The game's lore has always been a little off for the sake of MMO conventions, but now it's just plain for sale.
They aren't cowboy hats. They are cavalier hats like the Three Musketeers wear.

They're actually ultra rare ancient relics left over from before the nukes dropped in 10/23/2077.
Well, there are a few fan theories out there that say the Fallout universe and TES universe are connected.

Actually the true frontal lobotomy is not to purchase crown store items, get what you like and what you can afford. The true lobotomy is to purchase the chance of maybe getting an item by purchasing loads of crown crates :-)
I bought these hats with free crowns...and I LOVE THEM. I wear a fedora constantly when I'm out and about and at work, and these cowboy hats looks fabulous on my characters. I would of loved the option to buy one though as I actually prefer one over the others. But yes they are pricey, If I did not have those free crowns I would of not bought them.

Alpha channels of either hat or hair terxtures are mixed up. Whoever does texture work is clearly not doing it right - these hats, not fully dyeable outfits, texture bugs on witch robe (black wrists problem still exist), mixed color channels on nord outfits (like RGB channels on dye map overlap, hence gray parts if you choose different colors for all slots), etc, and often these are things not always catchable during preview. Do they even fix crown store items bugs? Like, ever? =/

A fedora, for real?

This is what I was thinking. The crown store items, most of which seem to be recolors/retextures seem like they are being worked on by an intern. I am starting to doubt ESO even has a full time dev team working on the game. I play a game that is being made by 4 people that have massive updates every few months with updates every month. I mean the work being performed by them far out weights what I see being done here, so that makes me seriously question how many work on ESO.

There is no such thing as free crowns. Unless you won them via a competition (which means I retract this statement), I can't fathom out where one would get 800 crowns for free.

HAHAHA you have to be kidding... Clockwork is an amazing expansion that just came out. The Haloween event was fun and full of great costumes, we got a nice free mount, then Orsinium event was great fun killing world bosses with cool rewards. Now this current event has brought me the bathing outfit that I love and some cool hats.
People are saying they want MORE of this style hat without the winter stuff on them in the game, ones enjoying the game.
NO game with a tiny team is putting out better content than this game this year, no AAA MMORPG game beat this game this year. Which games are you talking about?
I imagine two of my toons wearing this kind of hat, so I was considering buying them. They aren't cowboy hats. They are cavalier hats like the Three Musketeers wear. They curl up on one side or the other depending on whether you use a pike (right shoulder, brim curls up to clear the haft) or musket (fired from right side, right brim is the side down so you dip it to block the flash of powder).
