Yay. Treasure maps.

If the treasure map system was removed (or drastically altered), would that free up resources for other in-game systems? More useful/interesting housing storage, maybe?

Totally can understand the performance issues around giving people more storage...but seriously, there were like 25+ treasure maps in my bank alone. If others are doing the same, that has to be a drain on resources?

They’d never release this, but I’d love to see the stats on the number of players that actually do treasure maps (and how many), compared to the number of maps in game.

I sell most part of my treasure maps, about 100g each. Almost all are sold in 1-2 days.
    It always surprises me.
    PC EU, @Enemoriana. Ru.
Houses: Erstwhile Sanctuary as actual Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, Hunter's Glade as werewolf tavern (downstairs), Strident Springs Demesne as adventurer's house.
Wishlist: Furnishing Pack: Haunted Housewares, atronach trader, attunable stations (have 21/80 sets collected), molten war torte and white gold war torte recipes.

Heck, maybe people are doing them then. Shows what i know. Guess i’ll sell them at least....

People i run with give them to each other when we trade good items as a joke. “Here, enjoy this map”. You know something is wrong there.

I always do maps - the only one I don't go to is Cyrodiil because the effort vs reward just isn't there.

Gold + set pieces + decon gear + misc other stuff? For a minute to dig up a map as I'm running around doing my surveys anyway? Yes please!

@Niobium just curious...are you on PC? I wonder if this is another add-on deficiency of console (I’m PS4). Sheesh, lore books are time consuming enough... but maybe just a L2P situation for me? Wouldn’t be the first time!

I do treasure maps. All of them that I come across. I used to sell them, but I found that I prefer to go get them.

There is no drain on resources to store treasure maps that would not also be there because you are simply storing something else.

Believe it or not, it is good that players have limited storage. It forces them to decide between a new item or an item they already have. It helps to prevent players from stockpiling tons of items that they are never going to use. That is a far larger resource drain than treasure maps could ever make up for.

I find exploring around collecting treasure maps mostly fun even if the rewards are irrelevent. I of course don't cheat and look them up online.

@pj4533 Yes I am and the map addon definitely helps while running around. That being said, there are only a handful of maps per zone and they are in set locations so once you know where Bankorai Treasure Map IV is, it will always be there.

I love the treasure maps. I have the CP fortune seeker & treasure hunter passives (gives double gold in treasure chests & locked boxes and improves quality of items) and do all my maps. Every treasure chest I open I get at least 116 gold and whatever else is in there like pictures, purple items.. in Cyrodiil, faction motifs.. all good stuff!

If I didn't have the treasure map add-on I wouldn't do them, so I understand why console players think they are worthless.

On pc with addon they are marked on map and yes this makes it far easier to collect, if you combine with surveys or collect on characters who quest in zone its a minute to do them
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I do not see treasure maps requiring a huge amount of the server resources making this basically a non issue.

Are surveys marked on the map on console? I've had the addon the whole time so I don't know what's marked as default or what's because of the addon.

I always do treasure maps and love doing them. Why?
It gets me to go to zones/areas I might have rushed through before and now can take time to explore.
I have the CP treasure hunter passives so I always get good loot, (Gold, Soul Gems, Purple Gear, etc).
Vvardenfell maps/chests drop the Bouyent Armiger motif pages which sell for 100-175k each. Worth the time to farm.

When everything changed with One Tamriel and zone/gear changes, I had 75+maps saved up. Day of 1T launch, my first chest gave up a BIS piece that I sold for 200k.

With each change/DLC, ZoS changes gear stats and things. New BiS gear is in demand. I then go and buy all the treasure maps for that zone that the gear drops in and make a ton of gold for a few weeks.
Yes, I'm one of those who buy's those maps for a 100-200g. Heck, just the gold I get from the chests, avg 116g each, pays for the maps.

Cyrodiil Maps... I save them up till I have 5-6, then go and do them. New level of challenge running around in a capped campaign searching for chest in enemy territory! Lol...

So again, one man's trash is another man's treasure...

    same here
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I wish treasure maps had a % chance to spawn a fun group encounter. Mostly it would be the same generic drops, but every so often it could offer something more. Maybe some world bosses that only pop up with treasure maps that get their own achievements, etc. Other things are possible, too. Give RNG a bright side.

No...nor have they ever been. They have dropped from regular chests, rather frequently, since the glass style was added.
