How have the ESO Forums affected your gameplay?

started playing eso sometime around july ’15…every time I would do some research – I kept finding answers on these forums…so, finally joined the forums around a year later in july ’16…

as a primarily solo player with limited interaction with other players in game – no question the forums have played a huge role in my approach to crafting, and character builds…

that wasn’t what got me thinking on this though…

was in imperial city last night doing some tel var farming…been in there the last few days and had primarily been just farming in the sewers – wasn’t really earning a lot of tel var – so, figured I go try farming up top in the districts for awhile…

i’m pretty easily distracted – so, pretty much ended up just doing quests for awhile…

however I did run in to a couple of situations where I was hidden to some "enemy" low level cp players whom were by themselves and engaged (one opening a chest, another fighting xivkyn) - buffed myself up, was ready to go through my rotations and just couldn't pull the trigger...

i just couldn’t stop thinking about all those posts I've read about people being upset and bummed out about getting ganked in IC and losing half their stones...

it made me weak :'(

so, just wondering now – how have the forums influenced your gameplay?

I usually get real happy when I see someone from the forums and will try to make a point to say hi - whether we're fighting on the same side or not...

I'll never forget one time I saw @Ballcap standing on the porch at nikel...he was yellow and i was blue - got so excited to recognize his ID that I ran up to the porch to say hi while he was surrounded by a bunch of his allies - I barely was able to roll dodge my way out of there :o

I don't know if the forums have changed the way I play the game per say. Except maybe to quit being a loner and treating the game like a Single Player Game.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I took a year and a half off (maybe longer) and came back some months back. The forums were huge in helping me get caught up, although I feel like I've still got more to learn. In which I will come back to the forums to get my new questions answered.

With a few notable exceptions, I'd be willing to bet most of these "PvP crybabies" originate from PvE, are used to everything being easy and handed to them in game, step into cyrodiil in all divines gear with no impen, get rekt, then cry. I have played this game since launch and haven't asked for a single class based nerf. The closest I have gotten is asking for some better counters to certain skills that seemed to be the right choice in every situation.

Most of the PvP community has been hit with the nerf hammer so many times that we are very hesitant to ask for any sort of nerfs because we know the hammer swings in all directions. Today you, tomorrow me. So I think you can place the blame with people that mainly PvE and then expect zero learning curve or their "special" build to not have any counters in PvP, or to waltz into cyrodiil and go toe to toe with a grand overload (that does more than repair walls) and have an even fight.

The forums haven't really affected the way I play. I do my own thing, regardless of what people on the forums say. I'm not a rude player or a ganker so I see no reason to change. In PVP, I'm the one who gets killed all the time!

The forum has done a few things for/to me....

-Daily source of hilarities, in one form or another.

-Provided more knowledge of gameplay so I can further improve in the game.

-Reading some posts from the engineers and theory crafters has changed my outlook towards optimism in the game.

-Although I'm still primarily a solo player, the majority of the community here is fun and gives me the feel that if I ever socialize more in game, that it will be as welcoming.

        I run into/by you a bunch too in rawl'kha :)

I was gonna make velyn harbor my "home" base where it's a little easier to log in to - but, rawl'kha is just so freaking convenient...

I find that I do more PvP on the forums than in game. The frame-rates are better here and at least on the forums, ZOS actually bans people that break the rules.

Sometimes in Alik'r I see a forum-famous Khajiit vampire assassin standing around (thinking deep thoughts?) and I run a couple of circles around him before I go on my way, a little happier.

Other than that? I dunno. I've learned a lot of stuff from reading here and following links, so it's probably changed all of my gameplay. Even straight-up forum drama is kind of educational.

Now I'm jelly that no one runs circles around me in game. Guess I'm not famous enough. :disappointed:

i've definitely done my fair share of depriving others of their precious stones...

and yeah, a fair fight doesn't exactly strike me as a smart fight...and, i try to stay smart in pvp land...

maybe it was just because I haven't played in IC for awhile, or that I wasn't on one of my nightblades (they seem to be just built for taking advantage of others)...

honestly, after I let that second player pass - I just knew my heart wasn't in to it and logged out...

I didn't bother with the forum at the start, I just wanted to play the game. A bit naive, particularly because I wanted to play the way I liked.

However, after having found the usefulness of the forum I can't see how anyone can get on without them. The game changes so much it would be impossible to keep up without the forum.

The forums have affected my play by:

Learning about things like the PTS and trying to stay ahead of the curve with upcoming changes and updates.

Theorycrafting & telling people who ask me to make them builds or git gud when I don't know their class well to "go to the forums" and learn from people who do know. Also citing the forums as the info source when applicable.

Absorbing PvP & PvE tactics, builds etc.

It made potato one of my favorite descriptive terms with a G rating.

There are a few, like @paulsimonps , who have given insight into tanking and mechanics.

Otherwise, too much of the forums is white noise, to be polite.

The Combat Mechanics subforum is the most useful, for me.

In the past, I've used both the ESO Reddit and the forum when I've needed some pertinent info or some build help. But these days I read the forums mainly for the entertainment value. This is pretty much how I roll on every MMO I've played thus far, so I can't say that the forums have changed me. I'm still who I am.

I don't think I've come across any players from the forum though. At least, I'm fairly sure I haven't.
