Elder Scroll Movie Universe- What do you think about that
Firstly the main character is always bland and boring because they represent you and you can be anything. Self insert character.
Secondly the lore is strange... wonderfully strange.... but strange. Basically the lore took the idea that the world is inherently magical rather than being a world with magic in it.... if that makes sense. Trying to explain ESO lore is super hard try doing that quickly and simply in a visual way. It works great in game where you have little books lots of small conversations, half of which don't make sense or are contradictory. I really gives the idea that no one in world has any real idea of how everything works... (except Sotha Sil).
Sure layed on top of that we have fairly conventional fantasy themes of racial tensions, fallen empires and demonic interference. But to play on those leaves the lore empty and bland as the main character.
I'm not sure what they could use to connect a "cinematic universe" together. Best I can see is, for some reason, Divayth Fyr sharing different interesting and notable stories throughout the eras. But that would just be a "tales across Tamriel's history" series rather than a cinematic universe.
A simple fantasy story that the audience didn't need a crash course in ES Lore to understand and enjoy as a basic fantasy epic would work, but also lovingly detailed with ES content that the fans would recognise and enjoy.
....Of course, we are kinda talking about a video game movie adaptation (video game franchise, but close)... so.... ya know...
Don't do it. Video game movies are abysmal in nearly every case. Just look at the Assassins's Creed or the Warcraft movie. Both were a critical disaster and a box office failure.
Too big a production, better off doing a web-series like Machinima did with Mortal Kombat on Youtube, before they downsized everything and went to crap. That kind of production level with short 20 minute videos they can go all over the place without losing story or theme.
Would love to see it, depending on what era, storyline and hero they follow.
At the same time though if they do it wrong, it might diminish my love for the series like ESO has a bit. They let me down with ESO big time as a huge fan for a long time. I still played beta and came back at console release and play regularly. Still wish they would've done a better job making it a true Elder Scrolls Online experience.
The depth of lore and breadth of the setting could not be done justice in a movie setting. Movies tend to move quickly to keep the action and often character and setting development are left by the wayside. A resulting movie would come across as 'typical fantasy movie with nod to game by same name'... and that always sucks.
A TV series would allow the depth/breadth of the setting to be explored, ample character development and growth, as well as explain the underlying and nuanced themes of the stories that play out. Sure, have some flashy fight scenes and epic vistas, but a series doesn't need to have "grabby" effects or gimmicks it seems a lot of the "game to movie" things have.
Let's look at it this way... would you rather have Game of Thrones or Vikings as a single movie, or as a series several seasons long? Which one would do Elder Scrolls more justice?
I think short, trailer style did bits would be cool. Sort of like a mini series showing different events that occur on the continent. But a full-scale production with a linear story etc I can't see working out well.
well i know it would be MA15+ from showing all of those T bagging
"By many i am seen as hero...as a savior of the Tamriel i will not stop until every Daedra every evil there is in Tamriel is vanquish by my hands..
However i do this for my own purpose to gain trust of mortals to worship me and to eliminate my competition i will not bend my knee to lead your army to serve you Molag Bal , i will simply just take it from you.."--- Forsaken Sin( Magica Sorc)
Arise From DarknessForsaken SIn "You have been a loyal High Elf Magica Sorc
Conjure of Darkness, Master of Magic
Killer of Molag Bal and Savior of Ebonheart Pact
Until Dark Brotherhood killed you...
but now..NOW its time to Arise From Darkness once again..."
Right director and cast - could be a Lord of the Rings quality movie(s).
We just don’t need any more Warcraft style movies. Not that it was terrible, but it hardly did justice to the franchise. It was all a bit “made for TV” really.
The super Mario movie was a gem compared to the Final Fantasy, the spirits within. Its probably still one of the biggest flops.
Plus if I had to watch any of the Tribunal for any period of time, I would start rooting for the bad guys. Sotha Sil is probably the most annoying npc for me to date.
Alot of film adaptations of the game genre or others like comics, cartoons etc, do land in the hands of the wrong people to direct it.
Plus this world has a lot of lore that I do not think would translate to the screen well/easily. But hey if they made one, would I go and watch it....hell yeah! lol
Whenever I think about this I bounce between 1 and 3 always.
;c
I am thinking about this for more than 15 years now :P
I'll defi be excited but video game universe to movie translation does go well more than 90% of the time.if this happen they better get a solid crew.

Elder Kings II is a Role Playing Elder Scrolls mod for Crusader Kings III.
Not personally a fan of it because I don't think it would get done the right way.
If you could do something which got it the quality and funding of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones maybe it could come out well, however I would imagine it being more akin to the Mortal Kombat or Super Mario Bros.

No.
As stated above, most all games to movies were horrible. Warcraft included.
Tomb Raider was probably the only one that actually worked and made money.. ( Thanks Angelina).
Yes, if Peter Jackson and New Line did it, it MIGHT be alright.
Anyone else???? Well that would be like Bethesda making a "Game of Thrones" RPG game...
Hmmmmm, yup I read the rumors...LOl

Considering trends in cinematography, it only can be a movie about Redguards with an empty one-sided plot. Such type of movie based on TES uninerse I don't want to exist, but if it'll be something like Warcraft movie at very least, then okay, it can be interesting. TES have a lot of intricate narratives, a really rich lore to work with, so a decent movie can be produced.

I'd love to watch TES movie however Todd Howard stated some time ago that they wouldn't do it unless someone as big as Spilberg would propose it. It's easy to screw up a movie and then whole series gets hurt.
