Post Dragon Bones, how do you feel about crafting?

Dragon Bones DLC brought many changes, and crafting has been effected by the outfitting system. Do you think crafting is in a good place? Is it not as needed like it was before? Are crafters getting more or less work? Is it not rewarding to be a crafter anymore? Discuss please, and be respectful!

Crafting has changed, but for the bad; explain
If by "crafting" you mean gear crafting, then it's been a slow and steady decline. A year ago I crafted several sets a day, now I barely craft one a week. Crafted sets aren't always good, there are dropped sets that are a lot better, and many people have their research done and motif done already (doesn't help that traits and motifs are sold in crown store either).

So crafting as gear crafting is definitely bad. However, I've pretty much moved completely over into the furniture crafting business instead, and while the competition is large there too, at least it provides me with much more fun and income than gear crafting.

The datamined jewelrycrafting might change that for the better, but for now, gear crafting is dead (or at least in coma), and furnishing crafting is alive.

Crafted gear is still pretty much best in slot for most builds in the game.

So I'd say nothing has really changed.

    C) Crafting has changed, but for the good; explain
The interface changes have made crafting much better -

Keeping to the level of items instead of the number of mats used means that crafting a set for a levelling character is much faster, and much less likely to result in mistakes.

Keeping the same motif and level when moving from station to station makes writ crafting much faster and eliminates many, many clicks. Love it <3

I also like the way Outfits have broken the link between form and function. I now only need specific style items to craft master writs. Another poke in the eye for gouging guild store traders

A great leap forward in my opinion. :)

Crafting has changed, but for the bad; explain
I would agree with Carbonised in the idea that it feels like it has been going downhill for the last couple of years. Crafted sets have slowly been lagging behind in effectiveness compared to many of the dropped sets. For the most part, I simply shrug it off and think to myself "maybe next DLC..."

The idea of Outfitter I really liked and for the most part, it seems to bring some benefits but to me, there were two things that I really did not care for about it and it actually made me a tiny bit upset.

    1. While Outfitter provides the ability to Dye your weapons they never brought this functionality to the dye station itself like I requested back in 2014. What I mean is if you can only dye the outfitter version of your weapon NOT the actual weapon like I want. Frankly, I am pretty upset over this. If you can dye all your other gear "actual gear not outfit" why not bring that ability to your weapon itself?

    2. I spent a long long time gathering my motifs. I enjoy crafting "exactly" the look of the gear I want to wear. Outfitter has helped with this by allowing me to see the look in the game now instead of scanning the internet and piecemealing it in my mind. However, when outfitter came online they removed the ability for me to go in and change the motif of the actual piece of gear. "Oh, its fine just go use outfitter" No I am talking about an ability that was removed from the game. Why?!?!? I enjoyed showing off the gear I had made and I especially enjoyed the ability to "change the motif of a piece of gear" to suit the feel of the gear It was replacing. Why should I pay money to use some reskin page or more money to have more than one reskin page when I already have multiple gear sets to use dependant on how I want to look?

Give me back my ability to change a piece of gears motif please WITHOUT the use of outfitter.

Other than that nothing much crafting is a bit behind the times but its ok and other than those two things Outfitter is cool.

On ESO live 2 of the devs wore Kagrenac's. Nuff said.

If jewelry crafting is in fact coming with the next DLC Chapter then it's in a much better place.

The reliance on dropped sets is so ingrained that after getting my 15th character leveled up to level 16 recently I started crafting some training armor for him and remembered, "Oh yeah, you don't get jewelry... not til level 50."

Really I only ever make sets for new players, and those new players generally get 7 armor/1 or 2 weapons and simply don't get to have 3 jewelry til CP 160.

Crafting is the same, but this is not good. What I mean by this, is there are few benefits to be a master crafter.

One benefit would be having the chance to do a lot of interesting or useful furnishings, as someone said earlier, gear crafting is pretty dead. Even though I can craft 9 trait weapons or gear, they sit for ever for sale, because almost everybody has a friend who can craft things for him.

So, furnishings could be the next thing, but the blueprints are so limited and we have to wait for months to see new furnishings released, when everything is already in the game (assets).

Crafting is fun if you keep it as your own minigame. Unfortunately it does not pay off, it is more investment than profit.

Also, with the release of the outfit system, people care less about the crafted gear because it is easy to learn the motif and hide whatever you want under the outfit. So there is a revival in crafting motifs market, but less in the crafting area.

Healers has always had this issue, seducer is nice but you want purple jewelry, worse I have never gotten any rings from WGT ever. Key fragments are your friend.
And yes the new buff dungeon set is cool, has it but not integrated yet.

Its more that dropped sets has been buffed, some new good sets, transmute who solves the trait issue and now you can even look good.
If you in the future can craft jewelry of sets balance will be improved

Grinding just make you go in circles.

    C) Crafting has changed, but for the good; explain
There are more BiS builds that have crafted sets at their core than the other way around.

For PvE Julianos, Hundings and NMG are pretty much must haves since forever. Torugs was added with the infused changes and now with mechanical acuity we have another set everyone wants. Only healers have no need for crafted sets in a raidgroup.

In PvP you can use a wide variety of crafted and non crafted sets as long as you adapt your playstyle to it. Eternal Hunt and Shacklebreaker are the ones I craft the most lately.

Yes there often are alternatives to crafted sets, but rarely they are straight up better. People prefer crafted sets just for the ease of acquisition and you can still make a lot of money by keeping track of the meta.

Foods, potions and glyphs are also a steady source of income even if the profit numbers aren't very high you at least have the guarantee that someone will always end up buying it. I just wish crafting huge ammounts would go a lot quicker especially for provisioning. If you are on PC and have multicraft you can at least do RL stuff while your char slaves away.

Furnishing has been a big addition to crafting, but the market is very over saturated. Currently I have an a lot easier time selling crafted sets as there is less competition.

The only thing that was recently added that I think is a detriment to crafting is the outfitting system. Whats the point of knowing all motifs if people only ever request one of the base styles... Hopefully the lower droprate of motifs and the increased price as a result as well as the generally perceived high costs for creating outfits will push people towards still caring how their crafted armor looks.

It seems either this update or the last one I now see every item in my bank as well. This is amazing when you destroy an item you were needing to have for later. Downloaded an addon to try and fix this and that add on doesn't always show up or work properly.

You should never see all your bank items when crafting. Yes you can lock items, but you still shouldn't see the items.

Crafting as a whole became worse, despite the motif aspect of crafting being more meaningful now. Crafters used to get hired to make good gear look fashionable. Now the fashionable part falls flat as most people don't have to match crafted items to dropped items anymore. Crafting is only required for the trait knowledge at this point.

Don't really know why people get all giddy about dropped sets and call them better than crafted. Everyone of my characters wears a mix of Crafted and Dropped, some half and half, some more crafted, some more dropped. In no case have I ever been able to increase my stats going all Dropped. Or at least to the extent that it tells me that this is the only way to go to do content.

I have also seen many DPS tests on the boards in the past couple of years that show Crafted and Dropped sets have parity for the most part. And, no, I am not going to state that a 1% difference makes all the difference in the world, because it doesn't. Besides, the last one I looked at had a crafted/dropped combo at 1% higher, and that is mostly due to not having jewelry crafting. One that was crafted/crafted/agility jewelry was right there in the mix too.

Now, one thing that has changed is not making money from crafting anymore, but that's OK. Crafting for others is kind of a pain and never really paid for the time spent consulting and crafting.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Crafting has changed, but for the bad; explain
All that matters is traits, whereas before knowing multiple rare motifs meant a higher payout.

Crafting is pointless now though. Everyone has or knows a 9 trait crafter who can make any gear they want, and styles don't matter even a little bit anymore since the outfit system overrides all armor and weapon visuals.
