If TES6 dropped tomorrow this game would go under in a heart beat.

Fortunately for ESO I think Bethesda is well aware of that and that's why they have be reluctant to make any announcements about a new Elder Scrolls.

TES6 will launch when ESO runs it's course.

TES series is single player offline game. ESO is massively-nultiplayer online game.

Different people prefer different things. Those who prefer single player games will play TES6. And those people don't play ESO anyway. Those who prefer MMOs will play ESO. And those people do not play original TES anyway. And then there are people who enjoy TES universe and will play both. Some of those people might switch for a while to TES6, but I doubt it will be any large amount of people.

Anyway I doubt TES6 will be released anytime soon. They still have to release android and iOS version of Skyrim first.

ESO and TESVI will probably help each other in sales by having certain extra perks by buying one game or DLC or something, giving you a code for something in the other game, kinda like they do with ES Legends.

I still play the other Elder Scrolls games while playing ESO, and it'll be the same for when TESVI comes out, granted, it'll probably be a good, maybe month break at most from ESO when that happens but I'll still have my subscription running.

It is possible to play other games while sticking to an MMO. :P

    It loses not many players
    Best guess:
    • ES6 releases in November.
    • ESO active players peaks until the day before launch, and then drops overnight.
    • For november and december, ESO is nearly dead.
    • In January, a minor DLC comes out, and some people go back to ESO.
    • In June/July the next chapter is released, and people flock back to ESO in full force...

IF and that's a big IF TES 6 actualy releases - people who wanted TES 6 will play it, people who are enjoying ESO will continue to play it and both games will continue to coexist the way ESO currently coexists with all the constant rereleases of Skyrim.

why am I getting a feeling that its a barely disguised "ESO is dying and the only reason people play it is because TES 6 is not out" thread?

and you cannot use "its the only TES mmo" excuse either, because if TES6 comes out? its not going to be an MMO. at most it MIGHT have up to 4 people grouped option and even then, more likely then not, its not going to be for playing through main campaign but rather the sort of multiplayer that is an excuse to sell boxes that's been shoved into every single player game lately.

I can assure you..I have no alterior motives here. I'm pretty new..only been playing since october..it kind of worries me actually if es 6 is so good people have no time left for this.

Another worry is that te 6 may pull in the reigns a bit to avoid contaminating the game here..are they the same company?

Then why bothering with ESOcalypse if you're playing since 3 months?! Meh...

I put just over 1000 hours into fallout 4 and still play it (wasteland aint gonna rebuild itself...and the mods) but have never neglected ESO. Tbh I think the single player elder scrolls games have been going down hill and are basically action rpg's, light on the rpg.

Personally I hope nothing will happen and people will still play ESO. I heard a rumour (or rather speculation) that TES:6 might take place in different "continent" (not Tamriel but Akavir that is separated by Padomaic Ocean):
    LLhBIkB.jpg
That way people who want to explore the whole Tamriel will still play eso.
And in new TES:6 will will have a completely different world with the addition new playable races etc.

As others have said I think many players will play both.

For me I will play TES VI but it won't offer the same experience that ESO does, that being the ability to explore and share with my friends. I love Skyrim and Fallout 4 but after a while the immersion gets boring because I can't share that experience or the cool things I am doing with friends.

People get another dose of Elder Scrolls and after competing TES VI people might come and give ESO a try after not trying it before or since ESO's launch. Could go any way really, it depends on the state of ESO after this happens more then anything.

If Elder Scrolls 6 comes out within the next few years I believe it would only renew interest in the series and draw in more players in the long run.

Maybe we'll see 1-2 of months of lower population, but as soon as people complete a reasonable amount of Elder Scrolls 6 they will most likely consider picking up ESO or returning to it.

They could even have incentives and free trials packaged with Elder Scrolls 6 to encourage people. I don't see how it could possibly have a negative effect.
I assume this will be staged, TES 6 comes out and ESO take an hit in player numbers including eso+, next ESO update(s) is pvp, trial or dungeons to keep multiplayer fresh. then an new chapter to bring players back.

TES 6 will be an single player game only but will have lots of moding support.
My only hope is that they make it more like eso than fallout 4.

There may be a lull in player activity while the standalone draws attention, but it will pick back up later or others will come in to fill in the blanks.

In all reality, ZoS and Zenimax will likely outmarket each other, having promo's for both sides of the house at the same time.

Both will have their market share, each without affecting the other, long term.

Do you realize Fallout 4 sold sold 12 million copies grossing over 750 million dollars on launch day alone?

Directly out of Peter Hines mouth and I quote:

"Fallout 4 has gotta be the most successful game we've ever launched in our company's history. More than Skyrim, in terms of what we did." - Pete Hines

ESO for all intents and purposes is a failure from a sales and marketing perspective....they have 8 million active accounts over 3 years....(who knows how many of those accounts were created for free during their F2P weeks/weekends)

ESO won't come close to making 750 million dollars even if it goes on for another 4 years. Thats nearly a Billion dollars. I think the market has spoken LOUDLY with Fallout 4 on what they want, I also think the market has spoken loudly on what they DONT WANT considering Skyrim SE, Skyrim VR, and Skyrim Switch has nearly outsold ESO already and has only been out a little more then a year.

No way Zenimax/Bethesda leaves a potential 1 Billion dollar money maker to rot.

Crown store you say makes ESO more money then single player?

what do you think the Creation Club is?(its their way of monetizing a single player game) The Elder Scrolls 6 will literally be a game that lasts over a decade.

Todd Howard said Fallout 4 wasn't even in development 6 months before it was announced at E3....take what you hear from Hines and Howard with a grain of salt...they are both very good with poker faces...of course TES6 is being worked on, its probably almost done to be honest....they are just finishing up the VR integration, Creation Kit integration, and giving Skyrim SE, Fallout 4/VR, and Skyrim VR time to market and make money before things simmer down. the Skyrim SE, Switch, and Vr releases probably pushed TES6 back about 18 months whihc is ok because they invested time in making them so it makes sense to make some money off them.

You all realize ESO only had/has a 5 year dev plan right?

The studio aims to gain control of our attention spans (and purse-strings) by dedicating itself to high quality content throughout the life of the product — a lifetime the studio believes will last for at least 5 years.

ESO was only meant to go on for 5-7 years at most. If you think ESO is going to go on forever like WOW and other such games then your sadly mistaken and have not payed attention to how Bethesda/Zenimax and Pete Hines does things...they easily could have milked another 4-5 DLC out of Skyrim but instead chose to end the project because they felt they could no longer convey what they wanted creatively...ESO Engine is already dated, they are already approaching the point that they will no longer be able to stretch their creative legs with it, and thats when they will move on.

ESO was put in place to buy Bethesda time to write a new engine, finish their VR technology(their suit against Occulus) proves that Bethesda/Zenimax wants to be the premier VR gaming studio going into the future.

Most of the of content being released for ESO has been done since late 2014 before they had to let go of most their devs due to money costs, and before they laid off most of their support staff.

In the not so distant future ESO will have had a good run, and fullfilled its purpose, and like all things will come to an end to pave way for new projects in the future, thats what progress is. The next projects coming out of Bethesda will redefine the game genre for years to come, This is a good thing. ESO will have a part in the TES legacy forever. I like ESO for its pvp, which it does well when it works.

@RinaldoGandolphi you also realize the market and the studio has changed and adapted from the 4 year old article you linked, right?

They could do absolutely nothing more to the game and it would still see new players coming in as older players depart.

It may not have been their greatest marketing success, but I assure you, if it was doing little more than making enough money to keep the server turned on, it would have been shut down long ago.

ESO is making money, or they wouldn't have bothered this long, and it will continue to make money for years to come, well past the 5 year plan mark.

Do you honestly think they haven't brainstormed new ideas and content? Or, do you think they limited themselves to their original five year progression?

You may as well say McDonalds will probably shut down because they've made the same cheeseburger for decades now...yet people (old and new) still manage to walk through the doors and the lights remain on.

I think TES players will mostly play TES 6. Especially if theres a coop/group option to play with friends.

Coop is all sone of uys ever wanted, Elder Scrolls online went to bad idea when it was MMORPGized put of TES. Much smaller game would have been succesful and we did not need another genreal MMOwith TES theme. Something in a size of EVE would have been sufficient but greed will always want the most players.

I was pretty negative on ESO at the start mainly to do with mechanics, first person gameplay etc, but credit where it is due, ESO has done a lot to add to lore, story and rounding out Tamriel as a whole. TES6 will now need to work in with ESO not the other way round.

TES 6 needs to completely forget that ESO exists and continue with pre ESO lore. Most of the additions in ESO are stupidd and ridiculous and done to please MMO players, not to make a good story.

People will eventually finish a new single player TES, or continue to play ESO alongside it.

Not to mention that the core series has always explored Tamriel chronologically, whereas ESO is concerned with the 2nd Era and the Alliance War.
