At the very least I think that current attribute-based racials should be toned down. 10% max magicka/stam is pretty huge for damage

It wouldn't be if we still had soft caps, or if they were to return. *hint* *hint* ZoS.
And the soft caps is the reason why the racials survived beta. They did not matter much back then at least did the beta players did not think so. Racial ultimates was removed because of protests in early beta.

    1. Racials are not 'Lore Friendly.'

No. Racials are not BiS friendly. They fit PERFECTLY into the lore. You want a BiS character, guess what? You'll need to pick a certain race/class combo.
So why why does they work radical different from the Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion there the racials was pretty consistent over 3 games over an decade, as mostly an starting bonus rater than an endgame one

Mark that they are not significant outside of high end players who will have multiple characters anyway.
Its mostly in their head, some on this forum clamed they had an 75% effect on dps :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Why not introduce a "Blood Transfusion" system or something after completing the silver and gold quests. After completing the other alliance quests, you can visit an npc to get a blood infusion to change your racial passives. Say you are an orc and like that appearance, but want the passives of a high elf for a sorcerer. Complete that quest line for the AD alliance with the silver/gold quests, or for 1,000 crowns unlock it right away. Would let you pick any race you want to looks wise and then pick the passives you want by either doing the main quest line, or if you were lazy, could spend 1,000 crowns to unlock it right away and ZOS would make some income.

I always find this an interesting topic, with people firmly on both sides of the fence. It doesn't seem to have an easy fix as it needs to adhere to lore, not be overly complicated, but also give the community what it wants. To be perfectly honest I only really see it making a big difference to those who are interested in end game raiding, but also love the role-playing aspect of building a character.

You can still play as you want and do well, even up to normal trials, want a mag sorc but hate high elves? Make it a Breton, up until the end game the racial passives aren't completely world changing.

But, when you're into the high end of content/dps numbers etc. and looking to push scores in vet trials, racial passives play a significant role and you're left with the decision of either: adhering to how you WANT your character to be as a 'person' but never reaching it's maximum potential in combat. Or going with the Meta racial choice but have to play as a character you don't like.

I'd personally prefer to see race making absolutely no difference in performance, leave the experience percentage boosts as they are which gives at least some adherence to lore, but have a separate skill line for the passives that lets you choose and apply a maximum of 3 of the current racial passives on a character.

I don't think they should get rid of them entirely, but I do think they should tone them down a bit.

They were made with the idea of soft caps in mind originally, meaning you couldn't get too powerful in one area without diminishing returns, but after they removed them, in some cases it changed to increasing returns.

With the changes to recovery and sustain especially, the pressure to optimize your race increases which I don't think goes entirely with their vision.

While anyone can perform any content with any race as it is, their choices to make classes more capable of performing DPS, healing, and tanking roles, making 2h sets count as 2 pieces, and Jewelrycrafting, shows that they want to open up more diversity and viability in creating builds, and reducing how much more powerful a Altmer mage is than a Khajiit mage would only go in line with that vision.

And then there's the fact that certain racials don't fit. Like Imperial racials, for example, don't fit with the way Imperials are supposed to be in lore. They're magicka users, ffs.

In no Game ever in the ES series (Except for the massively dumbed down down Skyrim) are the Imperials Spellcasters/Magicka Users.

    DUDE, WHAT?!
    Sure ingame... But in lore?

Imperials ARE WELL KNOWN AND FEARED for their battle mages.

Also if we go with that logic... How come nords don't have any magicka racials? Some of the greatest mages in history were nords.

Is a 2-5k dps boost really worth so many wasted words?

Do you realise it means it is a 10-15% dps boost ? This in in no way a slight boost. It is a crazy boost.

If ZOS really wants a specific race to have a slight advantage without handicapping other races, then the simple answer is to place a hard cap on racial passives. For instance, instead of giving Altmers 10% max magicka they could give them up to 1k max magicka over other races. This would still make them BiS but allow other races to be nearly as good. If you want BiS magicka dps then choose Altmer or Dunmer, but if you want to be a Nord magicka build you can as well and still be invited to end game trials/content.

The graybeards are mostly nords. Shalidor was in the mages guild. He was a fooled by daedric prince of madness. And he needs help from other members in getting a better deal with the mad daedric prince.

The Greybeards are not mages, though. They are monks. They don't actually use magic at all.

I'd suggest, if people really want a certain race for passives and a different race for cosmetic reasons, there are already a few polymorphs, costumes, masks, beards etc, various ways to hide or adjust the appearance. For example, I rolled Imperial and later changed the race to Redguard for the passives. I kept Imperial name and in character creator was able to make him look more Imperial than Redguard. I have another character that is argonian, but I use a polymorph that hides the tail.

Maybe in the future developers might add more masks or polymorphs that make your character resemble different races, seems a bit more simple than changing the game mechanics.
