I’m pretty sure it was mentioned with the morrowind expansion that with each chapter released - a new character class would be released as well.

Why was this replaced with “ new skill line”?
Is the new skill line going to have 15 new skills and 3 ultimates to compensate for this?

Will we be receiving the new character class with the remaining 2 DLC being released later on in the year?

I’ll need to see it to say for sure, but For me, I suspect it will be more fun to add new skills to my current characters than to start all over. If it’s as useless as vampire, I take it all back.

Can you find your source for that? I'll be honest, I remember a lot of speculation about new classes, but I don't remember any promises from ZOS that there would always be a new, class with every chapter.

That isn't a promise that they will definitely add a new class with each chapter - indeed, I think they are running low on idea's that fit into ESO lore as far as classes are concerned. A new skill line this year fits it quite well I think (that comes under new game systems). I am still expecting that they will most likely add a new race may be next year or the year after. The major bonus this year is Jewelry crafting, not the skill line.

My guess is that ZOS decided to add a new classes with every expansion, but since reception to the 1st (semi-)new class was rather... mixed... they changed their minds and are now trying something else the community wanted: seperate skill lines.

Personally I still hope they will never ever release another new class as class, but instead do something that allows us to refit new classyness to all characters, no matter if newly made or played since launch. Maybe like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/369966/class-morph-idea-mk-ii

    Could be.
But I don't think they ever intended to release a new class every year. That would be a huge job.
Besides I'm happy for zos to mix it up with guild skill lines and other systems.

    Thanks for finding the quote!

Yeah, I tend to agree with everyone interpreting those as options, not promises. This update gives us a new skill line and jewelrycrafting, so that's pretty nice.

    1. Reading is fundamental. George W. Bush, he of No Child Left Behind, would have said so himself if he could have actually pronounced "fundamental".

    2. Adding a new "universal" skill line can potentially alter the builds for every single class, thus, err...upgrading each of them, that's the word. Well, if the skills are any good, of course. It might also end up as another Undaunted, where you grind out the passive and maybe use something situationally but the builds overall are basically unaffected.

Still dissapointing that we dont get a new class.

The elder scrolls online, while being one of the poorest performing mmos that i have ever played, has a issue with classes.. We are so far behind when it comes to classes. A new class per year isnt much especially considering its already like 4 years into the game.

Considering that ZOS can't keep 5 classes balanced in PVE or PVP, and that the player base screams PAY TO WIN at the slightest hint that Warden is doing better at anything than the base game classes (and is currently screaming P2w at the Psijic Order skill line)...

You know, I can't imagine why ZOS isn't rushing to give us a bunch of new classes.

as someone else said I rather have new skill lines for my existing character than having to start all over...oh btw I main stamblade since 1st beta and I don't play alts...so yeah I would love to see not just 1 new skill line but more with each chapter...also new weapon types and so on...2 many threads and requests have already been made.

    No, no it wasn't.

The Warden was a pre planned class that was originally cut cause it effectively did the same thing the Tenplar did, so it was unnecessary and cut. For Morrowind they made it unique and put it back in. No mention of making a new class every year was made.

Summerset is shaping up to be a husk of a chapter
    No new classes
    No new content
An minor new systems (jewelery crafting and a new skill line)

Everything seems mentioned seems to be same old

They've never said a new would come with every expansion. That would actually be a terrible game design choice as in five years we would be up to 10 classes, and considering we have balance issues and overlaps in abilities as it is...

Rich said on the stream the reason they went with a skill line rather than a class this time was they wanted to let people keep playing their favourite character and progress that in some way (or something to the like of that).

In theory they've delivered on two new area as said, a new skill line and a new game system (jewellery crafting), I believe people have also said Summerset is less than Morrowind was because it has less in there (not checked to confirm myself).

I’m actually getting the impression there is more in Summerset than there was in Morrowind. True there is no new class, but content-wise it sounds like there is more.

And considering the price point it sounds awesome to me.

It sounds like content wise (quests, zones, achievements? exploration?) there will be a lot more.
It feels lacking in that we get a skill line vs a class and a crafting system rather than an entire new PvP system but...

I think they've hit a decent level of things to pass it as an expansion. I still agree these are just glorified DLC but at least they have to pull out some big toys in order to call it an expansion.

    No more classes, please!

    All we need is Spellcrafting.

No need to have multiple characters from different classes (this is so outdated for an MMORPG). I want freedom. I want my character to be as unique as possible.

This is so "World of Warcraft". ¬¬

Final Fantasy XIV walked forward. The Elder Scrolls Online can go further! Spellcrafting can be a constant system. You be able to create new spells with each upgrade (ZOS have launched new Battlegrounds for those who own Morrowind).

Yup. I’m actually very hyped for what this chapter is bringing not just to ESO, but to the TES franchise as a whole.

Jewelcrafting is also a lot bigger than what most ppl think. Plus the lore and sheer amount of content in Summerset/Artaeum is crazy. Def worth being a “chapter” at least to me. The only letdown I could possibly talk about is the fact that Spellcrafting is being further pushed off. :/

As a side note (although these are just off of the top of my head) I recall dataminers saying Morrowind’s cell count was in the high 80’s, while Summerset was in like the 120 or 140 range. So yeah.... a lot more content than Morrowind lol.

Classes are limiting, skill lines allow you to make your own class. I'd rather they got rid of classes all together and opened up all skill trees to everyone.

To echo many others, I prefer this approach as well.

New class = new skills usable only by that class.

New guild, or weapon type, etc = new skills usable by all classes, vastly improving build diversity options for everyone.

eso has got shed loads of options to make new races and classes ,weapons to boot when they choose to , over time it is set in STONE they will make more classes, weapons, skills, etc .

if you look at the whole series the so far we are the tip of the iceberg , to what we have now to what in 5 years time we will have in about ten years time .

when it take years to make a classic game like this you have to think of cycles of like 3/5 + years a time for the purpose of investment , the people who invest thier cash want a return at some point .

so a pedgree game like eso will most probally be here for many many years to come .

That sounds very generalized. Like “these are the kinds of things that can be included”, not “we will definitely include all of these things”.
