Should 2h weapons count as 2 items for set bonus?

Furcula

Quite a simple question, should 2h weapons such as staves, bows and greatswords etc count as 2 items towards the set bonus?

Thoughts on this topic? Will it significantly affect balance?

No, and this topic is soooo old and silly. If you want 2, use Dw or SnB. Choosing a 2h has its benefits and downsides, as it should.

To be fair, if this is the intention, 2h could probably use a buff.

lmao. that's what I thought. however I actually want 2h weps to count as 2 set bonus, purely for selfish reasons, disregarding any balancing issues.

Also can I wear full medium armor and have all passives active for heavy and light armor at the same time? Or use bow skills on my dw bar? Because I'm too lazy to think about my build and I want to be OP at start.

There's so much more to this than just counting 2H as 2 pieces of a set.

    Traits for dual wield weapons:

Infused in one hand affects the cooldown of the glyph on the other weapon.

Nirnhorned in just the main hand weapon adds a relatively huge 15% stat buff for dual wielding.

    Enchantments:

There are twice as many glyphs hitting at the same strength as 2H

All of this combines and makes it possible to gain a gigantic weapon damage stat on the dual wield bar, 10-15% more than 2H if you have an infused weapon with the weapon damage glyph in off hand combined with a nirnhorned weapon with whatever glyph in mainhand. You also get lots of chances to apply a status effect from the proccing mainhand glyph.

I don't think 2 hand weapons should count as two set pieces but I think they should give some sort of flat bonus that makes them more competitive DPS wise with dual wield. And with individual flat bonuses they could do it in a way so that staves are not too OP.

As someone above mentioned they also need to look at enchants. Glyphs on a two hand weapon should be dealing more damage than glyphs on duel wield weapons.

Sword board and duel wield suck for magicka as you only get class abilities and light and heavy attacks do no dmg and don't replenish the stat you need.

Things are reasonably well balanced as they are right now between all weapons. They have their ups and downs, and all of them get used equally (except maybe ice staffs). Making them count for two would just muck up the balance and make magic seriously OP. No point, right?

Maybe that was too awkwardly worded, so I'll try again.
2h weapons have been buffed enough in various ways over 1h weapons to account for the loss of a set item such that the weapons are equally powered. If they weren't, nobody would use 2h but clearly, people do.

If staves are really a 2h item, why are they only held in one hand? I never seen my sorc have both his hands on it, always just the one.

That's only because *most* of the forum players are currently busy banging their heads against their keyboards instead of voting "NO" !

Seriously, this whole idea never had any traction. Might as well throw out any sort of character customization and go back to Quake 3.

could you explain your reasoning? the idea of having set balance be independent of weapon class seems reasonable (regardless of whether that's 11 or 12 pieces for everyone to work with), and I don't see how it negatively impacts customization.

What is traction to you. They are literally implementing (something resembling) transmog and house storage. They implemented transmutation too. There were tens of threads about Miat addon from january to October, where they finally said they will do something.
Stuff like this gets ignored till it gets implemented (or at least promised) or confirmed as not happening.

This idea was literally mentioned by Rich (I think) during Morrowind so it is already at better place than most ignored things and it was not confirmed as not happening.

So, people will continue to make threads about it, because that is how stuff happens in this game.

But I guess, since you dont like the idea, you really dont want ZoS to be reminded about it often :D

    @pauli133

Dual wield has unique consequences (both negative and positive).
By taking away uniqueness and making everything the same (all weapons count as two pieces) you are *reducing* build diversity.

People want 2H to count as two so they can get the positive from dual wield (2 full sets + monster) without having to actually chose dual wield, thus avoiding the negatives.

They aren't asking this to "balance" the game, they are asking this because they want the benefits from a different play-style without the consequences of actually choosing that play-style.
