Well that's a result of star wars fans being incapable of handling change. Star Wars 1,2&3 taught George Lucas not to take chances. The fans harassed a kid out of the movie industry.
So with the new films, they take no risks. Just build a bigger death star!
They don't have to go in depth with the lore, keep it simple and restrained, like focusing on a single guild or event for example. Too much action and flashy effects can destroy a movie, also those are expensive. They can keep the magic to a low, less effects, less money and can appeal to more people than gamers, like what Game of Thrones did compared with the books.
There are many stories that can be done right by the right mind, being it original or taken directly from the lore. The story of an assassin having to deal with a hard to reach target like a powerful crime lord, or the Thieves Guild planning a great heist, or maybe the story about the life of a soldier that get captured by the enemy, or survives an ambush and has to return to his people alone in the middle of the enemy territory. These are ideas that can avoid messing the lore up, which is messed up by its own anyway, and again, avoiding the use of magic to a certain level because not many movies manage to get it right and is easy to spoil everything because of it.
TES is not LotR. Immitating that success will only make it feel like a rehash of something better.
It needs to be it's own thing, and bring the strength of the lore to the medium, which I feel could only be handled by people who can tell ambiguous stories.
Basically, it would have to be Blade Runner 2049 on Nirn. Denis Villeneuve would be perfect. He's currently working on his Dune project, and TES is much closer to that world than LotR.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!? Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.
