How poorly does the game client have to perform before you quit playing?

I've been crashing randomly since CwC.

I am glad I'm not the only one. Before CwC, my game was at least stable. After that, I get a few random crashes to desktop every day.

    Hey @rickard_karstarck ,

Most of the issues you specifically call out here have been addressed in the last two patches.
Every update the game client performs even more poorly. The most recent update literally broke weapon swapping, and is actually a bug that has existed in the main client for years.

After 2 weeks, they still don't have it fixed, and for sure that bug will exist on the console update next week.

Patch 3.3.6 on February 18th had a fix for the major weapon-swap issue in it, while also noting any continuing issues that we were aware of at the time. This came 1 week after the 3.3.5 patch as that was the timing for the incremental update after that major Patch.

64-bit client hasn't improved the performance at all, still tons of infinite load screens and constant memory leaks.

Patch 3.3.5 on February 11th had a fix for loading screen times and specifically called out we were continuing to work on some issues related to grouping. Also, the 32-bit client was retired meaning advancements for PC performance going forward are fully-focused on the 64-bit client.

Patch 3.3.6 on February 18th had another additional fix for loading screen times specifically targeted at two zones that were still seeing issues after the previous Patch.

Could you pretty please explain me why in Deshaan, if I go from enchanter shop to blacksmith (like 10 seconds worth of travel) I get 1 loading screen?
And then I go from blacksmith (doing my daily crafting quests) to the tavern, I get ANOTHER loading screen right before the tavern?

    This is really embarassing!

Wierd...I see you and several agreed with your comment. I have never had this happen...and I'm in Deshaun daily. Perhaps its on your side...

The lag in Cyrodiil this past weekend was the worst I have ever seen. In a group people were disconnected and crashed, over and over.
Bar swap and Skill activation at times took over a second to preform. Even calling the mount was slow and took time. I wish I would have recorded the comedy of Firing arrows with an Axe and using Rally with a Bow.
This is ALL after the "fix" by the way.

The client would have to get an awful lot worse, as it is generally is not the limiting factor

Servers that take 3x as long to deal with the traffic compared to the rrt to the server-farm, only need to get slightly slower to make me leave again!

This is lovely - I've had a new issue since these fixes though (when I haven't previously had many issues) - which is that a lot of things now cause the game to freeze for up to a second - which is a long time if you're in the middle of a battle and someone joins a guild you are in and the notification causes the game to freeze for a short time.

Things I have noticed that cause this:

Friend logon/logoff notifications in chat window
Someone joins or leaves one of the guilds you are in
Enchants on weapons running out of charges
Even moving into an area that is named (such as a city, or in the vicinity of a wayshrine) causes the game to freeze for a short period of time.

This has been going on for a while, but has been a lot worse for me in the last week.

There seems to be a cell boundary that is inside the eastern edge of Deshaan, with the inn and the woodworking stations and some blacksmithing stations ont he other side of the border...

Sometimes when you cross this invisible border, in either way, you get a loading screen. I think this happens when the client hasn't been able to fully load the cell you are entering...

But it's weird, it has only happened to me in Mournhold; even when I waltz at max speed through a zone and I can see how the client struggles and everything is lowres because I move faster than textures can be loaded... I still don't get a loading screen (though sometimes I'll get "stuck" in a cell boundary).

When are you gonna fix the lag in cyro???? We have been asking for years. I know a raid is on the way when I start rubber banding, barswap gets slow, skills get a delay, constant crashes. I mean really, idk a single serious pvp player who is not angry about the performance. All we ever get is "servers are working as intended" which is sad if you "intend" to leave cyro an unplayable mess. Even the PvE side is starting to complain about lag. Don't pissoff the trial crowd like you have pvp, you won't have an endgame population at that point.

Edit, on topic with the thread, I'm getting close. Alot of my friends have already left because we can't pvp anymore. The lag is just too much

Every update the game client performs even more poorly.

This is a client/server system. The client is your computer and network connection. If your client is performing poorly, there are multiple different things you might try to improve performance. A bit of research into the question of how to improve client performance might help you.

For example, I have a mid-quality gaming computer (not new) with a hard-wired (not wireless) network connection through Time Warner (now Spectrum). I keep the computer maintained and do not run any other programs when running a game. I very rarely experience any lag even when other players around me in Cyrodiil or group dungeons/trials are having problems.

Now if the server is having issues, such as when it boots everyone out of Cyrodiil, or the long load screens, rare freezes, etc., then I'll experience that along with everyone else. There's nothing on my end (client) I can do about it.

It's not use the above examples, it's loads of little things, like vMA slowing after a few rounds, and the recent Eldon Root thing where you run up to the pledge givers and it 'chunks' just before the chests. By 'chunk' I mean a mounted character is stationary galloping for a few seconds, presumably until the next area loads. I thought it was just me, then saw it happen to my girlfriend too yesterday.

Haha I've had that a couple of times too. It actually bugs me that much that I just instantly log out then back in, didn't even know it stops after a while.

One other thing I've noticed is loading screens when I get into Elden Root though. The other day I went into there on my mount (which is at full speed and I was also using rapid, but I've still never seen this before) and the game went into about a 30 second Grahtwood loading screen then went back to the game. Mount speed is probably a factor there but I've still never seen that happen before.

It's also happened at least one other time in another area but not for as long. So yeah the game might be better than it was during the bar swap bug insanity, but there's still clearly some issues that they'll hopefully fix or improve on over time.

They have "fixed" the loading screen issue multiple times, it has gotten better, but it seems they can't manage to nail it down completely.

By comparison, this is the kind of thing people had to randomly deal with back 2015/16 before the first time they "fixed" the loading screens.

Oh god, the rivenspire loading screens lol.

Today's patch is yet another swing and a huge miss.

Looks like loading screen issues are even worse, and there's even more lag in cyrodiil, even with 1 bar.

    Phenomenal job ZOS.

I honestly worry that these core issues can never be fixed, since the developers left at the company are the worst ones, not the best ones.

And of course the data mining shows even bigger updates coming, while infinite load screens and even weapon swap bug will just continue being pushed to the back burner.

We've had the game for almost 4 years, and still the sound effects don't even properly play, literally every update says fixes for sounds, yet they never work....
