I would just like to know why.

For what it's worth, the current issues with the European servers are due to a problem with a major ISP in EU. It should be clearing up soon, if not already, though.

    Hey @ohaphazardo,

You can check the Dev Tracker for updates on things like outages and downtimes. A lot of times you'll find explanations for what's going on, as with this post:

You want ZOS to compensate you when an EU ISP has gone down which caused the issue?

Last time i checked the ISP is nothing to do with ZeniMax. They're not happy there's an issue either.

The issues are because of a major ISP, not something in their control, what exactly do you want them to apologize for? I’m curious...

Can someone please explain what today's additional maintenance had to do with the ISP issues? I'm not into that server stuff, so I might miss something. Does every blackout require a server maint or was it for a different issue?

That maintenance was announced after all the hassles we had with the server; lags, drops to load screen, etc., and before the ISP issue compounded the situation.

this thread is starting to feel a lot more like a "I deserve free stuff because ESO was down" thread than a "I want an explanation of why we're having server issues" thread.

Your comments do not show up in that tracker @ZOS_Edward, should they?
(More specific, this post didn't show up.)

Seriously, 1 mention of recompense in a thread shouldn't make feel a lot more like a "I deserve free stuff because ESO was down" thread than a "I want an explanation of why we're having server issues" thread.
Unless that's the OP, which is not the case here. Most of us posting would like to know why, that's all.

    I'm confused, it was OP.

OP wanted an explanation. OP got an explanation and transitioned straight into wanting compensation.

Edit: I may not be using OP correctly. Basically person makes thread to ask for explanation, they get an explination and complain they did not get compensation.

    Hey @Sordidfairytale,

They appear there on a post-by-post basis. That information is already available in the Dev Tracker so I didn't think it was necessary to have it show up again.

I only got to play for ten minutes the other night and they shut the servers down. Granted they were back up again about an hour and a half later, but some of us have families and jobs and a need for sleep. I missed all my dailies because of it. A free jewelry box would be nice. Not saying its necessary, just nice. And nice can go a long way sometimes.

OP wanted explanation or apology in the first post, OP got an explanation for ONE of the issues, which was not related to the frequent maintenance.

I hadn't noticed that it was the OP who mentioned recompense in a later post, so I apologise to you for my comment.

But still no explanation has been presented for the causes of the problems requiring the maintenance.

Whatever is happening in the NA server seems identical to what was happening on the EU server. I'd consider yourself lucky they actually took the server down for maintenance and fixed the issue instead of just wishing you the best of luck, linking you the support page, and passing your request on to the Mage's Guild.

They took the server down and fixed the issue 4 times in less than a week. :|

I was NOT asking for recompense, I was sad that neither an apology or recompense, would be OFFERED.
If I make a mistake, I apologize, it is the decent thing to do. Further, if my mistake has cost someone, I will reimburse them.
I choose to make that decision.
    Zos NEVER do.
Zos_Edward, would it have hurt you to say "sorry for all the down-time"?
Maybe this is a cultural thing but from my little bit of the world Zos and its representatives come across as utterly arrogant and smug.

Where did you get "power failure" from? That wasn't mentioned in the post.
A power failure three days in a row, at a major ISP?

Yes. When setting up a product that is sold to people worldwide, I would expect them to undertake a risk assessment that should and probably did; foresee this type of problem. The remediation plan appears to have acknowledged that any risk from player backlash was LOW.

    No worries.

Also just to be clear, I think it would be great if ZOS gave the UK servers and extra day or two for the event. I'm just a little defensive about how the topic is being handled by players on the forums. (also bored at work)

For anybody able to actually read the article.... the breakdown at DE-CIX happened on Monday evening, and everything was restored by Tuesday morning.

This doesn't explain AT ALL why the EU server happened to goes down on Tuesday evening.

Furthermore, if the issue was solely related to an ISP breakdown, why would ZOS actually bring the server down for maintenance ??

The responses on this thread are dubious at best, and Gina's replies or official notice NEVER explicitly mentioned that the issue was caused by the ISP provider...
