stamsorc tank race

Been rebuilding my characters and this is the final one I'm working on. Currently he's a khajiit, and I can't say they 8% crit chance isn't useful for a stamina sorc in conjunction with crit surge - it has me sitting at around 40% weapon critical chance without any crit from gear sets.

So I'm trying to compare the usefulness of 8% crit vs what other races might offer in exchange.

Wood elf would give me 6% more max stamina and 11% more stamina recovery.

Nord would give me 6% reduced damage, 9% max health, and 6% more max stamina.

Not much interest in other races, tbh.

Any opinions? Just seems like its hard replacing 8% crit on a crit based character

If it’s between Nord and Wood Elf, then Nord because only one wood elf passive can actually be used by a Tank.

In terms of best races it would be:

    1.) Argonian
    2.) Imperial
    3.) Orc/Nord
    4.) Everything else

If this is a PvP Build then I’d say Orc so you can have decent resistances and still dish out Damage.

If it’s PvE, Argonian is the best IMO because your crits won’t matter much in PvE in most Vet Content because your Damage would be lower. So in my eyes, Sustain>Crit.

If you are making some casual PvE/PvP Hybrid then you can pretty much pick whatever you want, as long as your not trying to min/max.

Nope. So far I have found Imperial to be the best. Tanks need the magicka in addition to the health and stamina. The red diamond passive is marginal at best, but its enough to keep you healed without a healer if you combine it with a couple shields and an occasional dragon blood(if DK) or Vigor(or back-bar rally).

As far as the Kajiit crit chance...crit is great...for DPS, not so much for tanks. I build all kinds of tanks, and they come down to 3 categories:

    1. Pure tanks...DPS doesnt matter since that isnt your job. This is the type you take to a trial.
    2. DPS/Tank Hybrids. These are are DPS focused tanks that are able to competently tank vet dungeons(DLC dungeons push the limits of these tanks), and maybe off-tank a trial, also this type of tank is great for playing vMA. I have a DPS tank that can put out 23k DPS of this variety...though the new nerfs to off-balance will send this tank back to the drawing board...might have to rebuild him as a sorc instead of DK to keep him viable.
    3. Healer/Tank Hybrids. These are tanks that that focus mainly on tanking, but in a pinch can also do the healer's job(not as well as a healer, but well enough to run dungeons with 3 DPS). Again, like the DPS/Tank hybrid their survivability is not as good as the pure tank and like that hybrid, they are harder to play well. I have a warden tank/healer hybrid that can spam heals well enough that no healer is needed...but he just isnt able to handle(yet) Vet DLC dungeons...and since he relies so much on heals he takes far more damage so his health bar swings a lot more.

In the end, it depends on exactly what you are trying to build and what content you are running with it.

Like I said the crit chance primarily helps with healing from critical surge, and obviously for soloing outside of dungeons.

Meh, I disagree, but I only use the character for vet pledges. Obviously it isn't going to work for trials - that's my wardens job.

Imperial would be my choice, followed by orc. If I ever wanted to make a stamsorc tank. I'd leave Argonian for mag builds.

Khajitt and crit surge = self healing tank with the amount of crits you would get at 40% and hurricane you would heal for enough to self sustain but good luck letting the end gamers let you play with there toys there pretty selfish about who does trials.

Stamsorcs make great casual DPS/Tank hybrids for any content where being less than a full tank works: normal dungeons and some vet (HM vet DLC dungeons are iffy.)

I build mine as DW/1HD and the only magicka ability I use is Crit Surge. I have tried Encase also but I prefer Caltrops for add packs. It's all the considerable extra damage and constant self heals that makes this a useful low-med level content tank that takes pressure off the healer allowing him/her to DPS more and adds much more self DPS than a regular tank would... faster runs FTW.

For that build I use just my standard preferred Reguard.

My real dual 1HD tank is an Argonian DK though :)

Exactly, though I'm only using the character for daily pledges so I'm not worried about being a min-maxxed tank character (I have a warden for that).

My stamsorc, with food, is at 37k health and around 30k stamina, a little over 40% crit chance, fairly decent weapon damage, he's able to do moderate DPS while tanking and healing himself all at the same time. Good character for dungeon runs.

Vet trials are about the most I tank. My Templar tank is Argonian. Resource regen is amazing. I kind of makes me wish all my characters were Argonian. My stamDK tank is Imperial, the health bonus is great. My Warden tank is Nord, damage reduction and extra health is good.

My magSorc tank is Breton. Regen was absolutely terrible so I switched out a max health 5pc set for Shacklebreaker. With buff food, I'm at 35k health, 30k magicka, and 20k stamina with over 1300 magicka and 1250 stam regen now. I'm around 30k resists too (with Boundless Storm). It might not be optimal but it's a lot of fun!!!! The good thing about this game is that you can complete content without a meta build. Look at different sets, build upon your strengths or minimize your weaknesses.

Argonian is the best racs for a tank of ANY class. The passive that gives you additional resources back on potion use is incredibly powerful for resources management. Pop a potion when you are low, and everything is almost full again.

Khajit is good, stamsorcs are super reliant on crit (people telling you that crit is only important for DPS simply don't understand stamsorc tanking) Imperial is good too, mine is currently imperial.

You don't actually need a lot of stamina for a sorc tank though, I've found it's easier to tank the harder content with more magicka.

But as many people have raised, expect a solid fight to get into any veteran end game stuff. Regardless of how good you are many groups simply won't take you. At the moment I'm being let into groups due to the high concussion rate my build provides but I imagine when tomorrow's patch lands it'll be bye bye sorc tank and respec'd into something else.
