Yes. Always. How do you say no to free: Gold, CP, mats, and anniversary goodies?
But its not actually free. You have to spend resources to do the writs and if your doing multiple characters you burn a lot of resources. I think its around 40 refined resources per equipment writ. So you dont actually make that much off writs unless you get master writs to drop.

    With the surveys, you do.

One survey is worth more than 100 raw ressources.

Also note that shipments contain 25 refined materials related to the skill line with a random level between one and your craft level.
This means that if your blacksmith level is 1/10, you only need iron ingots and you get either a shipment containing 25 iron ingots or a survey.
For clothing, it's 50% jute / 50% rawhide (even if there are two quests requiring jute and one requiring rawhide, that's why jute is more expensive than iron ingots and rawhide).

Except with a survey you may get 1 today and 1 tomorrow and not get any for the next 10-15 times you do it. Surveys are more of a bonus rather a dependable method to sustain writs. The shipments you get are below your level so useless for doing writs on that character. Again you have a sustain problem. And if your going to do writs its better to do them at max level rather than keep low level crafters doing writs.

So my point still stands. For this event i would definitely do them but other than that i would do them as i have mats and not go out of my way to get mats otherwise you turn writs into a min wage job.

Right now you should be. Usually, I only do the daily crafting writs on my crafter.
However, during this event, all 5 of my characters are doing them. That's an easy 30 loot boxes alone.

I have been getting 7-9 motif pages a day! If my crafter doesn't need them, those always sell good at the trader.
Of course, now that I have said something, RNGesus will probably smite me...

It takes me about an hour to do writs on all 9 of my characters, so I only do them normally on my max crafters when there's not an event. I have only 4 max crafters, so that's more doable. I don't think I'd be able to sustain doing writs on 9 characters every day past the event. I would much rather be questing.

@Violynne are they always the same across all characters?
That, my apologies, I cannot answer.

I do my writs in a specific city. All my characters are "stationed" there.

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed all board writs were identical (except pots) so took advantage of this. :)

It depends on how you want to play the game and what time you have. While it is worth logging on to a main crafter with motif, recipe, crafting achievements, logging on to 5 toons to doing writs might not be what fits your enjoyment and time.

I prefer to spend my time in pvp, doing some vet dungeons. When im crafting or doing activities it to support the game play I do. So I do IC to get alchemy reagents (now i have top potions and poisons) and do something else to gold out weapons.

If its pve, do what you need for gear and potions

There are players attracted to crafting and playing the market to make gold. Logging on to 14 toons daily, gathering mats fits what they like. for me that feels more like work then relaxing from work

At very first event day I made sure to certify all my characters. Two crafters I already had, but for receiving quickly jubilee boxes every day I keep doing daily writs now with 9 characters. I don't have much time to complete dailies during the event, but 9 x 6 jubilee boxes per day is enough for me. :)

I agree they are worth it, but not as lucrative as some people have posted. The 3 weapon/armor ones do have a cost.

For instance you could sell the raw materials like Rubedite Ore for around 50g per piece. It takes around 50 Rubedite Ore to make the 40 Rubedite Ingots to complete the writ. So you are investing 2500g to do the writ at least.

You have around a 10-12% chance at a survey which will get you back 100 raw resources, or on average per writ around 10-12 back, so 500-600 back. In spite of surveys, I still need to farm mats regularly.

Also you have a chance at Master writs which can be sold for gold at around 1000g per voucher which also seems to be around a 10% chance for most people (some scaling based on motif knowledge etc..) and most are in the 2-7 voucher range so on average around 200-700 gold back from selling those.

Of course you will get Tempers from those surveys too. About a 4% chance of that happening per 10 raw materials, so for the 100 per survey it would be 10 chances at getting that Temper. Those are worth around 7k each, but you aren't going to be getting them very often just from bonus Surveys.

Anyway my point is that there is a cost to doing writs everyday and it isn't inconsequential. I would say you make overall 2500-3000 per writ, per character, per day.

Tiers 1, 2, 3 of provisioning do indeed call for different recipes depending on alliance, although as of Clockwork City, those can be turned in any provincial capital. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Provisioner_Writ. That's why I don't bother them at those low tiers, it's very complicated. I 14 out of my 15 characters stationed in the same city, because I've determined it's one of the locations with the most favorable trip times between bank, enchanting station, gear crafting stations and turn in point. 10 of those have been doing the writs since January, and I have leveled 2 more to 50 during the current event. Those will start doing writs themselves fast, probably not in time for the reward boxes, but the impact is negligible, since I've gotten hundreds of motif pages, and I've managed to complete Worm Cult already with another week to go.

I actually only do the 150 mats on one character and then the minimum level for all other characters.

You will (if not farming) only lose 2 mats per job (takes approximately 27 jute for example and they give you 25 when you turn it in)

Meaning a single stack of lowest level (jute, iron, rawhide and maple) will last 100 jobs (also cheap af)

These pay the same as the high level mats - just no writs.

    It's highly profitable

A nice thing about this event is that I managed to sell all my low level materials at much better prices that I would have, most of those being at or only slightly higher than the vendor price. Writs give you a box of 25 refined when you don't get a survey so I had quite a few in the craft bag. For example I've managed to sell 12-15 stacks of jute at 2K gold each, when it would have been about 800 (vendor price) before the event.

Yes but this require you to use a lot of skill points. Now if you have an retired character you can make him an dedicated crafter.

Actually it does not. Unless you are chasing Master Writs, you can do Tier 1 Crafting writs on a max level character and get all the gold and most of the benefits of max Tier writs. And you get most of your mats back. 0 Skill Points invested.

Daily writs are very lucrative and worth doing in general. Only caveat is they can take considerable amount of gaming time. With 14 chars it takes about 1.5 hours just to do them and that includes stocking up what I can and using addons to give a helping hand.

A few things I do in order to save time:
    - I craft potions/poisons and food/drink in batches of 100 and stack them in bank just to pick up when needed
    - I buy refined materials in stacks at steep discounts from more remote guild kiosks, until I have about 10K of each
    - I keep surveys for a long time, until I have multiple stacks of each so I can collect them more efficiently
