Yes, there is too much information leading towards it being the chapter. The only way it couldn't be coming this year would be if ZOS made a bunch of assets and put them into the clients just to bait and switch. Somehow I doubt they have the timetable for that however.

I honestly have no idea. If it does, then that’s cool. If it doesn’t, that’s fine too. After all, Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out this year. As well as Dragon Ball Fighterz (already released), and Ni no Kuni 2. I have more than enough on my plate. I’ve still yet to beat Nioh, nor a few other games in my recent holiday haul. So, I’d be perfectly fine with waiting another year for the next chapter. :)

Would really like to see it happen this year but, given the data was just added to the game files. Also the making of these things take time unless they already have it finished. And just starting to add the files to the game for future downloading now. Then maybe we could see it this year. But I've got my doubts it will happen this year if they are just starting working on it.

    A new content Cadence

Because we will be regularly introducing Chapters to ESO, we are going to make a small revision to our content delivery cadence, starting this year. We will continue to ship quarterly updates to the game – each with a base patch that has all the balance, quality of life, and bug fixes that you have come to expect. Additionally, we'll have a DLC in the first quarter of each year, a Chapter in the second quarter, a dungeon-based DLC in the third quarter, and a DLC in the 4th quarter.

So while we don't know a specific date, it's safe to assume Summerset will be released somewhere in April-June. :)

Here's a novel response. I don't care -- especially after Morrowind. There is absolutely nothing special about Morrowind and they charged full price for it without packaging it with the much older - and better - DLC content. There is absolutely no reason why the first 3 PvE DLCs are not included with Morrowind. I think it would increase sales to do so versus hurt the game. Because what will always matter is the new and fresh content. And there are other things that should happen:

Craft bag access for everyone. Let's be grown ups about it. The incentive to subscribe should be the additional content and not the craft bag. I'm willing to bet most subscriptions at this point is due to craft bag access. At this point, I can't really imagine myself playing without it and I'm not subscribing forever and neither will a vast majority of players. Micromanaging inventory in 2018 is ridiculous.

Account wide mount training. I have 8 character slots and no desire to delete any of them because I would have to start mount training all over again. There is absolutely no incentive to try anything new because it is far more punishing than rewarding to do so. It's a 180-day (6 month) login mechanic which inflates the numbers of their actual player base.

With the advent of the new outfit system that drops the requirement for each character to know the motif in order to use it, we should also make traits researched account wide too. Quite frankly anything that is "redundant", such as crafting skills, should be applied account wide. We should be encouraged to delete and create new characters at a whim --- not punished. I promise you. It wouldn't cut into sales of additional character slots. You will always have those people that will purchase every slot they can get. But for the rest of us, the thought of training a new mount and researching traits (even if it's just the ones that matter to you) again is just not rewarding at all.

I hope their "content cadence" is still up to date but with no Chapter II announcement yet and Q2 starting next month... it's questionable if Chapter II will get released in Q2.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't come out this year. I know everyone's freaking out because they announced Morrowind in February last year and haven't kept to the exact same schedule this year, but it's entirely possible that's just because they wanted to do a big, extended promotion run for Morrowind. Combination of it being the first expansion and it's announcement being combined with the announcement of the new release schedule, which makes it big news (and even mildly interesting to people who don't play) and the nostalgia factor of it being set on Vvardenfell which might draw in some new players, or people who had quit the game.

Summerset Isles has neither of those - a 2nd expansion a year after the first is just business as usual now and Summerset hasn't been in any game since Arena which relatively few people played (and it's not going to look like that because the graphics are so different in ESO).

I also wouldn't be surprised if it's released a bit later than Morrowind was. Modern video games take a lot of time to make, so an annual release schedule is pretty tough, even for expansion packs. Most studios that manage it do it by having separate teams who take turns with releases - so each one is actually being worked on for longer than a year. It's possible ZOS is doing that, but it needs a lot of staff (or lots of turn-over with people on contracts or outsourcing). Otherwise you cut each release down to what can be finished within the time allotted and that risks noticeable drops in quality or amount of content and dissatisfied players.

It's obviously possible to do, but I will be surprised if they can keep it up for more than a few years. Especially since I don't think they've ever gone more than 2 years without changing the business model/release schedule for ESO. First it was pay-to-play with all releases included, then a year later buy-to-play with optional sub which included all DLC, 2 years later they announced Chapters. If we're still on the '1 chapter + 2 DLC + 1 free update' schedule at the end of 2019 I'll be very surprised.

The datamined information and the signs in general, are impossible to ignore. You only need to finish the clockwork city and listen to the dramatic conversations, then you know that Summerset will be next or at least coming.

Only thing that makes me insecure, is that they still haven't announced or at least teased anything. I say Summerset is more likely than anything else, yet it could still turn out to be something else than we had expected.
My worst case scenario is, that we only get Artaeum and some instanced locations on Summerset Isle that we are teleported to and not the complete island.

Summerset will be coming this year, and possibly very, very soon.

    http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Through_a_Veil_Darkly

this is a prologue quest for the Summerset Chapter, we have historically only datamined prologue quests (Morrowind Prologue, Clockwork Prologue) in the DLC before the relevant DLC comes out. Per example, we had Clockwork Prologue before Clockwork, and Morrowind Prologue before Morrowind. Additionally, the quest itself is referred to as "SUM_Teaser" and "SU Teaser Mephala's Realm". The SU/SUM prefix is used only for Summerset related files.

The files themselves are now in a folder called "Summerset" within the live game files, which is new as of Dragon Bones release, it was not like this on PTS. (This folder is where the chapter files will be going, too, based on UESP's .ZOSTF datamine).

Additionally, the next crown crate season after Scalecaller will be Psijic, along with Psijic related items and cosmetics, which lines up with the Psijic Skill-line we saw datamined recently as well. If that wasn't evidence enough, the Clockwork City DLC tells us we're going to Summerset anyway.

tldr; the existence of a prologue quest for Summerset already in the game files, summerset isle directories being newly created and the large file directory datamine that recently happened makes it very, very clear that Summerset is coming out this year in my opinion. ZOS wouldn't just dump all these files for a chapter we will be seeing in a few years time, and it wouldn't make sense in terms of the story either to not go to summerset this year.

Well there's nothing left except Murkmire for Chapter purposes (Murkmire was announced almost 4 years ago), it's most likely too huge to just be a Clockwork City DLC. The problem here is nothing points towards a release of Murkmire whereas Vvardenfell and Clockwork City are packed with hints and notions that Summerset is coming next.

@Arko_Nam_La Great write up, as usual. Keep doing this, always a +1 for you!

The asset buildup and prologue quest all point to Summerset Isles to being the next expansion. I think there is a possibility that the expansion release has been pushed back to Q3 instead of Q2 as I doubt that any project of significant size could have been done completely on time and on budget.
