Fishing in Artaeum

I have fished in each of the fishing holes in Artaeum (some more than once) but still not caught one rare fish. I have been using simple bait as it is near impossible to get worms or chub on Summerset atm. I find that my return is about 7-9 used bait for each 15 cast hole. I think this is really high and, of course, only happens with simple bait. I have fished nearly all the waters (in 2 of the 3 alliances) in the live game, and got quite a few of the achievements but never with simple bait, so cannot compare if this is as it should be. Is this only happening in Summerset, or is this how the live game works too? Have I no hope of catching rare fish with simple bait? If so, then the help/information should state this. I understand that it might still be necessary to buy simple bait if all you want is fish for provisioning, but I think it should say that this is not the ideal bait for rare fish (or something like that).

hey hope you could answer this on the topic of artaeum does this zone spawn mats.

i see now that it has fishing holes does that mean it has its own trophy fish or is it shared with summerset ones?

My experience with fishing is that you usually don't get rare fish if you aren't using the 'ideal' bait for the water type. So Crawlers for Foul water and so on. I don't believe Simple Bait is ideal for any existing water types, so your results sound normal to me.

thank you for your replies. so basically i cannot get any rare fish in artaeum (or summerset ocean) as i cannot spend the week finding enough worms before the server is wiped again. i am assuming this is not something that the devs want tested! there is no problem getting other bait , crawlers, insects, guts, as with the live game - i just wish there was some way of testing this aspect.

I had a stack of worms in my inventory on the PTS, so I decided to test for you in Artaeum.

In 100 worms, I got:
38 Dhulfish
38 Salmon
Minnows
5 Weaving Octopus (green rare fish)
1 Abyssal Sea Pig (green rare fish)
3 Waterlogged Psijic Parcel (blue quality)

The Parcels were blue quality and contained 2 Laurel, a gold quality waterstained psijic recipe, Oru rune, lion fang style mat, and a purple waterlogged psijic recipe.

Gold recipe: Max Health, health recovery, Max Stam, stam recovery
Purple recipe: max Health, Max magicka, additionally fish may be drawn to you (I have no idea what that means)

So the rare fish do drop in Artaeum. Waterlogged Psijic parcels are much better than Wet Gunny sacks.

Thank you so much Varanis, that is very helpful! It would appear that you didnt catch a Pearlescent crayfish, which I assume must be a blue quality. This would be in keeping with fishing in the live game as I find I need more than 100 bait anywhere to complete getting the 3 fish at each location. I think you might have made a mistake with Salmon as those are river fish - but then maybe that is a bug!! I am assuming you meant Longfin.
Also I havent gotten a waterlogged Psijic parcel yet anywhere else in Summerset so wonder if that is just an Artaeum thing.

The gold recipe: Water-stained Psijic Recipe is a food recipe. It gives Max Health 3724, Health Recovery 351, Max Stamina 3458 and Stam Recovery 319 for 2 hours. Ingredients: 20 Fish, 5 Melon, 5 Torchbug Thorax, 5 Powdered Mother of Pearl

The Purple recipe: Waterlogged Psijic Recipe was also a food recipe. It gives Max Health 5054 and Max Magicka 4575 for 2 hours. Additionally, fish may be drawn to you. Ingredients: 5 fish, 3 rice, 3 Clam Gall, 3 honey.

Both recipes were bound to me, which is kind of a shame, since it would be nice to trade them. I also dont have the Clam Gall to test the "fish are drawn to you" effect.

Unfortunately, I can't. I didn't get the Clam Gall needed before the server went down, and the template character I made for EU doesnt (to my knowledge) have access to that recipe or worms so I could fish for it.

Just in case anyone in this thread hasn't gotten it, the purple psijic recipe only works when 2, and only 2, people are fishing in a hole. It gives a pretty decent chance to catch double fish without taking up 2 of the 15 'catches' available in a fishing hole. Be careful of trolls roaming the wilds. They'll come up and pop into a fishing hole to add a third person, making the food pointless.

Two things to note: this is a PTS thread (not live), and the food bug has been fixed on PC live v4.0.7 (but possibly not on console) - so no more double fish:

Fixed an issue that caused the Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl to double the number of fish you receive under certain circumstances. The intended effect is that this food increases your chances to acquire rare fish, similar to the bonus that occurs when another player is fishing from the same fishing hole.

As someone else pointed out, this has been fixed on Live for PC. The purple food now grants you an increased chance to get green and blue fish, identical to if you were fishing with another person. Its great if you want rare fish for achievements.=

Also, given that there's no visual indicator that you are using the food, no one is trolling you by becoming the 3rd person at a fishing hole. They may have accidentally made the (bugged) double drop of the food useless, but its not trolling. When I tested it on PC before the fix, there were a lot of people fishing in Summerset and very few of them that knew about the food or how exactly it worked.
