ESO LAG and Perofmance issues in 2018

Last night was probably my worst night since I started playing.
PVE seems to depend on where I am, last night in Grahtwood I had a ping of a little over 100 which tanked my fps to about 22.
Tried PVP but after 10 min I couldn't stand it. 250-300 ping. It looked like everyone was sneaking

This saddens me, i asked yesterday about the lag cause i want to come back but just cant. Quit last June because of it. I dont think the realize how many players they actually lost due to performance and lag vs people just moving on. If they fixed the lag, i do believe they would have a thriving PVP community and also i am sure many of the PVE players are sick of the performance issues as well. Always been a big believer in fixing the current product before adding new items to it.

It's not just PVP, PVE is affected with framerate drops until full game stop aka freezes, as well. I have summed up the PVE-related issues in this thread.

The only fix to the game from our end is to stop playing it at this moment. I see more and more players do exactly that unfortunately because there is no other way to deal with it anymore. It might help to have a bit more transparency about what is done towards performance improvements. But since it's rather silent in that matter at the moment, this leads to the conclusion this may not be a priority (or worse). Which is not very promising.

Ive noticed something "odd" too add too this btw, in cyro when im near well known "scripters" I get a massive amount of ability lag but then when im not near those people its laggy but playable and thats against large zergs not 1vX. (No I will not name them because it violates ToS and I cba to argue with ZoS CS over getting me unbanned from the forums because of it).

I am starting too wonder if the fact the "scripters" are able too use multiple abilities at once (which is cheating) are part of the problem. The server lags so hard because its being forced to calculate more than it can handle or well the processors in the server are so because these people are cheating and forcing the game to do too much at once and with there being so many people who do this (Something needs to be done about it) I am wondering if those scripts are pushing the servers way over what it should, which is why I would ability lag sooo hard whenever I engage in a fight with them.

I know they arent the whole problem (and yes I know it sounds weird), perhaps a smaller part than server hardware and optimization on ZoS's end but its certainly starting too feel like there is a connection there.

None of my other games lag, everyone i talk to agrees, streamers on xbox have issues varying, and all my other games on PC and xbox work 100% fine.. This is obv an eso issue, And always will be im afraid.

Edit* And its not just at big fights.. Near big fights its unplayable, but for example i had a 1v1 at 4am in a dead campaign last night with like 4 people around and it was still lagging for all of us..

I'm in Australia with a max of 13 down and 0.80 up.

100% agreed with you guys. But i have no idea, why you still posting this topic.. Nobody from ZOS cares about and the only DEV-answer we'll get here, is that some offending comments has been deleted/edited. Just check the last threads about this theme, it's always the same. The only way to get ZOS awake is by declining your ESO-Plus and stop spending money on crown crates. But ppl won't stop, so, why should zenimax put a lot of effort in fixing the lag?

I mean, iam open to new plans. So, @ZOS_GinaBruno and @ZOS_JessicaFolsom are there any concrete plans on how to fix the performance? This is one of the moments where you can show your community, that Zenimax Media is not only chasing our money, but also trys to improve the performance issues existing for more than 2 years now..

And no they won't fix it unless they role the game back to 1.0 but my guess is they'll try get as much money as possible from DLC and Crown Store fluff before Skyrim 2 comes out and Pete Hines says no more.

Yeah, performance is bad in TESO for some reason.

I cant go in mol without lagging like hell

Vivec is a lag fest

And then there are those lag spikes or loading screens or charge bugs that teleports you airborne

Or you know those guys that just jump into keeps and take them from the inside

I hope those things are looked into as they matter more to me than new contents. I would be fine if we skipped one new content release to have those things fixed.

I don't know about Cryodil but about the the same PC, overclocked 7700k and a 1060 though. fast nvme etc, always good frames, still might have to turn some stuff down though, I don't know.

The lag is so bad it's embarrassing . @ZOS_BrianWheeler , what happened to the study you were conducting to allieviate some of the lag ? Everything in Cyrodil leads to constantly disconnecting , rubber bouncing and freeze screen . This is so bad . I feel terrible for anyone paying a sub right now that pvps .

I stopped caring and canceled my sub when it was apparent that they stopped caring. When Brian wheeler stopped posting and they unsticked the performance thread it became clear they are not going to do anything. The 2018 road ahead doesn't even mention pvp and the 2017 road ahead said they were going to fix he performance issues and they didn't.

cyrodiil so bad that i dont even go there anymore but even in PVE performance is not really acceptable IMO.

I went from pvp to house decoration and still it feels laggy lol.

I dont think they are capable of fixing it, unless they find the root cause for the lag by accident perhaps.
Its a real pity because it is such a great game but they have a short term vision i guess.

For the last few weeks xnox has been having nasty input lag. So many delays after pressing button.

Not really sure why..maybe just more people are playing now..I dunno.

This might get my comment removed but meh. I think our so called devs and so called zos reps are to blind and ignorant about the issues we are having with pvp and pve. There should be no reason when we log in that our ping is 30-70 but in game ping is 200-300+. I have left a few times cuz of the lag and after last night's major lag in vivec na. I'm sure a lot of ppl are considering it as well. 300+ ping major input lag, major memory leaks.


Hell we've been saying that cwc is full of memory leaks and so was the last DLC. They just ignored our input. Maybe if they would play there game like every other mmo team does maybe just maybe we wouldn't have a sht game with mid 90's optimization.

I guess what do we know. We just play the game. We just noobs compared to the desk jockeys at zenimax!

I would honestly say the two factors that matter the most here is;

- Money. If it doesnt generate money, they wont care nearly as much as they should.
- They just aren't transparent enough with their work and what they're trying to do and what is actually happening.

I feel like concerning server maintenance, there is absolutely no dialogue with the community in terms how they are trying to improve the servers which is why most of us end up feeling like they just dont care or arent actually doing anything.

I actually want to know what hardware they are using because if they're using under powered servers for a game like ESO that requires a ton of processing power server side too deal with all the data calculations with a good amount of stability then there is a huge problem there especially if its a company that earns a ridiculous amount of money. Obviously it wont just be a hardware issue but what hardware they use would be very telling.

usually my Loading screens are around a minute long if laggy or just a few seconds if not.

My ms is completely stable and 0 packet loss decent upload and download.

ESO used to be unplayable for me about a year ago due to lag. I complained to support and they had me do a ping test and send them the results. Turned out packages were being dropped before it got to the ESO servers. It was my ISP (NETINS). Lucky for me NETINS was doing an upgrade on their end and it fixed the problem. However, about 3 weeks ago I started having rubberbanding and lag while playing. It's not as bad as before but it's annoying. This time I know it isn't my ISP. I wonder if there are a lot of new players and that's the cause?

I get frame freezes and high ping when I start damaging people. The more people I damage, the more lag/freezes I get. Is this something new? I've been away from ESO for awhile, and I don't remember it being this bad.

Edit: After further investigation, it was an out of date addon that was causing my lag problems. Removed it and replaced it with a new addon that does the same thing, and it was fixed. (FTC was causing my issues.)

the biggest thing on console was switching from the standard HDD to an SSD. that sped up the game 50%

Agree I have an Xbox x with an external ssd that plugs in via the USB port and the game runs pretty good. Occasional lag and lower FPS but pretty good overall.

Developer intent have nothing to do with the publisher demands, if they want cash grab as priority the fixes will never appear despite different opinions inside the company itself.

Not a single staff read this thread, therefore is useless (Mods don't count, since they have no power to change the game, the company, the policy or anything not related to the forum itself.)

yes, if they would dedicate one quarter (free dlc) to fixing the lags and major bugs, it would make the player base happier in the long term much more, as releasing a new content dlc every quarter with more and more new bugs!!

but seriously i'm wondering if AoE caps removal will fix this, since cant really be tested well on PTS because PTS stands for exploit finding sessions... somehow... and so never really gets stress tested anything but you can bet day one exploits will happen

PS4 EU Vivic Cyrodiil:

• General Lag
• Textures not loading
• Falling through the floor when spawning at a camp and ending up at the starting zone at the bank?
• Falling through the floor anyway
• Anything that makes your character jump to another character can force you into a loading screen.
• Loading Screeennnnsss
• Healing Circles, oil ect, anything that creates a circle on the ground does not show.
• "There was a problem and the game had to be shut down" error on PS4 is pretty common now..

Quite a few things I am experiencing right now. I would like to point out none of this happens outside of Cyrodiil...well except in Deshaan its a bit laggy there.
