@ZOS_SoundMaster

dear Soundmaster,

I'm in general really impressed with the music (since beta!) and I love standing in stormhaven or vvardenfell while waiting queues just to hear that music but there is one really annoying thing that keeps bothering me every day:

The track during the startup of the game (currently the morrowind track) goes annoyingly loud after a few seconds when all the big instruments kick in and you cannot skip it because of the load times. Then when you log in all volume dissapears to make room for very nice low volume track of the zone you're in.

I assume that it seemed appropriate to choose a bombastic piece of music but it goes so much louder that I ended up turning off my speakers everytime I need to do a number of relogs. For 1 relog I log out, click the character and immediately alt-tab to windows to 'skip' the loud music part

if you ever have time...

yours truly

    Options-Audio-Master Volume
    Turn it down.
There, when you log in now, the volume will be at the level you set.
    Enjoy!

Turning down the music doesn't help, neither does turning it off, at least not on PS4, until you get to character select screen then it shuts off. It's still loud and jarring though. I've been annoyed by this for a while. Good to see I'm not the only one, lol.

At the very beginning of the login, the music is, in fact, super loud. Has been since the beginning. You can turn off music in audio, but that only takes effect once you log into your account. The game simply loading doesn't know before that to turn it down. If I recall properly, there was an addon on PC that fixed this, but being on console now, there's sadly not much that anyone can do besides deal with it.

EDIT: It would be really cool if you could change the intro loading music with game updates, like even just the big ones with morrowind. Keep it fresh and it might lessen the annoyance.

It doesn't apply to the very first instance. The in-game Master Volume only kicks in once you reach the login screen. Atleast on PS4. Even with it turned down, the beginning Splash Screen/Main Menu is set to earn bleeding levels, and not able to be adjusted.

    settings, audio... do it yourself

Settings for Audio don't apply until you're in the character select screen. You are just a troll on these forums lately aren't you. Don't even bother to understand somebody's issue before you lash out with a nice blend of salt and toxins.

...and smashing my computer and speakers with a sledgehammer would indeed also 'solve' the problem...

to be extra clear for the people that didn't understand my post:

I do NOT want to turn ALL music down or I would simply do so in audio settings.

I'm very happy with the currrent music volume in game AFTER login and do NOT whish to change it

it's only the 1 super loud bombastic part of the morrowind track at character screen that annoys so much. The track starts with a small nice piece on low volume and then all hell kicks in. If I could change that track to another of my choice that would allow me to fix it forever

yup, it's like the initial music you get when you login does NOT know what your sound settings are (are they not stored locally on the clinet, and not loaded first?

hm, when i login to the PTS I hear it that loud, but not with the live server - I guess, there is some setting for it somewhere, which I have tuned down on the live server, but not the PTS - unfortunately I do not know what and if I have done something.

just to make sure that we don't forget the obvious: have you already compared your audio settings between live and pts ?

The way music is set up for this game is just obnoxious. I'm saying this as a musician (an actual musician, trained, degree'd, with related disabilities to both my hands and hearing. etc.).

This irks me but what irks me more is how they have combat music set up to be as intrusive, jarring and assaulting to your ears as possible. Part of it is the composer's choice of instrumentation (way too much precussion for some of the music), while another is the mixing and volume, and still yet another issue, how it triggers and when it fades out in-game. It's like everything triggers it, even piddly fights with overland trash mobs.

There really, really needs to be an option to disable combat music.
PC-NA since 2015. Tired and unimpressed.
