Skins For Apex Rewards? Deadass ZOS?

This is just getting out of hand now. I understand that a skin is merely a cosmetic, and therefore isn’t mandatory in any form or fashion. However, the greed is just becoming beyond ridiculous.

I admit that in the past I had supported crown crates, by going about purchasing them. Even though, I truly wasn’t a fan of them being apart of the game anyway. But, I wanted a particular mount. So, I took the gamble and managed to win 2 times. Storm Atronach and Dwemer crates. But, I refuse to indulge in this bs anymore. It’s ridiculous. Obnoxious even.

Tell me, ZOS... Are you all really so desperate for cash that you are now putting skins in the crates? Even though you’re backed by crazy rich investors, and also are caking so much to do million dollar giveaways and fly players to your HQ? Are times really that rough for you all? Or, is it something else at hand. Is it as I initially said in regards to you all’s greed? Because honestly, you’re looking worse than Blizzard right now. And Overwatch’s rewards are literally loot boxes. But, you are given a chance every week to earn 3 of them. Plus, you are given a loot box whenever you level up. As well as for completing other tasks. But this? This I can’t defend. This I can’t give a pass too. This is on par with EA, or perhaps even worse. The only difference being that it isn’t full blown P2W, and so far is only cosmetics. And I’m disgusted in you all at ZOS.

Let’s pause for a moment, and analyze something. It costs $39.99 USD for 5,500 crowns. M’kay? That’s enough for 1 bundle of 15 Crown Crates. Something which you have a VERY strong chance of being screwed over by, and in a sense wasting $40. Do you know what you can do with $40...? And we are just going to focus on a gaming perspective, as I don’t want to venture off into other things that you can spend $40 on. Bruh, you can buy Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix for $40. And do you know what that game includes...? 6 HD and completely remastered in 1080p / 60 fps. iconic games from a very popular and absolutely incredible game franchise. I kid you not. 6 full games for a fraction of the price of 1. Literally the entire KH series, with the exception of 2 games (2.8 which didn’t come out until afterward, and 3 which isn’t coming out until 2018). That’s bananas. Yet, it cost $40 for 15 crates that you have have a high chance in getting crapped on with. And we’re soaking them up still? C’mon y’all. I can’t be the only 1 peeping the obvious cash grabbing.

I’m disappointed, in you all ESO community. Once again, you’ve let me down. You let champ down, bruh. And I can’t rock with you for that. Skins in Crown Crates...? You’re bugging at this point. And that’s fact, ZOS. And fellow players, you all are bugging for indulging in the bs too. I’m not 1 for telling others how to spend their guap, but damn. When is the bs going to stop? When are you going to open your eyes, and peep game of the obvious f***ery going on? Hmm? Y’all wilding. $40 for a high chance of getting nada, or $40 for Witcher 3 complete edition, Nioh, KH HD 1.5+2.5 Remix, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, etc. C’mon now everyone. Get a grip, and stop playing into the nonsense. You know it’s bad when I don’t even want to lace ZOS’ pockets anymore, and I’ve been known as a person who has always spent above and beyond on ESO (Grand Topal Hideaway buyer, Dromathra Senche buyer when it was 2,500 crowns, Linchal Grand Manor buyer), etc.

@Voxicity While I do agree with you, it’s not even that. It is the premise behind it. It’s the fact that this is obviously going to lead into more and more things. You know? It’s the fact that this is a prologue in a sense of what is to come, and of ZOS pushing things further and further to their limits. All in hopes of seeing how much they can get away, before something or someone snaps. And an incident occurs. And I don’t want that, big bruh. I don’t want to go to IGN or Kotaku, and end-up reading about how ZOS’ actions on ESO has lead to this and that having transpired regarding someone’s financial meltdown. All because they couldn’t control their spending, and these gamble crates having been an enabler. I don’t want that, chief. N’ah.

I have a feeling that it's a small percentage buying really high amounts. Most players are like you. But then there's one guy asking to buy the ultra rare mounts, because he has 3200 fragments saved up. And others in that topic are commenting how they have 10 000 saved up (100 fragments aprox 120$ depending on your luck).

Capitalism, amirite? Ruining our favorite games. It can't just be about creating a good game that performs well and hoping it sells on those merits no, ZOS gotta make the team pump out these exploitative cash grabs left and right while the game's bugs get out of hand and and it's performance and balance suffers. They don't even hire enough people to run the game adequately but they keep making the limited staff work on this garbage!

Game could be much better if the company and investors weren't such greedy capitalists.

I’m going to be completely honest with you. I never once really went “out of pocket” for things on ESO. Whenever I bought something extraordinarily expensive, it was because I had tons of crowns saved up from buying them on sale. And even then, from not choosing to buy things I felt to be a waste from the Crown Store. Factor that in with the fact that I’m an ESO+ subscriber (thank the craft bag for that), and over time I can amass quite a large sum of crowns. Which I then would use for things like the houses I mentioned for example, or a single bundle of crates every here and there.

But, I can’t support ZOS anymore. Not after seeing that they put a skin in the crates. That’s too obnoxious for me. And I’m not feeling it at all. As is, they put both the skin and polymorph of VAS in the Hard Mode variant of it. And that in and of itself I felt to be a huge scumbag move. But now, I definitely can tell what type of time ZOS is on. And I want no parts to it. Yeah, they’ll get my cash in regards to ESO+. But outside of that, I’m not spending a single dime on them again. And that’s including when they are having their crown sales. I’m that disgusted by them as a company.

Yeah, I remember when people were complaining about that purple skin being even buyable. Looks like ZOS didn't learn anything. I seriously have a feeling that they are going to put new DLCs only in apex rewards. Shame.

If the drop rates weren't an utter embarrassment they would publish them.

But yeah, padding apex rewards is a good way to dilute your chances of getting what you want. I'm sure we'll see more of that in the future.

It would not surprise me at all if we begin to see proper p2w items being introduced to these in the future. Seems like the natural progression of these crates now considering they are on the tame end of loot box spectrum.

I dont buy any Clown crates now or crown exclusive motif books because doing so is simply encouraging them to happen.

Once they started having hidden items in the crates not purchasable with gems was when i personally stopped. I always would of bought 15 crates per season but this and last season i didnt.

No point supporting a shameful practice after all.

Ultimately, it's up to the individual whether they buy crates or not. Though I do understand the gambling side of it and that it may affect those with a gambling problem. I previewed the items in the crates before I decided if I wanted to try my hand at it or not. I for one, was not to impressed this season (though I would have liked the flame pixie to be a pet instead of a memento, not that it mattered anyway, since I never have pets on ), and honestly, I have so many mounts that I really don't want the mounts out of crates (waiting for my unicorn, yo!). I bought two items with existing gems I had (and those from the free crown crates), and I'm done for the season. Yes, a lot of businesses are at the money grabbing stage with this loot box situation, but in the end, it comes down to personal responsibility. That's just my opinion though.

@Ch4mpTW Hey hey hey. Now don't be unfair. In Overwatch you get three boxes for a total of 9 wins in arcade modes, but you still get boxes for leveling up. So you get 4 boxes from those 9 wins since you level up at least once because of it.

Also, I think it's weird were you draw the line. Why are skins so bad while mounts aren't?

I think the flame atro mounts are ugly just like all of the other atro mounts.

I was very happy to see there is absolutely nothing in those crates that I want

It's not "capitalism" it's greedy folk in tailored suits, and those do exist outside of capitalistic avenues. The folk who are never satisfied, always want more. Always at the expense of the gullible, and the wallet-loose.

I drew the line at skins instead of mounts, because skins in this game always meant a form of progression (to a degree). Granted of course that the Imperial City DLC’s launch included the Mind-Shriven skin in the Crown Store... But, it wasn’t neither expensive or elusive. Plus, it could be picked up within a bundle that included: A vanity pet, mount, etc. It wasn’t something that someone had a gamble for. PLUS! It tied into the DLC at hand lore-wise. Which was the whole Imperial City attack by Daedra, and all that jazz. Molag Bal and so on.

As for mounts, I always viewed that as a cash shop item. And that’s no matter what game I’m playing. Mounts always were the thing that was up for grabs at a cash shop, unless you either earned 1 from a quest reward or drop regarding RNG. You know? To me, a mount is relatively insignificant. Especially on ESO, where you can’t sell/trade mounts with other players. Any WoW players here remember the days of the Spectral Tiger? Lol. If so, you understand probably where I’m coming from in these regards.

But yeah. It’s a difference. Even though they are both in theory cosmetics, a skin holds way more significance than a mount. And to be honest with you, I was never a fan of even putting skins in the Crown Store from the beginning. I always had an issue with that, but always shrugged it off. Now that I see that ZOS has gone and put a skin inside of a gamble crate, it’s like, “Oh... So you’re going to switch it on us? You’re going to go, and be arrogant now. You want to be excessively cocky with your marketing now, eh?”

I just wish it followed the design of the Flame Atronachs in Skyrim and ESO with the open upper face, or even Oblivion's armor-plate look. It looks like they used Morrowind's... style?? which results in the weird rocky face.

Just get the bloodforged skin, it's nice and affordable.

P.S. wtb flame atronach pet even if you just reskin the pixie rig. I miss my Oblivion fire buddy and the memento only lasts a few seconds. :<

Honestly, I don't understand the whole "skins" thing in the first place. They're all ugly, and 99% of the armor in the game covers it up. If this were a bikini-armor game, they'd make more sense....

....but they'd still be ugly.

Thinking about it, I wish I could somehow enter the Metaverse like in Persona 5. I would dive right on in, and try and to get ZOS staff members to do away with Crown Crates... Only problem is, I would need the app on my phone. Plus a talking cat monster thingy to coach and guide me along this path. Lmao.

That's right. The cost of almost AN ENTIRE XBOX GAME, where the pricepoint is what covers the developers and publishers for the MILLIONS they sank into making a game, for two followers with simple pacman AI and one portion of the UI for their respective functions.

That should be CRIMINAL.
