Ganking is the biggest single reason a lot of players don't like PvP.

PvP is supposed to be about taking on a tougher challenge in the form of another, unpredictable, player as compared with the lack of challenge against a predictable mob with limited AI. For that to mean anything it has to be an equal fight, a level playing field. Whether it's a group of players taking on a single player, or a high level player taking on a low level player, ganking is the very opposite of that.

So, if it were up to you, there would literally be no fighting at all in Cyro. Do you know what are the odds of 2 players running on each other that are on same skill lvl, both running BiS gear and classes that doesnt hard counter each other?! And, no one interrupting them, having same campaign buffs, resource buff,..... Someone will always have an advantage, or even if they are at the same playing field, you would have a draw more often then not.

I used to gank long time ago and know it is really fun and it's basically best way for less exped player to get kills by himself. Now, I almost never get killed by a ganker and when i do it's mostly because i was sleeping afk, since 1 shot builds are a thing of a past.

Sure, multiple gankers in a group are annoying, but thats so rare i couldnt care less.

Wasn't 100% that which one to select lol, I have been ganking a lot in past and i'm still doing it (changed from stamina to magicka tho). I'm totally okay with the fact that I might get ganked at any moment, but it doesn't usually bother me, ganking is perfectly valid style to play PvP, even tho it isn't that fair always and you just have to accept the fact that there are gankers or stealthy rogue like players lurking around you in cyrodiil or in any other PvP zone.

Also, Ganking/hunting for enemy gankers is fun, and once you learn how ganking works, it will become easier to avoid being killed by ganker and most of times, if they fail at killing you, they will die in couple seconds unless they manage to cloak away. It is easy to kill opponent with gank build but then in other hand it's easy to get killed while ganking so yeah... But that's just my personal opinion about the topic ;)

It was the bane of PvP on launch. But now its so rare.

I used to run 'system anti-gank' to counter but now don't at all bar mage light to reveal or get a curse on em.

There is already a no-CP campaign, and plenty of people play there. It’s actually easier to get ganked there in my experience, because the there is no CP for hardy, elemental defender, bastion, etc...

I think it’s a grubby disgusting way to play. But it’s part of the game so whatever. We just gotta deal with it. It doesn’t bother me anymore.
People who camp quest givers are afraid of real PvP in my opinion, it’s a good thing this doesn’t happen that much anymore.

I have traditionally been a PvPer and spent a lot of time in what I wouldn't consider ganking but world PvP. My main (2) MMOs over the last 11 years have been WoW and Rift and I originally played ESO at release and have recently returned and haven't spent much time at all PvPing. Looking forward to it however. PvP in ESO though is very different from those other (2) games so not really sure how ganking would roll in this game unless it's camping delves and quest hubs killing people who are trying to PVE. Looking forwards to getting in there, just very immersed with the PVE in this game and working through the story and building up gear sets. Haven't even done a Trial yet...though don't really plan on doing so unless I am just bored, never found raiding much fun and spent most of my time in BG's or starting crap in quest hubs.

Im not one because I dont really pvp in eso, only on new characters to get some skill points. But I really think ganking in general is great; players need to l2p and the experience of being ganked again and again should serve as a great motivator to improve yourself. That's how it works for me in pvp games normally, I simply like the challenge, it motivates me to better myself. It's like I get this feeling "I shall not stand for this anymore! have at thee knave, haaa ya!"

It seems like a waste of everyone's time in most cases.

There is the odd time it's worth while and contributes to the alliances efforts, for example if your alliance is attacking a keep and has it flagged, it's a great way to pick off the enemies coming to defend, making it easier for your team to capture the objective.

If you're ganking outside an unflagged enemy keep, I would rather your slot be used by someone else. But, if that's fun to you, do what makes you happy.

    Sorta. :)

I'm pretty decent at most of the game, just not PvP. When it comes to PvP, I am spectacularly inept and it doesn't bother me particularly. Only reason I even encounter gankers is my working on Master Angler. If ZMax hadn't decided that I need to venture into Cyrodiil to finish the achievement, gankers wouldn't even be on my radar.

But, I do wonder what sense of "victory" anyone can feel after obliterating someone who obviously is in no way a threat. I guess it comes down to "obviously" and, given that there's likely no way to know for sure if someone is a threat, I guess I can understand "shoot first". Still, seems a hollow "victory" to me.

    YMMV and all that. ;)

    1. You young people have it easy. Back in the days of MUDs, most of which were far more "communal" than modern MMOs simply due to there being orders of magnitude fewer players, on certain ones some admins would gank you. And then instead of letting you respawn, tie up your headless corpse for a while, with optional muting in chat for good measure.

Although to be fair, a majority of the larger MUDs weren't as bad. Most of the time.

My point is that, let us call it, anti-social behaviour had existed in MMOs - especially PVP MMOs - from the very moment they were invented and went live. [Same with other Internet-related phenomena.] Moreover, if the past 25 years are anything to go by, human beings do not really change and so ganking and the like isn't good, it isn't bad, it just is, and it will continue to be.

One either accepts this and plays accordingly, or one is best advised to find other forms of entertainment (including within a given MMO - can't be ganked doing PVE dungeons or what have you).

    2. To be fair, different MMOs have different levels of ganking. For example, PVP team deathmatch ones generally haven't any because it...cannot really be done. Not unless you start offing your own teammates, and that sort of thing often leads to a ban. On the other hand, EVE turned ganking (especially in high-sec) into an art form. One chooses one's poison.

    3. Also, too:

    http://www.pcgamer.com/meet-world-of-warcrafts-most-notorious-ganker/

To be fair, it sounds like a guy with no life (at the time) taking advantage of shoddy design to grief some carebears (and then PCMag trying to amp up the adjectives because neither they nor their audience ever played EVE...). And he admits to as much himself, bless him. Really it's the trolling aspect of what he did rather than the kills themselves, which does not work without someone feeding the troll in the first place. Still, fun times, and apropos!
