I wanted to make a poll seeing how the community feels about PvP now compared to how PvP has been in the past. Feel free to share why or why not you enjoy PvP now, and what type of player you are (small scale, solo, large scale). If you vote the “no” option share what ruined PvP for you. If you vote one of the “yes” options, share what changes made PvP more fun for you.

I love PVP . I still love PVP just as much as when I started . I don't like the degradation of server performance over time . I don't like the constant freezing in big battles , sometimes even medium battles . All the other issues I can live with but that one has this one participating less every year .

For me personally, I don’t enjoy PvP like I used to. I remember spending hours in Cyrodil and having a great time, now I struggle to stay there for even 15 minutes. I am typically a solo or duo player, and I think the rise in zerging and tank builds have ruined it for me. People in Cyrodil have really changed, I used to be able to find other solo or small groups just wandering around, now if I see an opposing alliance member not zerging, they hide or wait for a zerg to come. Cyrodil has really moved towards large scale, and the small scale combat I once enjoyed seems to be gone. Also people just don’t die like they used to. You can get someone low only to have earthgore or something reverse your damage, or they may have a high health pool and take very little damage at all. The zerging mixed with the tank Meta has totally soured Cyrodil, unfortunately it extends to duels and battlegrounds.

I wish they would rethink their overall philosophy. They bring down the ceiling lower and lower (skillrequirement). This is the main problem from my perspective.

I quit pvping long over a year ago. Just pve'ing and roleplaying for me now...

I left GW2 to come back to ESO after a long break. Main reason is that I prefer AvA region, its big, keep seiges are so much more fun (used to be anyway). I left GW2 because I was tired of the "stack on commander and spam AoE's. Sadly, with the ball groups it 100 times worse here. Not to mention the lag it causes (mixed with the infinite load screens it often triggers).

If its not nerfed to the ground soon, I'm heading back to Gw2.

I loved PvP when VR was a still a thing because your CP didn't win fights. As long as you were VR 16 and had the gear, you could CP 250 against a 600 and still stand a chance. Now if a group of non 690s runs across a single 690 then they get decimated before the 690 is even half health. And this could be a group of 300s, 400s, or 500s. I just miss being able to go toe-to-toe with anyone I ran across, but now I can't because I haven't wasted a whole bunch of gold and time for XP farming.

it's so hard to find good fights these days. mostly your just running as 50+ players try and chase you down :(.

i dunno. i think cost reduction cp should come back and siphoner should go. cap it at 10% maybe but something needs to change to get people to break off from the faction stacks and bring solo play back.

Yes, I enjoy PvP More Than I Used To
I started a little more than one year ago in pvp, so for me I enjoy it more. I’ve learned a lot and I’m much better than I was. Things are pretty damned balanced. I came in towards the end of the great stamina dk era, when sustain was infinite, and you had literally unkillable tanks. Personally I’m enjoying it more, but the feeling is different. I think a lot of guilds have split up or died since then, a lot of good players have left, so the atmosphere isn’t as great. And, as others have said, the server performance is just bad. No one understands why ZOS can’t put in some work to making that better. Idk much about this stuff but others have expressed upgrades to the servers or reinforced nodes as possible solutions. I think this game still had a lot of life in it and would be nice if they’d really turn to improving cyro. I feel like zerging has become what it is today partly because of the servers inability to handle the load. I think even the best players enjoy giant battles except for the fact that you can’t function within them except as a spam group because of the fps drops and lag. So it’s not fun to run solo or as a small group within a larger fight.

I enjoyed 1.6 through 2.2 the most. In particular, I really enjoyed 2.1 (IC) and 2.2 (Orsinium). Combat was fast and fluid. It wasn't perfect as ball groups were very strong via barrier/purge/rapids, but all other combat was much more interesting than it is today. IMO, 2.3 is when ZOS began its 'raise the floor, lower the ceiling' effort and that has slowly ruined PVP combat for me.

The return of permablocking in 2.4 and proc sets took a lot of fun out of combat. As sets were updated to VR16, the game became less balanced. This was especially true in 2.6 (1T) when soooo many sets were introduced. The more sets that are available, the more difficult it is to achieve balance.

I enjoy objective conflicts the most, but the otick buff has ruined them for me. Keeps are often not defended and flagged keeps attract offensive faction stacks as players race for a guaranteed minimum otick of 6k.

Worst of all, I feel the culture is changing. I feel Cyrodiill is full of players straight out of Alik'r (dolmens) who enjoy zerging nearly undefended keeps with 60 other players.

ESO PVP -- AvA in particular -- seems like a rudderless ship without direction. There is no visible leadership, no apparent vision, and adjustments/bug fixes come far too slow.

My favorite pvp in ESO history was right at the hit of One tam. Balance is important and all but.. In too many cases "balance" actually translates to nerfing out anything that's anti zerg. Like removing ground oils, nerfing bats, steel tornado, black rose, desert rose etc.. (Black rose was sort of op originally).

My least favorite time was late 1.6 I think. The period where all 1v1s with decent players were stalemate. Now is much much better than then.

Build diversity is pretty good for a mmorpg currently. There's two ways to balance really :

    1. Highly controlled monthly Buff nerf cycle that typically leads to fotm like most mmos This method usually entails linear gear and class mirroring. It's commonly in the name of 1v1 but results in the opposite because 1v1 requires counterplay and build diversity. Large pvp is even worse without niche builds. It is however much easier to not let balance get out of control and easier to make an esport out of.

    2. (Zos does this one) Design enough complexity that the players eventually create countermeasures to the "OP" builds Then the devs add more counters from there. I prefer method two. It's the method games like D2, POE, NWN took to have build diversity. The gear is a means to augment your build so therefor not linear. Arpgs take this route more than mmos as I imagine it's a nightmare to balance in an mmo for multiple reasons.. I really appreciate that Zos takes this route so I can build pvp characters with niche purposes like holding doors or bombing zergs.

I don't think that was 1.6. In 1.6, the common complaint was the low time to kill. 2.0 (also called 1.7 by some) was very similar to 1.6, except everyone had caught on to nirnhoned armor--which, oddly, is when I decided to switch to Magicka.

It was at the end of 1.5 when 9/10 players were wearing LA and carrying a shield. The time to kill against these builds was very high. It was a lot like today actually with an abundance of the tanky builds that can't kill each other 1v1.

Yeah It's been awhile so I'm not sure on exact patch number. Was when casted shields were at full strength. At that point there were only a few logical choices for builds. Now at least the tank builds are niche. There's a spectrum of glass cannon-tank with many stages of viability between them.

I will add however that O ticks were a awful choice and are the main source of faction stacking nowdays. That makes me lean toward tankier builds to counter zergs.

When I started playing this game, in PvP I was a potato, but It was really fun to play and to fight zerg vs zerg. Now I'm much better, but after experiencing all toxicity, hatred even in the same alliance (hatred between alliances is also disgusting), miat's addon and f***ed up balance, It's just meh, something to do when I'm bored of PvE. No matter what playstyle you choose zergling/ganker/bomb group/permablock tank/anything bow related, people still thinks that it wasn't their fault that they died and they hate you. It's not more boring I still like to fight with other players, but the only thing that makes me feel nice in Cyro is my amazing and friendly guild.

Yes I enjoy the fun I have on TeamSpeak with a small raid of my guild, but the gameplay and mechanics are so boring and repetitive.
The destro-warden-permahealing-permapurging zergs are making it worse (and people call that organised skilled group play, don't let me laugh, find most of them 1v1 and they run away and then call you names and a noob because you use gap closers on them)

U mentioned that u have started playing year ago but in a last year not really much changed (mostly sustain). If u could only know what the game was like 2 years ago. The joy was there, way less lag, more 1vX capabilities, no resource posion [snip], no proc sets. That was paradise.

Thats the problem with those kind of thread. OP is getting any: "Yes, I enjoy PvP just as much as I used to" because ppl has very small spectrum and the other half dont know [snip] about the game.
