Yeah, fall damage is a special kind of damage called “physics”. The law of inertia: an object in motion will remain in motion until acted upon by an outside force.

You drop at 9.8m/s squared (object in motion) until you hit a solid object (acted upon by an outside force), like the inside of your ward when it is stopped by the ground (also acted upon by an outside force) and die.

    Hope this cleared things up.

it does make sense when you put it that way
its not extra health but rather a shield that can take alit of damage but in the fall i hit that shield with a lot of force so it wasn't the ground killing but my own double strong ward….cool

Shields are great; just not for falling. Same concept at someone getting into a car crash without a seat belt on: the car hits something at 65 mph, the body hits the inside of the car at 65 mph, too.

    If only wards had seatbelts...

Shields might not protect you but sometimes if you turn towards the wall as you drop, you will only lose a fraction of the health you should lose.

    fall damage is way OP...

it's been a couple of years now - but, i remember practicing jumping from the tops of keeps and outposts to see if the were ways to mitigate the damage...

turns out there are...for some crazy reason if you're able to execute a backward dodge roll just at the moment of impact you'll take little to no damage...

Took me a long time to figure out Fall Damage was a percentage of your health bar at varying distances, and there's no way to mitigate it.

Still true last checked. Also can do it by sliding down cliffs.

One does not jump off too high. Would be good lesson though, if in addition to fall damage, the player character would also hurt legs like in LOTRO.

    Same here lol
I dont have the heart to do it so Ive never made him intentionally jump off a cliff I didnt think he could handle. Accidents dont count of course o:)
But since were on the subject of jumping and fall damage, has anyone here ever made their character take the 'leap of faith' pictured below, and if so, Im curious how severe was the damage and where do you land? Or do you ever land at all? lol

it protected me doing horse jumping from top of vivec temple. Sorcerer Rapid Maneuver, Empowered Ward mount, sprint and jump, an kill without shield.

more than once I've took the leap off the top off a waterfall in to a body of water below - only to find out it was only ankle deep...

immediately afterwards trying to rez as quickly as possible and hope no one happened to be watching...

The only solution to the issue is to play Bosmer.

10% reduced fall damage is one of the most underrated passives in the game, especially for those of us who are positionally challenged.

I reflexively always pop shield before jumping off a ledge, even though I know it doesn't do anything and never did anything.

It stops you from dying to the mudcrab that is angry at you for falling on him, so it is hardly nothing.

This got me wondering. What will happen if you pop the Psijic ultimate while half way down?

    Must try on PTS

Assuming it works anything like Shadow Image, you have a narrow window to pop the ability after jumping before you go into the "help I'm falling" animation.

Hitting it before that should work fine, after that you go splat.
