The developers like light and heavy attacks. They LOVE fully charged heavy attacks. For best dps weave light attacks. For recovery mode weave heavy attacks.
OK.
They also have a fast-paced combat game compared to WoW, FFXIV, etc., the change to more heavy attack weaving notwithstanding.
So... can weapon attacks feel more fun and interesting?
I actually like some of the animations for melee weapons, which is cool, but, you always feel like you are just playing around and should only weave those attacks but never use them outside of that.
Consider the options if weapon attacks did more.
You could choose to mostly use abilities and weave weapon attacks as appropriate, or, there could be times when an extended 3-4 hit weapon attack combo would be better or just as effective. More choice in gameplay. Different weapons could have their own special animation or effect for the combos. And I don't mean having some counter on the screen like a fighting game (x1... x2... x3!...x4!!! Megacombo!!!).
More like, light->light->fully charged heavy doing some real damage or maybe causing some status effect while also boost the hit on the heavy. Whereas heavy->light->fully charged heavy does an huge amount of damage with broad splash/stuns.
Anyway, would love this for my stamplar. *whack* *whack* *BOOOM*
