There are some nice mounts in the Crates, but I refuse to gamble. When I see something I want and I have the funds for it, I prefer to just, you know, buy it. Why should I spend money on crates when I know I wont get the thing I want, and instead will get a bunch of junk that I couldn't care less about. It's like going to a vending machine, putting your money in, and not being able to select what snack you want. You always hope for a treat like chips, or a candy bar, but instead you always get something boring like sunflower seeds.

Nope - if you own the pack, you can swap hairstyles and the like on the fly from your Collections menu, just like any other appearance-related item you might get from the Crown Store or from questing (that last one being super rare these days, but still).
