why am I getting a feeling that its a barely disguised "ESO is dying and the only reason people play it is because TES 6 is not out" thread?
and you cannot use "its the only TES mmo" excuse either, because if TES6 comes out? its not going to be an MMO. at most it MIGHT have up to 4 people grouped option and even then, more likely then not, its not going to be for playing through main campaign but rather the sort of multiplayer that is an excuse to sell boxes that's been shoved into every single player game lately.
I can assure you..I have no alterior motives here. I'm pretty new..only been playing since october..it kind of worries me actually if es 6 is so good people have no time left for this.
Another worry is that te 6 may pull in the reigns a bit to avoid contaminating the game here..are they the same company?

I assume this will be staged, TES 6 comes out and ESO take an hit in player numbers including eso+, next ESO update(s) is pvp, trial or dungeons to keep multiplayer fresh. then an new chapter to bring players back.Mangybeard wrote: »If Elder Scrolls 6 comes out within the next few years I believe it would only renew interest in the series and draw in more players in the long run.
Maybe we'll see 1-2 of months of lower population, but as soon as people complete a reasonable amount of Elder Scrolls 6 they will most likely consider picking up ESO or returning to it.
They could even have incentives and free trials packaged with Elder Scrolls 6 to encourage people. I don't see how it could possibly have a negative effect.

@RinaldoGandolphi you also realize the market and the studio has changed and adapted from the 4 year old article you linked, right?RinaldoGandolphi wrote: »Those who think TES won't happen....
Do you realize Fallout 4 sold sold 12 million copies grossing over 750 million dollars on launch day alone?
Directly out of Peter Hines mouth and I quote:
"Fallout 4 has gotta be the most successful game we've ever launched in our company's history. More than Skyrim, in terms of what we did." - Pete Hines
ESO for all intents and purposes is a failure from a sales and marketing perspective....they have 8 million active accounts over 3 years....(who knows how many of those accounts were created for free during their F2P weeks/weekends)
ESO won't come close to making 750 million dollars even if it goes on for another 4 years. Thats nearly a Billion dollars. I think the market has spoken LOUDLY with Fallout 4 on what they want, I also think the market has spoken loudly on what they DONT WANT considering Skyrim SE, Skyrim VR, and Skyrim Switch has nearly outsold ESO already and has only been out a little more then a year.
No way Zenimax/Bethesda leaves a potential 1 Billion dollar money maker to rot.
Crown store you say makes ESO more money then single player?
what do you think the Creation Club is?(its their way of monetizing a single player game) The Elder Scrolls 6 will literally be a game that lasts over a decade.
Todd Howard said Fallout 4 wasn't even in development 6 months before it was announced at E3....take what you hear from Hines and Howard with a grain of salt...they are both very good with poker faces...of course TES6 is being worked on, its probably almost done to be honest....they are just finishing up the VR integration, Creation Kit integration, and giving Skyrim SE, Fallout 4/VR, and Skyrim VR time to market and make money before things simmer down. the Skyrim SE, Switch, and Vr releases probably pushed TES6 back about 18 months whihc is ok because they invested time in making them so it makes sense to make some money off them.
You all realize ESO only had/has a 5 year dev plan right?
The studio aims to gain control of our attention spans (and purse-strings) by dedicating itself to high quality content throughout the life of the product — a lifetime the studio believes will last for at least 5 years.
ESO was only meant to go on for 5-7 years at most. If you think ESO is going to go on forever like WOW and other such games then your sadly mistaken and have not payed attention to how Bethesda/Zenimax and Pete Hines does things...they easily could have milked another 4-5 DLC out of Skyrim but instead chose to end the project because they felt they could no longer convey what they wanted creatively...ESO Engine is already dated, they are already approaching the point that they will no longer be able to stretch their creative legs with it, and thats when they will move on.
ESO was put in place to buy Bethesda time to write a new engine, finish their VR technology(their suit against Occulus) proves that Bethesda/Zenimax wants to be the premier VR gaming studio going into the future.
Most of the of content being released for ESO has been done since late 2014 before they had to let go of most their devs due to money costs, and before they laid off most of their support staff.
In the not so distant future ESO will have had a good run, and fullfilled its purpose, and like all things will come to an end to pave way for new projects in the future, thats what progress is. The next projects coming out of Bethesda will redefine the game genre for years to come, This is a good thing. ESO will have a part in the TES legacy forever. I like ESO for its pvp, which it does well when it works.
I was pretty negative on ESO at the start mainly to do with mechanics, first person gameplay etc, but credit where it is due, ESO has done a lot to add to lore, story and rounding out Tamriel as a whole. TES6 will now need to work in with ESO not the other way round.
