the value of crowns too much. We can not expect that prices and offers stay always the same, they have to re-evaluate and adjust according to the market.

Just because a small percentage of the community doesnt like crown store items, Doesnt mean there isnt a much larger community that does.

I buy crowns even when they arent on sale. Why? Because I support the game that I spend 80% of my free time on.

Limited time items are exactly what they are supposed to be. LIMITED. They are not meant for everyone to have. They are higher priced because they are USUALLY better looking, bigger, etc. Why would they charge the same price as basic items for stuff thats only meant to be bought by a fraction of the community.

Think about it like this...There is obviously a much larger portion of the community paying for these items than there are people complaining about it. Reason I say that is because they keep producing and selling these items and making the amount of revenue they expect off of it.

I have a friend that buys EVERY mount that comes out, Limited or not.

Im in a housing guild where people buy ALL of the limited time houses.

There are people who like having stuff that not everyone else has. They are willing to pay more for exclusives knowing that 50 other people they know dont have the same thing.

If you feel so wronged by the prices, Continue doing what you are doing and dont but anything. Nobody is forcing you. Its all purely for looks. A fancy mansion or mount doesnt give you any advantage, Other than looking better.

ZoS is plenty generous...Have any of you ever got FREE crowns because you answered a question they were asking about in game issues in a polite, reasonable manner? I have. They appreciate and respect people who dont belittle them and talk crazy when there is an issue. You are more likely to get a response when you are calm and willing to explain without being a jerk.

All in all - Crown purchases and Limited items will not be coming to a halt anytime in the near future. If you dont like it...Well you just dont like it. There are other games to play, Only issue is...I bet they all have stores too. And I bet the stuff in the store isnt always available in game.
