With all the changes since One Tamriel then Morrowind, I find myself leveling much differently than I used to. New characters, for the most part, skip questing until much later instead I go around hitting up every Sky Shard I can get in the overland and in Delves, I purposely skip Public Dungeons until last. I'll still do quests I come across in Delves or related to their area and a random dungeon a day. Once I've gotten all the available Sky Shards that I can reach, it gets me to around level 36 which then I start doing the main quests that award skill points until around level 45. At this time I swap over to Public Dungeons that I skipped before as they give a lot of experience that you gain 1 level for every 2-3 you complete up to level 50. I have crafted gear with training at levels 4, 20, and 36, you don't need to upgrade all that much when sky shard farming.

After that, I complete whatever else at my leisure or move on to the next character and repeat the whole process over again.

I level everything in Skyreach. Takes like 2 hours for 1 - 50 with all buffs and a buddy.
After that: Killing all group bosses in public dungeons to get skillpoints. Grabbing all Skyshards on the way.

This for me as well except the group bosses in public dungeons but I might add that to the routine now. Not a bad idea. It feels like such a waste of time to level outside of Skyreach. I've already done every quest in the game so repeating them isn't interesting and killing mobs anywhere else is just inefficient becuase you're not in you're own instance and others can leech.

Since I want enough skill points to learn all crafting professions on any char, I usually just level up slowly by doing the following (zone by zone, always starting with Auridon :))

    - Cadwell's Silver/Gold quest in all 15 main zones
    - collect all skyshards in 15 main zones + Coldharbour + starter islands
    - do the group events in public dungeons (I usually skip the public dungeons in the beginning as well and do them later when the character is strong enough to solo everything inside them)
    - collect all Mages Guild books in 15 mainzones + Coldharbour
(- as soon as I'm lv 10, I quickly go to Cyrodiil, to learn Rapid Maneuvers! :))
    - I usually craft 2 sets of blue or purple armor (first one for lv 4+, the second one around lv 30 which I use until the char is lv 50) and update weapons from the random drops and quest rewards I get.
    - deconstruct everything I don't need to level blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking
    - I also clear all Dark Anchors once (for Fighters Guild XP)

For some odd reason, I also still feel compelled to complete the Fighters and Mages Guild quest lines on every single char even though they don't really award me with anything I need, practically speaking. I also complete the main story line (Harborage quests + Coldharbour main quests + Molag Bal), do the first Undaunted quest, and complete the prerequisite quests for crafting writs.

Once I've done all that, I continue with the skyshards, lorebooks, and public dungeons in Craglorn, Wrothgar, Hew's Bane, and the Goldcoast until I have enough skill points for a fun PvE build and all crafting skills I want to learn (and I also unlock the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood skill lines on the way).

When I have all the skill points I want, I quickly powerlevel alchemy (see my strategy here), provisioning, and enchanting to rank 50; blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking are usually 50 already at that point or very close to it.

By doing all of the above I get the Fighters Guild skill line to 10, as well. If I want to level it a bit faster to get the ultimate early, I grind for a bit in one of the public dungeons of Deshaan, Shadowfen, or Coldharbour.

My goal in the end is that the char can fulfill at least one role well in veteran group dungeons and can do max level crafting writs (for some chars I get Vigor, Caltrops, and Warhorn from Cyrodiil, the long-term goal for all is to get Undaunted rank 10) :)

Overland zombie farming. It takes around 10 hours for 1-50 with 50% pots. Skyreach is better, but you can run this solo, and at any level.

I'm cp550+ mostly by questing. I don't like starting new character because grinding is boring as hell and I don't need it in my life.

Similar to above except I play DC so start in those areas - do most quests in all zones through main/silver and gold and collect all shards and public dungeons points. Do normal group dungeons if possible.

Do guild quests and main quests and DLC areas last. Then PvP and fishing!

It can take me months to fully level a new character and normally I have 2 or 3 on the go at once plus I'll be playing my fully levelled ones too.

I still do questing, because that's what I enjoy and my priority is to have fun playing the character, not to spend hours grinding to max level so that then I can start having fun with them.

    Agreed.

It may be a bit dreary to do the same old quests for the fourteenth time sometimes... very much so. Still less mindkilling then grinding. And you pick up a nice selection of skill points and skyshards along the way, as well as mages guild books and general skill advancement... and every so often, you even stumble across something new!
And if you alternate your gameing time between questing with a new character, and doing some DLC stuff with one of your old ones... the sense of repetition is indeed bearable. (I still wouldn't want to make any more characters, unless I had to... thus I nope they won't just add any new classes again, ever, or at least give us class change tokens if they do! Though I still would prefer any new classyness they might come up with to be refit-able to existing characters old and new...)

Create new char and park it,

send it all decon stuff (and glyphs) so I can get to 3 item research and sub 30 days, do research
    do daily horse training
pick a tier of provisioning I want to farm recipes from and load the character up with pre-made recipes.

When one of the seasonal events come run it through dolmens until it hits 50.

When I'm ready to actually use the character run though story missions and such collecting all skyshards/skillpoints plus hopefully a decent chunk of the horse training is already out of the way.

The last is actually a good boost to CP as everything now counts towards it, find a wayshrine, walk into a town for the first time, literally everything.

I complete every dolmen outside of Cyrodil and every public dungeon. Usually walk between the dolmens collecting skyshards, books and resource nodes. During an XP event it probably takes 10 hours. With just an XP scroll, it takes around 15. But at least I get a ton of skill-points and usually also have my Fighter's Guild completed by the time I am done.

I find questing the most fun. I've done each faction enough times that I'm pretty good at optimizing my questing path. This allows me to collect Lorebooks, skyshards and complete delves without having to go back and do everything. I won't leave a zone until I've gotten all the lorebooks, skyshards, quests, and exploration done. I'll also queue in the dungeonfinder while I'm leveling to get the public dungeon quest and additional skill point from them.

Did this on my DK and ended up getting to level 50 before I was done with the second faction zone.

Cliff of faliure, i recently leveled a stamina warden was able to get to 50, fighters guild and caltrops in 12 hours.

I member in the good old days when scaling was not a thing i had a spot marked and saved on every map for each level range, after i finish of each spot i go on collecting skyshards and killing world bosses and dolmens before moving to the next map, and god the veteran ranks aswell. Now i only stay in one spot, with exp pots, exp epic gear for 6-10-20-30-40-43 level 5xseducer/3xmagnus for magicka, 5xHunding/4xnight silence for stamina with witchmother's brew for magicka and dubious throne for stamina.

Never get bored of it, feel like I'm playing the game as intended. Will never understand grinding except perhaps switching to a new region and wanting CP, but levelling is crazy fast these days as it is.

I prefer to do the story line quests of every map, public dungeons and dungeons to level up undaunted.
While I do this I try to level up also everything I can, all types of armor, weapons, class abilities prioritizing first what I think I will need for my desired build and roll.

The idea is to reach the maximum level with enough skill points and also maximize the different trees.

I could go to kill zombies, yes is more fast, but then what do I have?

1-2 hours - there’s no laugh emote big enough. I like Skyreach but that figure is simply erroneous.

I’ve used Skyreach but the last two chars I got to 10 in the double XP event by setting up things like mages, fighters guild etc. Then once level 10 simply a random dungeon a day with a 50% 2hr scroll. Spent 20-30 min on those two each day and it worked really well, allowing for the fact I started the second one slightly later and needed 2.5 levels in Skyreach, which was 3 loops with a Max character

I used to suck it up and clear my alliances zones quests in order in a long couple of week grind fest.

These days I tend to do random normal dungeons with friends, it's a bit more social and fun and the XP is fast.
