I'm all for people earning things. Doing it the right / hard way.

However in this I don't see a big issue. It's no different to a guild helping a new guy get it. And Trials community don't make huge bucks from doing them so why not.

Its akin to Emp, if someone has no guild mates to help flip the map, asking a guild to help (your alliance!) and offering coin as incentive is kinda ok as long as you out the legit leg work in yourself to get the AP and no switching / boosting occurs.

Sure people should out right earn stuff, but with the trials crew so clicky its hard to get in with groups that can smash it I think.

Are you talking about a practice that make elitist's tears flow because "casuals" can look just like them and therefore they won't feel the superiority and specialnees they crave for?

Some people spent real money for crown store skins
Other spent gold for trials skins

Since we can't sell any item looted within trials anymore, it's a good way for PvE raiders to make gold.

It’s a situation that is reminiscent of how everything else this game makes tough to earn is purchaseable, and honestly benefits everyone.

The only downside is that the skin loses some of its “uniqueness”, which is okay since the ppl earning the skins get new ones every 6-12 months. I don’t need my Maw/HoF/Asylum skins to feel cool. As long as I have a skin that looks nice on my character I’m satisfied.

PvPers and PvErs who aren’t able to get into groups for vMoL/vHoF/vAS (only a few groups can do a vAS carry) for various reasons can reach a certain amount of gold and purchase it. No different than buying an item from the Cyrodiil vendor or a guild trader. Did you earn that Velidreth Shoulder or purchase it from the vendor? Did you earn that Spinner Staff or purchase it from a guild trader? Did you earn a Maelstrom Infused Destro or transmute a Maelstrom Decisive Destro? Did you earn that vMoL skin or purchase a carry from a guild?
All of it is exactly the same. You can earn many things in this game through different means.... that’s a very good thing about this game.

On top of this, it is very pricey to run Vet trials (especially progression) due to Spell/Weapon pots and repairs/gems. If not for carries, many players from the pretty small Endgame PvE Vet trial-running community would not even bother playing that content. Money from carries sustains their gameplay and allows them to get the gear/pots they need. That wasn’t an issue back when gear items earned in trials were tradeable :unamused:

Yet there are still limits. Where do things become different, or bannable even? Well when a Maelstrom Arena carry takes place, or anything that involves *account sharing or real life money*, then banning is in order.

I think this is a great practice. Without it, we would probably not be raiding. Raiding is expensive. Due to the fact that everything is BoP, the food, potion and repair costs cannot be covered by just raiding. Not even close. As a raider, you also have to always test new setups, create new gear, adapt to new tactics. What you get from raiding doesn't cover even 10% of those costs. It did before ZOS made all drops BoE.

For those of you taking out the pitchforks right now... no, there is zero shame in that. I don't know a single client who wanted the skin because he was "bad and wanted to look like he's good, like he earned the skin, so he paid for it." Most people who buy the skin are people who want it purely for the looks. They are usually 1. Roleplayers or 2. PvPers. They are all open about having bought the skin. They don't feel "ashamed" about it. They just don't PvE, they never ran trials and never plan to. It's just a look they wanted and they bought it.

Another kind of clients are achievement hunters. Those that are willing to pay 12M for a vMoL no death or vAS speedrun. But those are so rare, it's not worth mentioning. We get one of those like maybe once in 2 - 3 months. And we actively look for these people everywhere.

Most of our clients want to farm gear (golden jewelry). A vMoL/vHoF HM run or two, so that they get all the gear from all 12 people. Doesn't take long, definitely worth it for the buyer, covers our basic raiding expenses.

Oh yeah, we don't want to do it. Really. It's annoying. We wanna raid instead of having to do these carry runs. But it's necessary. If raiding covered the expenses, we would rather raid. We don't wanna get rich by raiding. We just want the rewards to cover the expenses, which they don't.

    This is fascinating.
And how many people can you carry during one raid? And what is it like? They don't have to do s**t? Just follow you and enjoy the scenery?
And IF, just IF, they happen to contribute to the run and ACTUALLY do damage... you still take gold?
Also, would you be doing the same trials regardless carrying someone?

I want to participate in trials eventually but not for skins and achievements or leaderboards really, I couldn't care less, but because to simply see what it's like, you know. And I'd have to PAY for that apparently because I am inexperienced?

Thank gods there are guilds out there who don't take gold and just enjoy the raid for what it is.....PLAYING A GAME and maybe helping a fellow player. o_0

@duendology We leave the choice to the clients. Most also want the drops, so they are just dragged through. Others don't want anything to do with the trial. They just join on the last boss, die, get the skin. We don't need their contribution and none of them want to contribute.

We are doing the same trials, but we are doing them competitively. We optimize our group work, buffs and debuffs, mob stacking. We all perform at our maximum capacity. And, in general, it's about the community. We just like to play with each other. Also, raiding and running trials are different things.

No, you don't have to pay. You only have to pay if you don't want to put in the time to learn, are not interested in trials whatsoever and only want the skin. I have yet to meet a single person who bought a skin and did trials later. Most are RPers or PvPers that were never interested in experiencing the trial and never will be.

Yes, there are guilds. And whenever people message me and ask for trials, I send them to those guilds. On PC EU, there's Late Night Dungeoneers. Perfect guild for that. There are tons of beginner guilds.

A dude I know recently bought one. Medium CP and could do with some serious git gud. I'm not really one to judge and people can do what they want with their gold but damn I feel embarrassed watching him run around with that thing on. Talking ground dps but a sense of entitlement now that the skin is being sported :D:D:D

I'm not going to say they should be banned, but I'm definitely not a fan of the practice. The skins are meant to be earned! They were meant to be worn to prove that you were able to progress through and complete some of the most difficult content in the game, now they prove you've got deep pockets. I honestly laugh at people running around Belkarth in a MoL skin, 9/10 times they're under 400CP.

I got vmol on a 200CP alternative, but I can confirm you it's earned, not bought. Although being 'carried' a bit perhaps because the players knew it was not a 'true' CP-200 player but just an alt, I still pulled off my weight as a runner, with +30k dps bossfights on the other bossess. So don't judge on first sight seeing such players. Also spotted 300cp tanks earlier who genuinely worked for it. I also don't get anything against carrying as 95% of the trialgroups as this will always heppen to someone on a larger or smaller degree, it rarely happens all players of a group are truly on the same level. Notable expections are the topscore hodor-like groups, and even there carrying guildies towards good results may still happen.

Despite that, I'm not a big fan of people being carried by unknown peoplefor a paid price. Still, it's their own players choice and if they choose to be carried through, or do so by paying them ingame, it's up to themselves and not to us to judge. I prefer to work and earn such skins myself, instead.

Not ok with it. But skins are RP content. Hard and vet trials should have appropriate gear for rewards. Stuff that assists in trials content. Not cosmetics.

Agreed. Even as a person with numerous content-earned skins, I have always felt that skins being added to this game from dungeons; trials was a huge mistake. Whenever you place a cosmetic for reward, you’re bound to have a ton of dishonest play and drama follow. Without fail, and every time.

Even in other games, I am beginning to see these types of things being a bad idea. Case and point being Overwatch awarding gold weapons. Absolutely horrible decision on Blizzard’s part, and a few devs have openly said that it was 1 of their worst choices made regarding the game.

I don't care. If someone wants to spend gold to buy a skin, by all means go for it.

It doesn't affect my enjoyment in-game if someone buys a skin that I don't have.

Personally, if I had the gold I would buy a carry.
I literally work 24/7 as a dispatcher for a 24 hour emergency road side/tow company.
So doing a trial , even a vet dungeon ,is very difficult because when the phone rings, or a digital dispatch comes in, I must answer it. Having a carry makes it to where if it so happens to happen during a boss fight, the group is aware that for a min I may be AFK. The only reason I have a couple of the vet dungeons completed is because of carries. I am in there most the time, but can AFK at any moment. I am eternally grateful for the kind people who are patient and have taken me through them so I can have the experience of something I otherwise would never have done.

    Seriously, your problem is SKINS?

People pay other players to take over their char and steer it through vMA just for the titel (and the weapon, too). People even pay for the "flawless conquerer" title somebody else grinds on their char. People pay for the emp title in a side campaign or use the swap-emp-mechanism to earn it for their whole group. People farmed Grand Overlord titles by sitting afk at Bleakers some months ago (but hey, some got a 3-day-ban for this). People buy accounts with several BIS-geared chars and a fully filled personal guild bank to "start easy" into the game.

They are still *** players despite their shiny titles and maxed out accounts. So I really couldnt care less about some gold or silver cosmetics.

Skill is not being proven by some skin or title, but by PLAYING SKILLFULLY.
