Putting stolen items in storage chests

Currently it's impossible to put stolen items in storage chests. I can see why you wouldn't want to give your stolen items to a banker, since he'd just report you to the authorities, but I don't see a reason why I shouldn't be able to store them in a hidden chest somewhere in my secret hideout, since it certainly makes more sense than carrying it around with me in front of the guards until the fence has time to move the previous shipment.

Hence the question: Should it be possible to put stolen items in storage chests at our homes?

Stolen Items are bound to the character who picks them up, which is probably what's preventing you from storing them, practically speaking. I suspect that the storage is designed only for stuff that can be transferred between characters.

I don't see why they should be character bound. Not like we have infinite character slots to fence stuff for our kleptomaniac Khajiit. But even if they remain character bound, software is not made of stone, certainly some compromise can be found, like hiding the stolen items that do not belong to the character that put them in that chest.

You can put stolen items in a chest. Visit your local fence launder the items and into the chest they go.

The reason they are character bound (one of them) is so you can't use your best thief then send items to your novice thief to level legerdemain.

Another reason, keep you from sending that gold furniture recipe you just liberated from some unsuspecting souls pouch to another character so it is safe if you get caught liberating other items.

I just want to be able to put Runeboxes in the bank. Makes NO sense at all that we can't. We can sell and trade them, so???

You cant store it in your bank or mail them... why would you think putting them in the chest is ok?

Like I already said, you can make stolen items that another character put in a chest invisible. And there is probably a million other solutions that would work similarly to address the first concern.

As for the 2nd one, how about after getting caught, the guards inspect all your property, and take the stolen items of ALL characters away that were stored in the chests?

My suspicion is that ZOS designed storage to only allow items that can be shared between characters. Adding a function to let you store character bound items would entail adding a new functionality, which they may or may not care to do.

The thing is that the principle of stolen items is fence/launder or risk losing them if you get caught.

Putting them in storage would bypass that.

I don't see why they should be character bound.

So that you can't steal more than 140 items per day on the same character and then fence them with other characters.

    Just Spitballing.

    Don't like the idea of passing items between characters on an account to launder/fence, that being said;

With the implementation of the housing storage chests it is now possible to add a Precursor style quest to the Thieves Guild line that rewards the player with a character bound chest that they can place in their house in order to store their ill-gotten gains. The chest would only be accessible by the character that completed the quest and it would only allow a small number of unlaundered items to be stored, say 5 per day, 25 max. Different "skins" could be made available as well; A bookcase, a mattress, a wine case etc.

Placing an item in the chest does not remove or reduce any heat the player currently has. Additionally removing an item from the chest should add heat to the player (perhaps 50% of what stealing the item originally provided). That way it gives the player a place to store items if they're at their daily cap, but moving the items again the next day raises suspicion. Leaving an item in the chest keeps it off the market and reduces it's fence value 2% per day for a maximum of 5 days, laundering would reduce in cost 1% per day for a maximum of 5 days.

A possible bonus, other players can interact with the container and attempt to (once per day?) pick an "un-forceable" lock. If the player succeeds they are rewarded with the gold as if the items had been fenced and the items inside the chest are "stolen" and no longer accessible to the original player. There is no honor among thieves.

Storage stolen items actually makes a lot of sense. That's the second thing a person would do after selling them to a fencer.

If one of your characters is caught in thievery, that one has to bear the wrath of the law.
Using a storage in your house would make your house a Thieves Den.

To balance the advantage of having that loot storage in your Thieves Den, you should as account run the risk that your house will be a target for a search warrant when one of your characters is caught in thievery. If stolen items are found, you should lose all stolen items and all your characters should suffer a penalty.

That can be fun for the game to add ofc.

But I guess it was intended that for now this option is excluded. Pirharri the Smuggler, the assistant , cannot launder.

Storage chests would bypass the the current fence/launder limits making them pointless.

Instead they should just scrap the fence/launder limits, they do nothing at this point.

Before anyone brings up "it limits the amount of easy gold that players can get through fencing stolen items" those that want to continue to steal jump onto another character one after the other until they feel like they have spent enough time of the day thieving.

If someone wants to spend their day thieving on the one character instead of spreading it out across alts they should be able to do so.

Especially with the way the antiquities system works, where a player can spend as much time as they want doing that making more gold than a player can make from fencing stuff.
