Followers.

Like skyrim, people for hire, or willing to fight with you, etc. A free one in the assistants menu, and ones you can find and get in-game. THEN, one that costs crowns, a custom looks one, you can select their appearance and skills they'll have.
Don't look into someone's eyes, if you fear what they'll see in yours.

I've seen this suggested a few times around here and the usual response is "your followers are your rl friends or friends you make in eso"

Skyrim is a single player game.
    ESO is an MMO.

    You want "Followers", play skyrim.

They've replaced that with fake tanks, DPS that only light attacks, and healers that are worthless for DPS or healing.

It is an MMO, aand I love your group mentality enthusiasm, but some people would enjoy the ability to solo around in their MMOs during low player hours without being entirely screwed, it wouldnt even help that much, because, AI, but still. -flashbacks of Donald from kingdom hearts-

Especially the part where you could grab one of your followers and chuck them off a cliff if they annoyed you too much.

I mean, I can grant DD that the Pawns are a really interesting concept, even if the execution is a little... odd, at times. (Seriously, the entire plot thread that explains the ending ties the metaphysics into a ball.) It's a really good game, but it's using the pawn system to allow for asynchronous multiplayer. In a game with actual multiplayer, not so much.

Star Trek Online did the NPC party members thing as well. In space you had just the one ship, but on the ground, you could have an entire away team (with 4 characters you customized. They'd be replaced if you had human party members.) Again, it's a cool system, though not necessarily one that would fit well with ESO.

When I have a follower on a quest, like the Harborage quests, it never fails. Everytime I try to loot, the damn follower walks in front of me and I end up "talking" to them instead of picking up my loot. Can't wait to complete the quest to get rid of them!
No thanks. For me, that's a pass.

Would be a cool feature. As long as it doesn’t affect PvP or PvE group content (dungeons, trials, etc) it should be fine tbh.

I agree with this, nothing more annoying than that NPC that blocks a doorway and wont let me in or out. I even got rid of the non combat pets because they always stand in my way and block my view of what im doing. Besides, i have a dog i can walk in real life dont need one in a game unless he is an attack dog. But so far he spends his time standing around being useless.

Recall the quests where you do have someone following you around - they are simply not worth the extra lag this would create. Worse, the extra effort this would take, having to rebalance -everything- for the follower option...

Want a follower? Get a friend who has lots of online time to play ESO with you.

Want a combat help without having to deal with other paople? Play a sorc.
Star Trek Online did the NPC party members thing as well. In space you had just the one ship, but on the ground, you could have an entire away team...
...that occasionally vexes you through getting stuck in the landscape, especially on the Kobali battlefields. And then you get to respawn as you fight a battle balanced for a team alone.
Still, it works for ST background. Not so much for TES background, which was mostly a solo act all the time.

Remember when Cyrodiil had mercenaries you could call in to protect a keep. That was such a [snip] show, nearly unkillable NPC that could lock down a keep with like three humans. Ahhh, the good old days...

Not quite, Neverwinter is also an MMO and it has an AI buddy you can and assign a class to and level up. If implemented in a similar way It might work out

I disagree for ESO being a pure mmo, cause pure mmo's have a no tolerance cheating policy ESO gives to much leway
