I wouldn't jump through hoops for it. During the times I had emp, I just happened to be really into AvA and playing a lot.

Now, I would describe myself as an ultra-casual PVP player, so I definitely wouldn't bother.

Yes. I slept like a rock after dethrones though. One night I went to bed assuming I’d be dethroned when I woke but found some guildies doing their darndest the next morning to save it. I had so much fun with them and I appreciated all the groups and help. From guildies to solo players to PUGs.

I'm not daft enough to do anything in a game I don't enjoy for a simple title/dye...

Soo, although I've put exactly 0 time and effort into getting emperor, and haven't even got it yet!! I have enjoyed that time immensely, so it absolutely WAS worth that time and effort!

All too often in MMO's people lose sight of the fact that simply enjoying playing the game is a lot more fun than getting a fleeting, pixel 'reward'.

Yeah... I think a lot of oldschool MMO players have been through it already, so are less affected, but this game had a lot of MMO noobies who are maturing as players and now in the time urgent, efficiency over fun stage.

Last time I had emp there was permanent buffs and passives for having former emp. So at the time it was 100% worth it.

Yes, it was worth the time and effort because I had theorycrafted a good reason to get it each time.

In my opinion it is not worth spending your time getting emperor for a dye or costume etc. Heck, I have deleted former emperor toons before. It is also not worth spending your time to get emperor on any old build. I have never bothered pushing for emperor without having something brokenly overpowered in mind, it's the only reason I have done it, and for me the only thing that makes it worth it.

When Blazing shield was OP, it was worth spending the time min/maxing very high health as emperor. When destro ult was OP, it was worth spending the time getting emperor on a build using destro ult. When a set comes out that has a very large amount of stam/magicka etc on it, it is worth spending the time getting emperor. When a new class comes out with crazy ult generation and an aoe ability that can 1 shot people, it is worth trying to become the world first emperor on that class. When you have an overpowered build that can tank large amounts of people and 1 shot them with a broken armor set, then it is worth going for emperor. When vigor was added to the game and TTK was really low, it was worth getting emperor. When prox det was added to the game, it was worth earning a couple of million AP unlocking prox det without going past level 27 and one shotting everyone on blackwater blade who had never seen it before.

Another thing about emperor is you need to think about how it will synergize with a group if you are going to be in a group. Chances are it is most likely you will be in a group defending final emp keep etc. For example in group PvP it is useless if you are a tanky emperor because your group will die and you will survive and at that point you may as well be a solo emperor or not even emperor at all. So you kinda gotta keep this in mind when asking yourself is it worth getting emperor or not. I also theorycraft builds based on fighting on the back flag, as this is pretty much where every emperor ends up in the end.

My first emperorship was the hardest to get and I failed the first time. I played everyday for a whole 30 day thornblade campaign and finished 2nd, I was solo competing against DiE who filled the whole top 10 lol. I ended up having to play every day for the first 15 days of the following campaign to actually get it, a lot of the people I played with had quit ESO so i didn't have the normal guild power to back me up.

I also failed my first attempt on blackwater blade against purus (was first time we met). We were both going flat out for 7 days and we had like 7 times more AP than 3rd place and I think we were setting a new record for the most AP earned on BWB at the time lol. I slacked off on the 7th day as I didn't think AD would be able to crown emp, after failing the past 6 days. They ended up taking the inner ring with a few hours left in the campaign and purus got it. I didn't mind too much coz I was having fun anyway, I kinda didn't even need emperor, I was running level 30 thunderous armor on a sap tank with dynamic regen and was wiping groups of enemies without emp lol.

TLDR; not worth pushing for emperor unless there is something overpowered in the game that scales well with emperor.

Oh, and also worth noting emperor has been indirectly nerfed a lot.

There is a correlation between Emperor and 1vXing. The more 1vX'ing has been nerfed each patch, the more useless emperors have become.

Ive only gotten it once and it was by sheer luck lol. The warden class just came out and I had just rolled a baby magden (N'wahrden of the North) and I had popped into lowbie pvp to just play around and learn the class and realised I was in 1st place so naturally I pushed for it there and then.

I was running around as emp on this brand spanking new class not really knowing what I was doing lol. Lots of birds were flung, many trees were grown and much fun was had holding the final emp keep (Aleswell) but I just went to bed after like 7 hours of emp and this here trash emp was dethroned whilst asleep.

Would I do it on Vivec? Nope ^_~ I love my sleep waaaay too much!

Took me three tries. Scummy boosters stole it the first two times. It was absolutely worth it the third time. The first two times nearly made me quit the game because of the fact that developers allow this exploitation to occur and there's no remedy available for getting cheated by scumbags.

    Never got it......

But had the chance of getting it back when Spellbreaker/Spellbeaker? campaign existed. Was like 100k AP behind #1 in our faction......it was back when I just started to play PvP and now when looking back I feel almost ashamed for not going for emperor.

It was less than 24 hours from reset so I was lucky I was able to get to first place and maintain then had the support to get it done.

I had been awake for 36 hours (worked the day before reset) and I was numb with fatigue after I got it. I slept for 10 hours afterward and still felt tired.

How was your journey? Or your attempt to get the crown?

And in hindsight, do you feel it was worth your time and effort to get Emperor?

Worth it ... Yes .. and here is why

Friends on opposing factions cane out to put up a fight do it was fun ...

Friends I'd made in game stuck by my side fir the majority of the time ... A few guild members who I thought were friends unfriended me, kicked me from the guild cos I refused to remove friends who had played over 12 hours with me so that it would be a guild group only at the final emp push ... The group wasn't even full

So yes worth it ... I learned who my real friends were that day

I did it on a dead campaign, took a few days as it was a "become emp, vacate" thing with my faction.

I sometimes use the dye, I never use the title or costume. I mostly did it because I wanted to clear the achievement without the grind on a main campaign.

Never will have Emperor and likely never will. Why? I don't have the patience. I have the time, but I don't think that even the dye or costume is worth it. Those are the only reasons why I would want it.

    Here’s a story from an almost-emperor:

I rolled a stam warden for group PvP, and the last thing I needed to have all my passives was Assault/Support 10. So I decided to farm the heck out AP just to get it done and over with. This just so happened to be on reset day, and before I knew it, I was #1(PC NA Vivec).

At this point, I decided to go for it. I stayed at the top for a solid week while having every push thwarted within seconds of coronation. After that week, it was time for me to go back to work, and I fell down the leaderboard having never been crowned.

The support that I had from my faction was astounding and honestly surprised me. I ended up making a lot of friends during that week, both in my own faction and the other factions, who were rooting for me, all the while, not making it easy for me.

So was the experience worth it? Absolutely.
Do I want to spend that much time doing it again? Nah, probably not.

I think it was worth it the first few times I did it. I was like Stalker where I had pushed in nonvet. I did the same thing to push for emp when new mechanics came out - things like proxy det, new sets, eye of the storm, warden, etc.

I haven't pushed for emp on my stamwarden yet. I don't know that I'll have the time or that I'd care to. I've never been a person willing to compromise on quality of life to push emp and it hasn't been difficult for any of the 12 characters I've gotten to the throne. I just had time off, played during the day, slept normally unless I actually was emp and defending my title. I've been second in Shor, but I just had a lot of time off because of inclement weather so I stayed inside and played - never really worried much about pushing, but figured I'd ask the #1 who had already been emp if they'd consider dropping.

Otherwise, new hobbies are taking up my free time.

If it's fun to push--you have a good social structure and support around it, doesn't negatively affect you IRL--it's absolutely worth it.

If the push itself isn't fun (i.e., you will be mad if you don't end up getting it) then I wouldn't recommend it.

If history repeats itself, there will be a ton of opportunities to get easy PvDoor emps after Midyear Mayhem.

I played non stop for emperor. It took me perhaps 3 days of constant play and no sleep. This was back when there were more players, so it was harder to obtain emperorship. The guilds I were in declined to help me with obtaining emp, so nearly solo'd all of my run. Random guilds in the campaign were more willing to help me during the last couple days. Made a few friends because of it.

It was an exhausting experience, but I really wanted that costume. The title is nice as well, but there's no other benefits to being a former emp.

In end, it was a cool experience.
But I would never do it again.

I Emp'd for the first time several months ago. A couple RL friends and I decided that we were going to make the push and one of us was going to try and get it. The campaign reset was around 1 a.m. CST. So in preparation for staying up for a long time, I slept from 4 p.m. cst to about 6 p.m. cst. As soon as the campaign reset we flipped a ton of resources and keeps as quickly as we could. The servers came down for maintenance at 3 a.m. CST. When they came down, we were second third and fourth on the leaderboards. We decided to try and get some sleep while the servers were down, that lasted for a couple hours and the servers came up at around 6 a.m. CST. We pushed more resources, keeps and general PvP. By around 7:30 a.m. CST we tried to push Emp since we were now first second and third on the leaderboards. We had five of the six Emp keeps and on the sixth we got wiped and at the same time we lost one of the Emp keeps we controlled.

After our first push failed we decided to grind more AP since others were catching up to us on the leaderboards. At around 10 a.m. CST we decided to make another push, by this time we had invited various PUGs to our group. We finally captured the sixth and final Emp keep a little before 11 a.m. CST. I was crowned Emperor and I stayed up during my entire Emperorship which lasted around eight hours. Throughout the day we were pushed by the other two factions but we were able to quikcly respond and defend our keeps. Around 5:30 p.m. CST the server population for our campaign was really filling up and by 7ish we were being pushed hard by the other two factions. I was finally dethroned. Once dethroned I crashed for about 12 hours.

All-in-all it was super fun, especially since there were a couple of us that were working together. It was a grueling endeavor and looking at some other stories I couldn't imagine doing the AP grind for a couple days. However, being Emperor with the right build is like being a god on the battlefield. Definitely wouldn't trade the experience.

However what was a shame was at the same time some alliance switch, AP boosting cheats pushed for it next. It tainted things to see how others are in getting emp / dealing legit effort

Almost got it in Feb 2015. All that was lacking was faction numbers and coordination. So, in terms of being in "first place" for days, I've done that.

I wasn't trying to be in first, though. DC was begging on the forums for people to roll a character in their faction because their population seemed to be consistently low. My second made, unused toon was a Breton Sorcerer sitting at level 7. I had some time off, so I got it to 10 and leveled it through 50 in Cyrodiil. I joined for the last part of one 5-day campaign on what was then Blackwater Blade, was there for a full 5-day campaign, then part of the next. I was (close to?) top ten through that first partial campaign and #1 by a few miles for the full one I was a part of.

My first day in BB I was invited to a guild that only played in the under-50 campaign because I seemed to be doing really well. Back then stats were mostly equalized for under-50 so twink builds were harder to pull of and skill/choices mattered a little more. There were lots of new players, sure, but also plenty of experienced players looking for something they couldn't get on what were then referred to as Veteran campaigns.

That ten day period on BB (which is how long it took me to hit 50) was the most confident and "gud" I've ever been in ESO AvA. Nothing before or after comes close. I could start or respond to a one-on-one fight feeling that even if I didn't win I would still put up a good fight and had a chance to pull it off even if things started going bad. And group fights were even better.

I earned so much AP from having decent players to group with and also because I had time off and was having so much fun. It was a byproduct, not a goal.

It's kind of a shame to not get Emp as that was a one-time opportunity and I'm a bit of a completionist, but it was still a great time. I would love to have the achievement on a few characters but the game is different and I couldn't find the time to even try. If they ever change how Emp is achieved I might give it another look.

Depends on the campaign / competition though. While what you are saying is possible (actually more common now days sadly), it is also possible for a faction to go 2 months without being able to capture the inner ring and to have an opponent on the leader board that averages 60k+ AP/hr and goes without sleep for 48 hrs at a time. Seen both of those scenario's play out a few times over the years.
